Because they new the Crows would match, and so rather than waste everyone's time they got on with a trade. Geelong are very no-nonsense come trade time, unlike say Dodo.

Phil Walsh had been killed a few months before... Geelong only traded because it would have looked terrible to try to take Danger for free when Adelaide (the city and the club) were still in mourning.

In any other circumstances they would have tried to get him as a FA. Absolutely nothing to lose if they did that... they did the right thing in the circumstances.

I look at him and think - Atleast he can contribute around the contest and take a strong pack Mark.

he is a terrible ruckman, but the idea would be Ryder/Marshall will be primary Ruck and McKernan will sit forward and chop out.

in a very limited role. I am A-OK with this.
You've nailed his role perfectly. If that's all you want from him, he'll be fine.

Barrels or God Save [PLAYERCARD]Max King[/PLAYERCARD] - one of them really rate Brander.
Forget which one.
Best ask them. I get Fergus Watts vibes off him.
Brander has been held back due to WCE riches in the key position players , WCE would not let him go easy - having a forward line of Darling , Kennedy and Oscar Allen and the back line with Barrass , McGovern , Rotham and Williams and they will be getting one of the key position players in the draft from the west.
Brander is 1.95m (not yet 22) and talented and would be a very good pick up however with the retirement of Schofield they might not be wanting him to go.

Got to be wary of those highlights packages as just about every play he was a foot taller than the bloke playing against him

Normally I would too , did it more to say type we are looking for ...Utility.

Stephen Wells had him top 5 that’s a fair wrap they wanted him last year Eagles gave them picks .

Will we get him don’t know let’s see how it goes , been in good system & club.

God don't believe their propaganda. They traded because they were paying Dangerfield unders for his worth. Nothing to do with no nonsense, everything to do with practicalities.

Let’s be honest. If he was good - he would be on your list.

he should only play a minimal amount of games. As long as he gives a contest and marks the ball when it comes his way - so teams can’t double Max, then I think most Saints supporters would be happy.

If we bring him in.

You are correct

"Under the AFL's future trading rules clubs must use two first-round picks at the NAB AFL Draft over a rolling four-year period to ensure they aren't able to swap selections and trade themselves into long-term list strife."

Well based on that they look at quality in. And states that Dons have not used a pick since 2016.

So if they look at quality in, if the pick was say for BKing, then there would be no issue as he is both young and good. ie Is not simply trading away the future for now.

Yes limited games. So for example if we rest Paddy every 4 or 5th game, he plays to back up Marshall.

I’m totally against the idea of McKernan in every single sense of it and I hope he takes the lucrative local footy offers on the table instead of ours.

He’s not up to it, even as a brake glass in case of emergency type.

We’d be better served drafting someone like Joel Ottavi from Williamstown, who’s a FWD/Ruck a 24 years old.

I know we’re not asking McKernan to be a world beater, but I’m not sure he’s a spud beater either.
Strikes me as the type of player that wouldn’t even dominate local footy.
Big no from me.

Ideally. Obviously you can’t predict injuries.

but if we wanted to make the jump into the top 4. He would play limited amount of senior football for us in 2021.

If they cut list sizes to 38 it going to cause mayhem with a lot clubs , especial with the draft coming up - it might be best to do nothing until the AFL makes up there mind.
You might find we could get a few players we never had a chance in getting.
Clubs like Geelong will reconsider a lot of there trades , with Higgins , Selwood , Steven , Dangerfield , Clark , Constable , Narkle , Menigola , Duncan , Parfitt , Guthrie , Miers , Fogarty - you can quickly take 3 off this list, because some of them have no chance of getting a game.
There could be massive salary dumps as well the draft will have at least 50 new players coming into lists causing major shake ups.

You would rather draft a state league player who hasn’t played footy in 12 months over a bloke who has played decent footy over the last 3 seasons as a back up for an okay side?

you do realise he would be the Ryan Abbott replacement? Can’t be more stop gap then that.

Wow can see why SoS got the arse, seems like he knows 3/5th of FA.

Reckons Crouch was desperate to get to Geelong but when Cameron went there he decided on St.Kilda. Aren't they both FA? Don't they play different positions?
Didn't Brett Ratten meet Crouch a number of times? Wasn't it kept under wraps and even Adelaide didn't know he was going ro St.Kilda?

Sorry SoS you are a goose.

You won't get a much worse take on the Crouch situation than this from Jay Clark...

CROUCH DEAL

At this stage St Kilda is not prepared to pay Brad Crouch more than $7000,000 to trigger the No. 2 pick the Crows desperately want.

..

Even $7 million would be excessive !!!! ;) Let alone than more than.....

SOS was only in the job so long because he could not mess up the amnount of picks gws got.

Why is Peter Wright not being talked about , they guy can be used as a backup ruckman - played about every game in 2019 and couldn't get a game this year - surely he would be a better option than what Abbott was.
I figure if they dont think he can play alongside Ben King, then he probably wouldn't fit our forward line either.
