I want to see Kennedy play every game for the rest of the year. He is exactly what we are missing a big bodied tackling clearance machine. He is one of those players who gets dropped after each bad game.
l don't see you can have Cripps & Kennedy in the same midfield you cannot have more than one slow mid fielder, you need those quicker players around Cripps, don't see Kennedy part of our mid field, he has been in the system for significant period now without cementing a role.

Dow wouldn't get us Coleman Jones. And SPS is much better than a token add on. He just needs to play midfield full time.

I just don't think we need to bring in big name players or b graders on big money this off season.

I think we were all very happy with the direction our club was going and the talent we had on the list 2 years ago. We need to fix the problem and entrust what we saw with our kids moving forward.

Names like Cerra on approx $750k a year won't fix the problem
Agree , the best changes we could make are not personnel changes .
But changing the game plan to be more balanced .
Selection integrity making all players accountable for their performances not just younger players .
And somehow getting our players to play with a harder edge .

Yes would cerra really be a big upgrade on SPS- if we take home at 750 it would be crazy -- we have already paid for a maybe a grade mid in Williams now to pay for a potential A grade mid is crazy ..

To date he's been the horse that wins first up after a spell and then gets worse with every run afterwards. Hopefully he can hold last weeks form for the rest of the year.

Watching the VFL game today and LOB isn’t even VFL quality let alone AFL
Yeah watching the ressies game now ...
I can’t see any desperation in him. Almost like he is happy to play ressies for the rest of his footy career.

Needs to wake up as I think skill wise he is good.

Seeing it the same, he doesn’t look like a guy playing to save his career or playing like he wants to take the next step, even when the ball is close, he’s not interested.

l believe Cerra is going to be a consistent performer for any team, at Carlton he would be outstanding acquisition as we lack quality ball users.
Anyone that gets the ball 24-30 times a game and uses it well is invaluable, personally think he will go another Melb club unfortunately.
We get a close look at him next week..

Disagree. Both did well in the 1st half playing majority midfield. Kennedy in particularly. Problem was Ed was thrown in there exclusively in the 2nd half and we all saw how that went. Ed has been a shadow of himself this year and been beaten by every opponent.

I'm a long time reader but a relatively new poster so some of my views may be going over old ground for the old timers, but my overwhelming view on Carlton's list is that there are way too many similar type players, specifically midfielders who we also try to play at half forward.

Whilst every player is different in their own right there is literally no way of fitting in even half of Cunningham, Philp, Dow, Ramsay, Carroll, Fisher, Martin, Kennedy, Gibbons, Murphy, Durdin, Fogarty & SPS into one team. Couple with the pure midfielder (Cripps, Walsh, Setterfield and Curnow) and the likes of Kemp, Williams and Stocker who will also likely play there at stages, and over half the list.

I understand midfielder depth is required but it seems we have gone a bit overboard, and as a result we seem short in the following areas:
- Wingmen: Newnes, Cottrell and OBrien aren't AFL standard although I haven't given up on LOB just yet...hence the move to get Doc on the wing is the right one and so is the interest in Cerra (albeit at the right price).
- Lockdown small defender: Only really Plowman as I wouldn't class Williams, Saad, Newman or Doc as lockdown, so Boyd's selection at the mid season draft was a good move
- Ruckmen: Pittonet,TDK and now Mirkov
- Ruck/forward/back type: Caboult and maybe SOS now (in hindsight we should have targeted Allir Allir?)
- Key Position Players: obviously injuries have hurt us with Curnow, McGovern & McDonald (Marchbank is not a KPP), however if you consider

McDonald was taken via SSP we were still grossly undermanned at the start of the season and the injuries have left us badly exposed.
I really hope Austin addresses these deficiencies in the coming draft/trade period rather than chasing a big fish.

They don't have to be established stars as we have very capable injured personnel returning, rather some emerging and/or underutilised talent at other clubs who can't get game at strong clubs (eg. Narkle, Melican, Ladham, Weiderman, Jackon Nelson) or emerging talent that hasn't yet settled (Fisher McAsey, Bailey Williams - WC, Jake Riccardi, Lachie Sholl)....just no more 17 year old Vic Metro midfielders!!!

I agree we do need quality or elite non midfield players. For example I see fisher as a player who can be an elite half forward. Martin once fit can be an elite half forward. Both can pinch hit in the midfield but there primary positions would be forward.

Problem is after Cripps and Walsh, we are still waiting for others to stand up and be quality core dependable midfielders we can trust week in week out. A lot of the players you named as not being able to fit in are unproven as midfielders. Setterfield, Sps and Dow are the most likely at the moment, but still struggling.

I think Carlton wants another midfielder they really believe in. The question is do we trust what we have to develop into that reliable midfield group or do we chase another player?

When you play VFL for so long you become a VFL player imo. Need to give him a run and just let him play. Was in the team before Newnes came and I know who I'd rather.

Didn't Ed keep Laird to 8 second half possessions when put on him at half time?
Laird had 20+ to half time.
Think Ed did more than OK

Skills wise very good. He has been performing better apart from his last 2 ressie games.

Strange how he’s being managed. For his first 2 years he was a seniors’ regular and was doing pretty well for a young player. Not setting the world on fire, but was developing for a young player.

Since then end of 2019, Teague has played him twice. Got dropped after each game. Now, I don’t know whether he’ll make it or not, but sure seems Teaguey isn’t exactly moving heaven and earth to do everything possible to see if he’ll make it. He’s still only 21. Yet, there’s a number of others who consistently get senior games but don’t set the world on fire.

LOB isn’t the only one who you’d hope would be given more of a crack.

The thing is we were nearly 5 goals up at half time despite Laird having 25 disposals. Sometimes you allow that player to keep going knowing the setup you have is working for you.
