I'm liking how screwed Collingwood are.
Checking out Lore's current picks and points table up the top, they currently have 1609 points.
If Nick Daicos is bid at pick 1, they need 2400 points (that's including 20% discount)
800 point deficit - meaning next year's draft their first round pick get's downgraded.
Not sure if gets rounded up or down after downgrading? But would mean:
if they have pick #1 --> #3
#2 -->#6
#3 --> #9
#4 --> #12 and so on.
Assuming you're happy to take the risk they won't match and happy to draft Daicos, why wouldn't another team bid at #1? Gives a good chance of sliding up a pick next year as well.

And Collingwood have sh*t picks to try and trade for points.
Their 42 & 48 combine to be worth 697 points.
To improve that value they would need to trade these for at least pick 27. And noone will trade a pick higher than 27 for those.
To increase points, you need to start with high picks and trade for multiple lowers. Just doesn't work the other way.
And their first pick is #37, which just isn't high or exciting enough to get much lower pick combos offered. Maybe Brisbane or Gold Coast would offer 3 picks in the 50s or later for it.

Bulldogs in a much better position with pick #18. They could slightly downgrade it several times, each time getting extra points. If they pay it smart they could probably double its value in points.
No way in hell Bulldogs even get close to doubling their points value. My daughter used to be mates at primary school with a girl who's dad's a Carlton recruiter he must've seen Draft day 100 times would always fill me in on stories and gossip. Every single recruiter thinks they're Sonny Weaver they're all fully aware of what the Bulldogs need (points/Darcies son) and what they don't need (to retain pick #19). The only team dumb enough to bite would be Gold Coast who in 2019 traded their next year's first round (ended up being pick 5) for Geelong's pick 27. How that suspect trade didn't come under more scrutiny from media I'll never know but typical AFL just like giving Gold Coast pick 3 as compensation for a washed up Ablett jr.

Van Rooyen and Amiss both kicked 6 on the weekend and FWIW are both in Twomeys draft team of the year.

I think we should be using one of our firsts to take whichever is available depending on their range. KPFs take a while so getting one now sets us up nicely for when Riewoldt retires if he goes another year or two.

100% this.

We need one of the WA KPF (Amiss, Van Rooyen, Williams), a KPD in case Biggy and/or Miller don't come on, and the best mids we can get. With four picks inside 30 I can't see us ****ing this draft up.

Guess it depends if CCJ hangs around. That being said, hasn’t Van Rooyen being playing a bit of defence also? Could be a great swing man

What type of KPFs are they? Are they similar to Jack with lateral movement and skill? Or are they crash and bash types like we already have with Lynch and CCJ?

I'm certainly a lot more confident in us making the right decisions than I once was. That 2004 draft still gives me nightmares.

They are around the 194-195ish mark I believe, so not your big lumbering forwards like Lynch and CCJ, a little more mobile (but they aren't Buddy Franklin or Nic Cox mobile). By all reports, Amiss does not miss set shots, bloke has kicked 47.11 in 11 games at Colts level for east Perth

The only thing I'd add as well, is if there's a good small forward that can kick goals. MRJ + another small forward would be great.

Something like
Best Mid
Best KPF (Amiss or Van Rooyen)
Best Mid
Best Small forward

I'd be pretty happy with that as our first 4 picks

Cumbo will be that player. Not a midget but the bloke has the Nate Browns about him I reckon.

I need to watch a bit more of him but from what I've seen he seems one of those small forwards who is good overhead, but not so much a crumbing player and he might lack a bit of toe. Similar to like a Jamie Elliot (although probably not that good overhead).

What he does seem to have though is that knack of finding the goals

I was reading somewhere that the WA key forwards are kicking huge bags in WAFL colts because there aren't any decent key defenders playing at that level, anyone have more knowledge on this?

Will this season have the under 18 champs? That's always been the one where names are made and the draft order can really see sliders and bolters.

Agree he's not a traditional small forward - he's kicked almost all of his goals so far as an undersized full forward (similar to a nippier Dustin Martin).

He doesn't lack toe though - very explosive.

It got delayed until the end of the season. Don't know if it is still on. I suspect no one knows as yet. But the last plan I heard is a carnival thing sometime later.

From what i have read and have not seen either of them
Vanrooyen - Oscar Allen (type)

Jacob van Rooyen

After a foray to defence while pressing his claims in the state squad, van Rooyen looked back to his ominous best up forward on Saturday. The bullocking key position prospect was an imposing force in the early stages, launching himself into marking contests and taking opponents with him. His strength drew panic from defenders in one-on-one situations, where van Rooyen would protect the drop zone and take marks despite being fouled from every angle. At ground level, he made things happen with punishing tackles and fend-offs, bullying the undermanned opposition at times. After attending a single centre bounce and working well up the ground, van Rooyen was stationed deeper to cap a fine game which yielded 22 disposals, nine marks, and six goals. He looks far too developed to be playing Colts footy, at least when he shows this sort of form and confidence.

Jack Williams - Tom Hawkins

Williams is a versatile tall prospect who thrives aerially and consistently kicks goals up forward, while also rotating through the ruck or even to defence.

One of the bolting key position players in this year’s draft pool, Williams has been in sensational form at WAFL Colts level. The 195cm East Fremantle talent has shown his best form as a forward in 2021, booting 24 goals in nine WAFL Colts games to this point and showcasing his exceptional aerial ability. While he has been swung forward this season, Williams can also pinch-hit in the ruck and is accustomed to defensive roles too. His clear versatility and upside saw him selected in this year’s AFL Academy intake

Gibcus , Goater ,Vanrooyen , Long , Bazzo these are the guys im hoping for Gibcus would be no chance to fall to pick #11/12

This may sound bad but im kind of hoping the Dockers finish above Richmond now and we get 1st crack at the KPP in our 1st and 2nd round picks

Williams sounds the more rounded tall , he plays multiple roles. Also have read he’s one of the youngest players in the draft. Listed at 195 now he could still have some more growth.
The type that could end up st either end of the ground.

High hopes for him after what he’s shown in the 2s after a serious knee injury.

I reckon he’s still got plenty of upside. Work on his fitness and conditioning this preseason and could be a very handy addition next year as a medium/ small forward.

Jamie Elliot is a pretty good comparison. He has that bit of explosiveness on the ground and in the air

Our top pick will probably be 9, pushed back to 11 with the F/S picks. Just looking at the teams above there doesn't seem to be too much of an opportunity to push that pick higher

I remember when the draft show used to be on they did some research showing taking a highly rated inside mid in the top 10 was almost foolproof in terms of getting at least a very good player.

That Schlensong fella could be a good pickup with one of our later picks. I dont buy that he's he's a massive bolter. He was playing good footy before the mid season draft and was passed up by all clubs. I know he's gone forward since then and performed well there but he was talked up as the best key defender outside of the afl before the MSD and still got overlooked by Freo who were missing most of their talls.

He is younger and probably still has a bit more growth being a December 2003 baby
the question mark on him has been his agility and athleticism i believe.

Jacob Van Rooyen is the player im most hoping for
195cm 90kgs already and good athleticism and has that ability to leap over packs April 2003 baby so should get to 196/197cm
which is the perfect height for a FF/CHF

Why not take both if we can trade up to get the doggies pick
