I think some here have unrealistic expectations of the players skills, indeed even the very best players miss targets, for example Petracca (widely considered a great kick) has a much lower disposal efficiency ratings than Patrick Cripps and Ed Curnow!!!
I think the lack of pressure our side, especially the midfield puts on the opposition also highlights it more.

I'm a bit unclear atm - this is the best summary https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/thre...list-and-contract-status.368412/post-72208000

2021 List consists of:-

34 Senior players
4 Category A Rookies
1 SSP Rookie
2 MSD Rookies
0 Category A International Rookie
1 Category B International Rookie
0 Category B Rookies

Official Carlton Delistings & Retirements 2021
Eddie Betts (ret)
Levi Casboult (del)
Marc Murphy (ret)

For the National Draft - we need 3 spots right?
Which is already catered for by those 3 above.

So how many more do we need to clear for trading and rookie list?

We currently have 34 senior players, and must end up with between 36 and 38. i.e. Need to add at least 2.
We have a total of 7 players that will now fall under Cat A Rookies. Must reduce that by at least 1.
Between these two lists we must end up with a maximum of 42 players (currently have 41).

We have 1 Cat B Rookie (Owies) who can stay on that list. So keeping Owies is essentially a freebie. We can add one more to the Cat B list.

We must use 3 picks at the national draft or by elevating rookies.

So let's say for instance that we were perfectly happy with all 41 players we currently have. We could elevate one rookie to the senior list, and use pick 6 to add a draftee. Then we'd have 36 senior and 6 rookies meeting the maximum 42 on the list. However, that wouldn't satisfy the "3 picks" rule. So at the very least, we need to remove one more player (from either list), and replace that player with a draftee/rookie.

Who stay? Who remains? If you could only pick 5 of them, who would they be?

2021
1.
Jack Silvagni
4. Lochie O'Brien
5. Sam Petrevski-Seton
7. Matthew Kennedy (placed on Rookie List)
32. Jack Newnes
33. Sam Ramsay
36. Josh Honey (2nd yr rookie)
39. Oscar McDonald (SSP Rookie)
40. Michael Gibbons (Promoted to Snr list)
44. Matthew Owies (Cat B International Rookie) - (to be retained as a Cat B Rookie)
46. Matthew Cottrell (2nd yr rookie)

My number 1 is number 1, with a strong like for Kennedy and Honey, and an openness to keep one and trade one of LoB or SPS, and an openness to keep Owies. After that, cases can be made either way...

Reckon this list is missing:
26. Luke Parks
37. Jordan Boyd
43. Will Setterfield

Put it simply, if we didn't do any trading...

We can go to the draft with the current list - right?
As the retirement of MM & Eddie, plus the delisting of Levi was sufficient

No. The "3 picks" rule means you must add 3 players on draft day, either by using draft picks, or by elevating rookies.

Their contracts end in 2022

Definitely not the case for Boyd - he was given a 6-month contract only, unlike Mirkov, who got an 18-month contract.
Can't find a reference for Setterfield.
Parks was added last year as a rookie - only guarantees one year, right?

But, that's what I'm saying - go with the current list into the National Draft

As those movements already have created the 3 spaces in our list

Boyd - pretty clear this one
Parks - doesn't say explicitly, but implies one year only
Setterfield - can't find a carlton.com.au reference. But surely he wasn't given a 4 year contract when he came over?

Doesn't cater for the two players we added via the MSD. We had one free spot, but the other MSD pick was for Marchy on the long-term injury list.

If we get Cerra, Hewett, and a backup KPD either as FA or trade, and wish to take 2 players in the draft...
Are there any rookies that might go on primary list (Kennedy?)
How many still have to come off our list?

Adding 6 players to senior list (including Kennedy) takes it to 40.
Removing Kennedy from Rookie list takes it to 6. Total list size 46.

Must remove 2 players from Senior list to reduce it to the maximum 38.
Then remove 2 more players from either Senior or Rookie list to bring combined list to the maximum 42.

Only site I trust is the Carlton website :) Footywire also has Setterfield out of contract this year, but not sure how trustworthy that is as a source either.

You can trust whatever site you like but I keep the player contracts status thread up to date.

As for Footywire, it is not accurate.

I agree with that however it would be a shame, one week he's getting 30+ possessions in the midfield the next few weeks we are playing him in defence.
Forgive me if I am not allowed to post in this thread. I thought Ramsay was a solid midfielder in his junior days. Surprised they are playing him all over the shop for your reserves.

But it was like Cahill for us.. a gun forward, but then we are playing off him the back flank in a completely foreign role.

I agree with you 100%, we are not good at playing blokes where they play best.

Would WCE bite on MCGovern if we added Carroll to the deal and took Brander back. Maybe pay a small part of the contract. Gets us more cap space for Cerra and Walsh monies and gets in a young utility. Carroll may battle for a spot for a few years here and gets to go home as was touted a while back.
No to trading Carroll. How many Wingman do we have on our list with good skills and can find there own ball? Two Walsh and Carroll, all our other Wingman either can find it or can't us it. Plus we have been playing Walsh as an inside mid this year.
The 2nd reason why it won't happen is WC have no room in there salary cap.
