Look again, we've drafted way more Vic Metro lads than Vic Country lads over the years.

Only Vic Metro lads that worry me most are the APS school boys and the biggest number of those are Sandringham Dragons or Oakleigh Charger players.

Hamish and Rendell both like them a Calder Cannon lad.
My unsubstantiated POV was we took more Vic Metro boys early in the Crows history, with damning results .....our most successful recruiting anecdotally was from country lads

I may do an analysis of successful Vic Metro draftees versus Country draftees by the Crows

Yep. Butters had an interrupted year this year so stagnated a bit, but I reckon he'll move into the midfield next year with Boak on the decline

Rozee had a down year, but he'll still continue developing into a dangerous player. Especially if he gets his goal-kicking knack from his first year back

Duursma is the one that shouldn't be regarded up with those two, IMO
Rozee had a bad groin along with his foot issues.

McCrystal? Could have my wires crossed but he’s our Melbourne-based guy currently, right?

Would love to know what “stronger position” means in this case and why..

The only reason I can see is that port are currently higher up the ladder..

But anyone with any sense can see port arent gonna be winning a premiership with their current list.. or coach.

If our financial terms are better ....and some journalist is hanging Dawson's choice of Port, simply because they're higher up the ladder at this time ....not sure you draw that conclusion

Seems, if our offer is better, and given his Crows background ....there's a lot of pointers of Dawson to the Crows ....unless there's something we're missing

Rozee will certainly tear a team apart, if his side is on top of contested ball .....personally my belief is Butters will be the more complete player

So far his possession rate is too low to be a star player ....but no doubt he's an impact player in the Fantasia mould

This is spot on. I reckon we tend to select hard at it players whereas the Power have often gone with the lighter built flashier types. All of the latter look like stars, but this only happens when their midfield gets on top. With Boak and to a lesser extent Gray getting another year older, I think they'll struggle next year, unless they land another ball winning type of mid. I think we have the opposite need - we need some outside class and flair to go with our extractors!

Pass..

Couldn't pay me enough money to do a full time recruiters job at my stage of life.

The amount of driving involved is the killer and weekends are just a write off, it's a job where the person must be fully committed.

They did, and he's going backwards.
Totally and chooses when to go for the ball, on the weekend he looked soft and without care. He never wanted the ball either, turning into Wingard part2.
the next year or 2 will decide what type of player he becomes, elite or elite talent never to reach potential

Phil Partington would be a good get if he was interested, recently retired from his Talent Manager role he's held at the Rebels for ages, top operator and highly respected within the NAB League community. I'd be pretty sure whoever lands the job will come from within the current NAB League development staff at one of the Vic based teams.

If he’s looking for a role he’d be a great get, someone with as much experience as he’s had (especially considering the talent the Rebels have produced) is always welcome

Ah well. Having watched your posts pretty carefully, inc your pre-draft calls, I think you’ve got a pretty good eye for talent. At the very least, not a big gap between your judgements and the collective judgements of AFL recruiters.

Powaa aren't in a better position so if true he is confused. I would say he is squeezing us for more money or he's made his mind made up that he's going to pear and he's trying to squeeze more out of them.

A lot AFL club recruiters came through junior football development pathways if you take the time to check their backgrounds, either coaching or Talent Management, the greater bulk through the TAC Cup/NAB League pathway.

Hamish Ogilvie via the Tassie Mariners/TAC Cup

One of Adelaide and Powa's best ever recruiters Phil Bunn via the Murray Bushrangers/TAC Cup.

I just made some inquiries, I think you'll find the job is probably replacing Scotty Degebriele who I understand was let go late last year probably due to the Covid situation and the restructure the club was going through.

The power made out like bandits in that draft while we sat on our hands.
Yes they made some very very good additions to their list. But they gave up a lot, including future draft picks.

Did they overpay? Different question, that we probably don't know the answer to, today.

I would take Rozee at the crows. He is a Charlie Cameron type. Never going to dominate the hard ball stuff but capable of flashes of brilliance. He is the icing and not the cake. Butters and Durrsma will get the hell out of pear over the next 12-18 months imo.

To be a Charlie Cameron type you need to be an absolute monster on the defensive side of things. Firmly deserves to be considered a part of the Brisbane cake.

Rozee is closer to Fantasia than Cameron, but even that's a tad harsh. Port will be hoping he can be their next Gray.

Rozee is an absolute jet. Would take him in a heartbeat, but he’s not going anywhere unless Port decide to hit the self destruct button.

The power made out like bandits in that draft while we sat on our hands. We need to lift our game at the trade and draft table, or the 2018 draft looks as defining both SA clubs for the next 5-10 years. It may do anyway.
Your assessment of "bandit" to move to pick 5 was they underpaid which they didn't.

It'll be the 2020 draft that defines Adelaide next decade, not 2018. Holding pick 1 does that to a club, especially when you end up with a talent like Thilthorpe.

The 2018 draft is slowly trending in the right direction for us. Butts looks a hell of a player, Sholl likewise, Jones and McHenry are also trending upwards. It's only Hamill who has stalled, but injuries will do that. 2019 is also aging pretty well with Schoenberg, Keays and Gollant, though it probably needs a McAsey/Worrell to make it to really slam it home.
