Watching live at the ground tonight JHF is elite - which was obvious prior but holy heck he is super impressive - Danger vibes - also Roberts at the same age super damaging.

Sampson has some highlights - not sure why he missed AFL kept South in the game in the first half.

Agree. Roberts totally overshadowed tonight but he did have a good game and did some nice things. Will be a solid AFL player imo..horne francis will be next level

“Draft picks” are no longer used for rookie list upgrades, and haven’t been for several years now

On that note, players are allowed to spend a 4th year on the rookie list in 2022, so Butts and Strachan won’t need to be upgraded at all until 2023.

CLUBS are set to retain the same list sizes for 2022 while rookies in their third season will be allowed to spend a fourth 'replacement year' on the list after the AFL passed a rule change ahead of the off-season.
Under AFL rules players had not been allowed to spend more than three straight years on the rookie list. However, clubs had been lobbying the League to give extra time to rookies who had been disrupted in their development by the past two AFL seasons by COVID-19.
It saw the AFL confirm to clubs on Wednesday that any player in their third season as a Category A or B rookie will be eligible to spend another season as a rookie in 2022 as a 'replacement' year.

Also, there is no way Sydney are accepting Gold Coast’s 2022 2nd for Dawson by itself. We would need to include Pick 23 with either our or GC’s second Rounder there, with a Sydney third coming back. The whole argument that Dawson is uncontracted and therefore we can offer virtually nothing is stupid. Was Lever contracted? Was Tim Kelly contracted? Look at the trade hauls there - both contracts were slightly more lucrative that Dawson’s, but the difference isn’t huge. We’re paying Dawson 3.25 million over 5 years, he’s not a free agent, so a future (or current) second rounder is quite simply not getting the trade done. I’d be perfectly happy to trade pick 23 and our 2022 second rounder to get Dawson and a steak knives Swans 2022 pick personally. Will prove to be daylight robbery if Dawson continues on his current trajectory.

Also, there is no way JHF is getting past North. None. It’s comical to even suggest it and everybody in the entire football world knows this. Callaghan etc are in a whole tier below.

Exactly ....North taking Will Phillips shocked the footy world .....Logan McDonald was the obvious selection for North who are still saying they need a KPF this year

North said they wanted to build the midfield first ......so they Drafted for need NOT talent

It's why I'm hopeful still of Callaghan falling to us

People were incredulous when they picked Phillips last year too. Not sure why people think it's impossible they take that Callaghan lad instead, who could well be the better player, given how few of you have actually seen him play. I sure haven't.

It's interesting .....North Take Phillips last year, when theu should have taken a tall in a talls Draft .....this year another quality mid is at their pick & they will take JFH no doubt

People were incredulous when they picked Phillips last year too. Not sure why people think it's impossible they take that Callaghan lad instead, who could well be the better player, given how few of you have actually seen him play. I sure haven't.

But id argue that there was a clear top 5 last year and they selected inside that one of those in that top 5 rated. This year its daicos, horne francis and now darcy as a so called clear top 3. Blind freddy can see how good horne francis is and if there was any doubt dont you think a performance like last night might have sealed the eeal?

I don't recall there being a clear top 5 last year (after JUH), I recall there being a clear top 4 with Thilthorpe, DGB, McDonald, and Hollands - Phillips was in the next bunch and was often listed as being taken between 5 and 10.

It's also clear that there is no clearness this year thanks to none of the Vic kids being able to play in the championships.

He was highly thought of, but not as highly as the others, if I recall because he was seen as a vanilla accumulator type midfielder.

Yes good skills at junior level, but can't compete at AFL level for 4 years min ......Bulldogs got stuck with another father/son a number of years ago that never put on weight .....Cordy I think it was

Phillips will be a good player. Yeah I agree i could see North taking Callaghan and Horne slipping to Gws. I'm sure North would love Horne but not for only 3 or 4 years before he comes back to Adelaide. Horne going to Gws would be a good result for us (if we can't get him)as he would be easier to get back home.
