Personally, I categorise Daicos & Darcy as picks 1A & 1B, then go with Horne as pick #1, Callahan pick #2, etc and keep thinking of our pick as #7 or #8 and see who is likely to be there as the 7th or 8th genuinely available non-academy/fs player.
Basically I consider those players as pre-selections rather than being part of the draft.

Things will become a lot clearer once the National U19 Championships have been completed.

How do you think the Championships can go ahead? Are they going too put the kids in quarantine? Playing against interstate teams seems unlikely.

Thats actually not a bad thing where our 2nd rounder is now better than St Kilda's
They have Billings & Dunstan that could leave and if the compo is a 2nd rounder it works better this way for us

Yeah it’s hard to see it happening right at the moment the way NSW and Vic are heading with Covid. Exemptions have been made for the AFL teams but not sure if State Governments would do the same for an u19 carnival.

WA and SA could play that’d give recruiters a look at a fair chunk of the elite talent. But then how do you compare Vic and NSW kids??
I’ll be surprised if it goes ahead

I like you theory but most of the draft experts don’t seem to rate the key position players in this draft. We may have to be more patient, the first pick at least has to be best talent available.

Most have Gibcus going top 10 and some even top 5
But the boys at Richmond have done well in the last 5/6 years so hopefully they are all over this which im sure they are

Dated the 13 th so before all of Victoria went into lockdown hard too see how they can go ahead at the end of September. Not sure how kids from interstate and still at school can be expected to isolate and quarantine afterwards .

I realize and accept they will have to be included in the mock drafts and rankings , My comment was more direct to people who say " But our pick will go down 2 spots and are infact devaluing the pick"

Similar to freo supporters who are saying but carltons pick 5/6 will be 78 so thats not good enough etc
Basically you are getting the 5th / 6th best player available and thats the way it should be valued as these payers even if you have #1 wont be available to you.

That's how I look at it. Realistically of the active picks it's 7, but we'll get effectively the 9th best player eligible player from the draft. Just the same as if you had the number 1 pick but there were 5 academy/fs guys ranked higher you couldn't really say you're getting the best player so it's worth less than a pick 1 would normally be

Yes the best one is Finn Callaghan, a well built winger who will probably go before our first pick. He's had a great year and shot up the draft board to potentially be top 5. Two others around our pick are Mathew Roberts from SA, a Matty Knights look alike and the other is Josh Ward.

Edit: also forgot to mention Josh Sinn. Another one for you to chase up.
