We didn’t get rid of them due to off field stuff though.

I don’t we’re as risk adverse as we were in the early days if the Finnis era (which had to happen as we were absolute toxic to sponsors).

Hanners isn’t a choir boy, Hilly has had his moments & we stuck by Jake when he was being proper naughty.

The biggest issue with DeGoey is the court case won’t be heard until after trade week. That is too big a risk to take IMO.

Absolutely... gun player and when I questioned why we’d be after a player under investigation, it’s nothing to do with the lad. He may well end up guilty or not guilty. I have no clue. But cannot entertain that trade if it’s a) sorted after trade period, and b) because of some of the shite that’s happened in the last 15 years.

Pies are desperate to trade him. They’ll take unders.

Obviously Treloar believes we’re slightly ahead of Richmond in the premiership window.

Treloar will be one of the last players the Magpies want to lose with a aging Pendlebury(32) and Sidebottom(30) and I would fully expect they wouldn't trade him.
They will do everything to keep Moore and De Goey however De Goey could well want a move if they don't offer him the price he wants knowing he took a low ball figure when he signed before and having a problem currently in the courts they could well let him go.

By the time they cut the list sizes down and we pick a couple players they going after and draft a few kids , it is going to be tight for spots.
They will endeavor to pick up a decent midfielder and a Caldwell type , then add on say 3 kids in the draft.
That will mean we will need to just about de-list 10 players from our current squad.

We currently have 45 on our list including 4 rookies , if they cut it to 40 (some are saying 38)and 2 rookies , we lose 3 guys however whoever we bring in someone has to go out.
We know Brown has retired , but it will be interesting to see how ruthless they will be.
Will they de-list Savage , Parker , Austin , Marsh , Joyce , Langlands , Hind , Mayo and Abbott to fit in the new players - at least 6 or more of these guys will be let go.
I fully expect Alabakis to be kept on the rookie list to finish his contract and all the new kids from last year will be kept - Bell etc.

You will see a couple good players being released from other teams due to the smaller squads.

I'd say it's the same reason the we're linked to all the players that are out of contract; it's a deliberate strategy to always say that you're interested - because it bumps up the price, shakes a few trees, and it's not a commitment or anything.

Whenever they say "the saints are are looking at getting such and such into Moorabbin" I take no notice until I see something more concrete - like the player in our jumper! Until that it's meaningless.
Same here

I have very little faith in the "salary cap"

I believe Heeney would fit perfectly into our team, a high forward rotating through the mid. All year our 22 was pretty much the same apart from that position. Kent,Hind,Lonie and Sinclair also I think Phillips have rotated in and out of the team trying to fill this spot. Each has stood up at times but no one has done enough to cement there spot.
Heeney is a fantastic contested mark has a good ratio of cont/no cont ball possessions and would probably generate about 20 goals a year and can do decent mins in the center. His main draw card for me is that he is a match winner he is usually the one that stands of for the swans when needed. We have talent but lack that something special. Look at the Wce, Melb and Brisbane games we needed to someone to step up in those last quarters and Steele can only do so much.
Each team in the finals has at least one 20 goal HF, Coll - Mihocek De Goey(30+) Wce Cripps (not as much this year) Geel Ablett Dogs- Wallis
Port- Gray Bris- Zorko Rayner and McCluggage Rich- Castagna Martin.
And if not Heeney then someone similar I think its our most important need this draft/trade period.

Still on the Constable band wagon, a year younger than Taranto that everyone wants for the inside bull.
Compared his stats (i know stats mean nothing) but gee for a lot less the price his disposal efficiency is pretty good & if he played for GWS we would probably be all over him.

Edit** Stats from Taranto’s B&F year. Also off line for rest of the day (at least until the game) so don’t give a rats .... about the arguments this may bring. 🥴

Yeah he looked not bad last year. Melbourne are a shambles so if have a look
He didn't even make the initial cut of Melbourne players to travel up to the hubs.
Melbourne are a shambles but if you are so far back on the list that you get left in Melbourne for 8 rounds somethings not right.
Its a pass for me.

You mean we should be targeting someone who is an awkward match up for opposition teams because of their size, marking capacity, speed, ability to do something freakish and their capacity to kick a goal.

I hear this bloke is out of contract at the end of the year. I reckon we can pick him up pretty cheaply
