That’s true. But it’s actually Pick 4.., thanks again VFL.. so I guess it would be a matter of our club seeing not much difference in the players and another club thinking that the next Liam Stocker is going to be available and willing to pay overs to get him. I guess if every club sees the quality of the draft exactly the same then no deals would ever get done.

Pick 2 in the live draft.

can't see us using 4 picks. Think it'll be the bare minimum for us.
Need to keep going hard at the draft and be ruthless. No point holding onto guys who are marginal.

Use the 4 and hope 2 are guns.
And our last 2 losses haven't been that bad taking into account quality of opponent. The idea that we somehow hobbled ourselves to lose to Brisbane at home and Essendon away by 10 goals is fantasy land stuff. Especially without our most productive forward for 6 of 8 quarters.
How do you get Essendon and Quality in the same phrase?
A 10 goal flogging to a side out the 8 who have lost to Carlton and Hawthorn is not acceptable unless tanking involved

Some of the guys we brought in won’t make it. We need to keep on hitting the draft hard until we get it right.

Given we already drafted Parnell, I could easily see us just using 3 picks at the national draft. Adding Matt compo pick into the mix and we try to trade up into the first round again.

We apparently have a pretty good salary cap situation. It would be well worth paying out some dead wood if it came to that. Our list lacks talent.

Quality over quantity might be the way to go. We've got enough worker bee types.

The bulk of the list clean out has already happened.

Below is what hawthorn did after their 2008 flag and what I hope we would have done in 2017
10 list changes at the draft

Will pick 37 be better than Frampton, Davis, Mackay, Himmelberg, O'Connor, Newchurch, Borlase, Rowe, Kelly, McAdam, Hinge, Strachan in 3 years time and which one of them is indispensable to avoid us finding out?

In 3 years time Sloane, Walker, Smith, Seedsman and Brown, Lynch, Talia are 32 +
I haven't include MCrouch being traded.

That's potential 20 list changes required over the next 3 years.

McAsey, Fogarty, Jones, Worrell, McHenry and Murphy are far from 100% to all have made it.

We need to be doing minimum 6 and ideally 8 a year to keep improving and not necessarily at the draft because not all the new guys will work out.

Use the high picks while we got them.
Pick 37 spent on a ruck? I'd like a future Ladhams or Darcy on the list.
Cheap pick on Dudley? Hope so

Our list isn't close to build truthfully.

Let me run this up the flag pole for your views.
Richmond will still be in premiership window next year but their time is limited. They might want another gun recruit to improve their chances.
We trade them our 1st this year (say pick 2) and in return we receive pick 7 and 16 and CCJ. We have the cap space to pull it off. We solve the forward line riddle we currently have with Fog, EH and Billy. AND we get two first rounders.
Thoughts?

I think we’d have a look at that, could mean we could get the Roberts/Draper combo and I agree CCJ would be very handy and would effectively mean EH and Billy are either traded or permanent depth.

If we get number 2 and NM have 1, surely we could give them something along with pick 2 if we think Horne is worth it?

Would be great to have the best SA KPF and Mid of their generation to lead us to our next era.
It will be a lot easier if the champs go ahead and there are some absolute standouts emerging to rival horne. But then if that happens and north end up not trading and taking horne, we then take the best performed alternative who has shown themselves to be the best outside of horne daicos and darcy

Ask yourself..why would richmond do it if they could get roberts with their current pick and draper or another player they want AND keep CCJ

Best SA kpf and mid of their generation?..

geez, and the lad hasnt even played a single game of AFL yet...

If we end up with pick 2 and NM end up with pick 1.. sure, we could give them something along with pick 2 to get pick 1 off them.. we can give them our 2022 pick 1..

Sounds incredibly dumb right?.. thats because it is and, because they can, thats exactly what NM would demand knowing they hold all the cards in any trade. Take it or leave it.

And this talk about Horne telling Vic clubs he doesnt want to leave SA... pffft.. even if he did North aint gonna care.

At this point.. The only way we get Horne is if we come last and have pick 1 or we give up a hell of a lot to trade up to pick 1... or, unlikely as it is, another kid emerges that knocks Horne out of his current favouritism for being pick 1.

Richmond have cap issues and CCJ is starved of opportunity. We use our cap to force CCJ to request a trade. Once he wants to leave, the tigers will try and get value from a want away player. God knows we have been on the receiving end of this scenario over the last decade.
Apply pressure off the ground just like we want to see on the ground. It's all about the performance ultimately. We have been somewhat passive in receiving deals for so long. It's time to be more proactive...
