FB: Jeremy Howe ~ Jordan Roughead ~ Brayden Maynard

C: Josh Daicos ~ Scott Pendlebury ~ Steele Sidebottom
HF: Will Hoskin-Elliot ~ Brody Mihocek ~ Trey Ruscoe
FF: Jamie Elliot ~ Mason Cox ~ Jordan De Goey
R: Brodie Grundy ~ Taylor Adams ~ Brayden Sier

Defense - exceptional
Midfield - possibly average if Sier lifts
Forward - not even worth commenting on

We also have 0 depth, 0.

No point playing blokes like Mayne, Greenwood, Cox, WHE and Roughead the club is rebuilding

Howe Keane Maynard
Noble Moore Crisp
Daicos Adams Quaynor
Sidey Kelly Elliott
Ruscoe Mihocek C Brown
Grundy Pendles JDG
Sier TBrown

For the last two bench spots I would take the best performed kids out of Murphy, Bianco, Rantal, Reef, pick 14, pick 16. No point playing the other blokes

The clubs reason for clearing the depth was to make way for the youth so let’s see how they go

B: Maynard ~ Roughead ~ Howe

Do find it hard to believe a bloke like Reef who hasn’t played since he was 16 would play round 1

As most have said, depth looks an issue possibly opening up some recycled players to be picked up like those mentioned such as Matera or Parker. Another who might be worth a look is Ryley Stoddardt from Sydney. Didn't play many games and had some wraps on him. Has pace and couldnt break into Syd defence. Move back to Vic may help so mighr be worth a punt and has speed which is something we lack.

Also, JDG needs to play fwd 75% despite what he wants. Can pinch hit in mid but is our best goal square option. In all honesty, that was Stevos best spot and he didnt have an impact anywhere else which is why he may have become expendable.

Depth aside, if players such as the Browns and Sier and the return of Sidey fill Treloars departure we may not lose too much if we have a decent run with injury.

Another thing which will benefit our players is the longer qtrs. Guys like Grundy / Sidey run their opponents into the ground getting on top later in the qtrs / game so I feel that along, with hub life impacting some more than others, hopefully means next year may not be as bad as what we're thinking now. The unknown is how players will react to whats happened this week and how that impacts morale. We'll find that out early in the season.

The forward line is very bad but it’s not Jessie White, Alex Fasolo, Jarryd Blair bad

When did you start supporting the Pies? We have had worse than that I can assure you.
Sav Rocca aside, who can forget names like Ben Wilson, Lee Walker, Jason Taylor and Brent Tuckey, before Anthony and Taz came on board. At their feet were guys like Patterson, Jason Wild and Barnett. I'm sure there are others I've permanently erased from memory. Any wonder we didnt play finals for 8 years.

In respect to the current players, I actually think they're ok 1 on 1 and on paper, but its when we move the ball slowly that we look very ordinary. Geelong aside, we were 2 goals aside worse off offensively. I think we can make that up easily if De Goey plays a full year while our defense remains solid.

Try and put together a side with this dumpster list

B: Brayden Maynard - Jordan Roughead - Jeremy Howe
HB: Jack Crisp - Darcy Moore - Isaac Quaynor
C: Josh Daicos - Taylor Adams - Steele Sidebottom
HF: Jamie Elliott - Will Kelly - Will Hoskin-Elliott
F: Josh Thomas - Mason Cox - Brody Mihocek
R: Brodie Grundy - Scott Pendlebury - Jordan De Goey
I: John Noble - Brayden Sier - Levi Greenwood - Trey Ruscoe

E: Tyler Brown - Chris Mayne - Darcy Cameron - Jack Madgen

Depth: Callum Brown, Tom Langdon, Nathan Murphy, Rupert Wills, Jay Rantall, Trent Bianco, Max Lynch, Flynn Appleby, Anton Tohill, Mark Keane, Tom Wilson

It's the worst forward line in the competition - undebatable. Don't know how we're gonna kick 50 points a game let alone anything greater to win games. I seriously think this is a bottom four side at this stage. Our midfielders don't chip in with goals like they used to, so scoring will be incredibly dry every week. That forward line is worse than when we lined up with Broomhead, Blair, Cox, White and Fasolo.

As big of a concern is the depth. When we're faced with inevitable injury runs like every other year, we'll have crabs like Wills, Brown and Appleby getting games and seriously expecting them to tip us over the line in games.

How we've been left with this for a team is comical.

Do you want a razor blade?

I am pretty angry with how the trade period went but I think there may be some overreactions regarding how we'll go in 2021. Could be completely wrong but on paper that team still looks really strong; The back 6 OP listed is just about the best in the AFL and the midfield will remain mostly strong with a few weak points. The forward line does look poor and is a huge weak point but it was poor this year, not sure its gotten worse even if Stephenson is gone. Overall I just don't see the club going significantly backwards from a list quality point of view, admittedly I do not think we have gone forward and I fear it will be another season of finals with no ultimate successes, but predictions of bottom 4 are frankly ridiculous.

