How exactly is he free?

The only way he's free is if he walks to the pre-season draft and I don't see that happening with this lad.....we'll be ponying up a 2nd round pick if we want him badly enough.....I'm hoping it's just his management starting these rumours.

If Richmond are keen to get rid of him like you mentioned above then we could probably get him for a 3rd round pick. But as you said is a risk with his shoulder injuries.

Would be decent midfield depth for a few years while we bring new mids in through the draft and give them a chance to develop.

I think we can get him as a DFA, or worst a 4th. Richmond are pretty decent with giving fringe blokes games elsewhere for not much. Butler, Stengle and Townsend recent examples
Graham isn’t a fringe player , he’s only missed a handful of games since debut. He’d be a required player , but as balmey said if he said he wanted to go home we’d look at what was on table, he ain’t Tyson Stengel it would take more than r4 . His age proven finals player , r2 pick would get it done for a player than would be in your side from r1

Honestly, one of the toughest things this offseason is the amount of changes we'll need to make.

Let's say we want four picks before our NGAs. That's 7 draft picks. Then maybe trade three players in? Then perhaps lists go to 40 from 44?

That's 14 guys to come off the list - almost a third of the players currently playing for us.

You'd think it's easy - but there's not that many off contract players, and some of them we either are recontracting, or we'd maybe want to. Or players that would be better to keep for a year instead of trading while contracted, because we would get a better return from free agent compo.

And that’s only on field

**** no.

He's out of your side a lot. He's missed five games this year, ten games last year and five games the year before that - sometimes dropped, sometimes because of shoulder issues he has.

Has gotten 16 or less disposals in every game this year, which is pretty poor for a mid.

We'd only want him for leadership and to have a strong body for a couple of years while we rebuild. There is ZERO chance we give you a 2nd round pick. Players like Graham never go for that much.

You missed the most important bit....stuffed shoulders, why do you think Neil Balme was so "matter of fact" when asked the other day about several other clubs rumoured to be showing interest (Essendon & Crows). Along the lines "We'd understand if he was looking elsewhere"...Surely there's alarm bells going off there and hardly fills you with confidence. Sounds like he already has one foot outside the door to me.

Great ...another slow midfielder that RICH are happy to let go

We had the chance to draft him in his draft year

Everyone did a few times - he went as pick 54.

I'm not sure Richmond are entirely happy to let him go, probably more the situation around contract and potential list shrinkage (as well as him being South Australian and a Crows supporter) has gotten journalists putting 2+2 together. While he isn't elite he does have traits that sides want in their side, hence why he was a Premiership player after debuting in round 22 of 2017 and would have played in 2019 if not for a buggered shoulder.

He'd be a good get but I can't see Richmond letting him go cheaply. The players who have gone cheaply are the likes of Stengle after 2 games total, Butler after 22 games over 2 seasons, Miles after 6 games over 2 seasons, Corey Ellis after 7 games total and Lloyd after 15 games in 2 seasons. These guys were no longer required players while Graham is still very much a required player. He played every game he was fit for in 2017 followed by 18, 16 and 7 this season.

It's always a weird situation trading these mid-tier players as value is hard to peg. He may go for a 3rd rounder with some picks swapped around or he may go for a second rounder. I just can't see him going for a 4th rounder and obviously he isn't worth a first rounder.

think he will end up at Adelaide but I don't think there will be a clear winner in the trade

He’s played a heck of a lot more than Townsend and butler did. I get a sense that recruiters won’t make the same foolish mistake of 12m ago when they considered that butler couldn’t crack it into a premiership side so wouldn’t do it for them either , saints were only clever ones. Do you think graham would have missed any games if playing for a side out of the 8 .

Butler has gone well, but the actual lesson is that pretty much every other player traded away by Richmond hasn't amounted to much.

They were traded away for a reason.

Mediocre players in good teams nearly always stay mediocre players in bad teams.

Well that’s prob subjective opinion , the following are all playing regular senior football

Butler
Ellis
Stengel
Conca
Townsend dropped this week
Lloyd

I would have thought haven’t amounted to much would be not getting a game , which the reality is bs

No way we should pay a 2nd for him. He's only playing about 70% of ganes iver the last 3 years, so either he has serious injury concerns or is fringe.

I'd rather keep a proven Matt Crouch

I don't really care if we get Graham or not, but fringe for Richmond probably equates to best-15 at AFC.

Little love for Jack Graham in these parts but has a level of composure rarely seen from our senior mids in 2020. If both Crouches go would be a good fit to lead a young midfield with support from one of either Hately/Valente.