With a few draftees to come in and hopefully some improvement from the likes of Keane, T. Brown, Ruscoe etc I actually believe Treloar, Stepho and Phillips can be mostly covered, if not improved. IMO a bigger problem will be the atmosphere in the club rooms and the relationship between coach and players, the trade period showed Buckley and the club in a pretty poor light, will that impact the players? If it does, which wouldn't be surprising, and the players are mentally shot then we could have serious problems.

Howe Roughy Maynard
Quaynor Moore Crisp
Daicos Pendles Sidey
Kelly Mihocek WHE
Elliot Cameron Ruscoe
Grundy Adams JDG
T Brown Noble JT Sier
(Keane Cox Murphy Reef)

Callum B, Rantall, Bianco, Mayne
Extend Tohill as 2nd Cat B with Wilson(outside cap)
Madgen Greenwood( officially re-signed ? did we clear enough $)
Appleby & Lynch same question
If we continue to be brutal, tap Langdon on the shoulder & say it's over, it's already a PR disaster

C: Josh Daicos, Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom

HF: Jamie Elliott, Brody Mihocek, Will Hoskin-Elliott

F: Jordan De Goey, Mason Cox, Josh Thomas

FOLL: Brodie Grundy, Taylor Adams, Brayden Sier

I/C: John Noble, Levi Greenwood, Will Kelly, Chris Mayne

In: Nil

Out: Adam Treloar, Jaidyn Stephenson, Tom Phillips, Atu Bosenavulagi, Ben Reid

We say: That ‘Nil’ doesn’t look great, does it? The Magpies have had a bit of midfield depth for a few seasons now, so you can kind of understand them being willing to lose Treloar - if only it had been handled and presented better. Likewise Phillips had been pushed out of his wing spot by Josh Daicos. But that depth has gone now and if they have another run of injuries, they’ll be in strife - and remember, this is a team that only just snuck into the eight this past season. At this point we prefer Jordan De Goey as a forward, especially after they failed to recruit one in the trade period, so Brayden Sier starts in the midfield. Jack Madgen, Chris Mayne, Trey Ruscoe and the Brown boys are in the mix for this 22 as well, and they can get quite a bit younger than the side we’ve named. Expect that to happen if the kids have big pre-seasons or if the season starts poorly.

Going to have another go after forgetting Sidebottom and Howe during my immediate meltdown post trading Treloar, Stevo and Flip for some mothballs.

While our trading performances were horrendous when it came to Phillips, Treloar, Stephenson, I can't deny that strategically these moves look fine. Phillips is a highly flawed player, whereas the other 2 refuse to defend, and require other players to play around them and facilitate their natural game.

Answer me this - when was the last time a midfield group of Treloar, Pendlebury, Adams were premiership worthy? 2018? Truth is for close to 2 years this combination has not worked, and a big part of that is because Pendlebury is already on the softer side when it came to inside mids, add Treloar on top of that we just let opposition mids run wild.

Which is why I think Jack Crisp absolutely MUST go into the middle. Defensively we have plenty of depth, Crisp is a B/B+ player either as a defender or a midfielder, pretty obvious where we need him the most. Also Crisp is a highly contested player who is super accountable defensively, and will release Pendles/Adams/De Goey on the run.

Agree with this. Hawthorn traded out their aging superstars we traded out our young rising star winner? Collingwood has no clue what they are doing, the future plan is illogical
Look how good it's serving Hawthorn. North did a mass exodus of their elder players too - really pushed em into contention!4

Trading Pendlebury, and to a lesser extent Sidebottom, would be ridiculous

Trading one of Pendlebury Sidebottom right now wouldve made more sense than what just happened.
Treloar cops allot fo flak for being not being damaging enough but I’m not sure how those two escape that.

Defense - exceptional
Midfield - possibly average if Sier lifts
Forward - not even worth commenting on

We also have 0 depth, 0.

Change Moore from defence to fwd line and it starts looking a hell of a lot better and the defence has proven to run perfectly fine when he wasn't there out injured.

Sideass has natural fwd ability and can use his tank to push up to be an extra midfielder.
I'd move Pendles to a wing with Daicos on the other side, time to start transitioning him from a starting mid to a wing who rotates into the midfield when needed. Start using him outside the contest with his kicking ability in a team of poor kicks.
Move Maynard into the guts full time to replace Pendles.
Persist with Keane at CHB with Howe supporting.

Time to also start blooding Reef, Murphy, Rantall and Bianco.

Thomas and WHE should be no longer best 22 and on notice.
