Ahh, yes .. that 20 year thing where we actually had to start abiding by the rules, where everything except how much money you could offer a player became relevant to team success ... Seems a very suitable starting point to me.

Saints, Dockers??

Absolutely we were the lat to embrace the draft, but the last 5 or so years?

If we are judging culture by flags, which is so flawed, Demons, Saints, Dockers must have poor culture too, yeah?

Don't equate Carlton's serial multi decade 5 spoon failures & 8 years without finals to
North Melb - 2 prelims in 6 years and a rebuild showing signs of life
Hawthorns- triple premierships and history of bottoming out and repeat building of dynasties.
Stkilda- even that basket case played in 3 grandfinals 11 years ago and repositioned itself as a finals participant last year.

Culture is not a summary term it is evidenced by the ability to rebound, regroup and maintain winning standards. These teams do that, while the Carlton Football Club is anchored in a state, up until now, of permanent failure

So shift the posts again, what do yo want to base it on, flags or finals?

You really have no idea what culture is, you base it on win/loss

What do you mean the last 5 or so years? I can't see any defence in the last 5 or so years..

.. and who said anything about judging culture by flags??

When you look at a rainbow, do you see colours or just black and white?

Still want to play the man rather than debate a post, then call people out for doing the same?

You stated our poor culture was based on our period between flags, right?

And I wrote a stand alone post, wondering if other sides have poor culture

So, that would mean Demons, Saints, Docker would also have poor culture

Where do you see inaccuracies?

No, I didn't say it was our period between flags ... I said it is our period since we've had to abide by the rules.. Our period since we haven't had the option of buying premierships. It's literally the best starting point to judge this.

Every club has their time ... In this day and age, at least, most aren't stuck in it for 20 years... That is the point - culture doesn't come and go, year to year.. It can be changed in a hurry, but it'll stick on the new route for some time.

There was a purpose to my question - there is an inability to think outside the square, to think laterally or with flexibility. It explains your posting style and probably the struggle to comprehend any and all of the broad elements of 'culture'.

I don't think we are far off. We just need a coach who knows what he is doing. Clarkson is a must next year.

Team for next year with Clarkson can make Top 4:

B: Plowman-----------------Jones------------------Docherty

H: Williams----------------Weitering----------------Saad

C: Cuningham--------------Cripps------------------O'Brien

H: SPS---------------------C.Curnow----------------Martin

F: Honey--------------------McKay------------------Owies

Foll: De Koning, Kennedy, Walsh

Bench: Marchbank, Silvagni, Dow, McGovern

Emerg: Stocker, Setterfield, Kemp, Newman, Fisher, Williamson

Trade/Delist: Murphy, E.Curnow, Fogarty, Pittonet, Newnes, Gibbons, Casboult, Betts

Buying flags is purely a timeline, nothing more

What aspect are you basing poor culture on, flags, finals, what is it?

Plowman is not playing in our best 22 next year if we are serious about a culture change onfield.

Might be a good clubman, but he’s a liability on field when under pressure, and we haven’t even played finals.

What are you talking about?? .. 'buying flags is purely a timeline, nothing more' - what on earth does that even mean?

Culture is broad - good culture, naturally, will result in strong performances on the field... many elements of a good and strong club culture are debatable, others are essential.

Stability, positive leadership, minimum and enforced standards, absence of politics, positive environment, quality development ....

You name it... we ain't got it! :)

Your answer is symptomatic of everything that is wrong with the Carlton Football Club. I will leave it to others to reflect on how that answer defines your views and the type of supporter you are

Sydney would love LOB hitting their players up inside 50...

Really ? He has rarely shown that with us really.
I doubt he would be an automatic walk up start at the Swans at any rate. If we can get a 2nd round pick for LOB I would be delighted.

Okay so if we aren't basing it on flags/finals/wins, which I agree it shouldn't be use as a measure, how the hell would you know the level our level of culture ?

People still arguing that we are well ahead of Essendon?

And if so then they must be brilliantly coached to be achieving what they are....

You do realise that no one on here represents the carlton football club in any way shape or form.

One pretty inoffensive post from a genuine non raving and ranting supporter is "symptomatic of everything that is wrong with the Carlton football club"?

Congratulations. I sincerely believe that this is the most over the top ridiculous statement that I have heard. Genuinely.

I dare say that I will be in your sights now. So be it. I think that you need to go away and have a bit of a rest.

At the moment they are better than us but as for next year and beyond when things could lack radically different in terms of coaching, leadership and culture I’m hopeful we can reverse this trend. We did actually beat them this year

Of course with a change in coaching everything can change. But without that can't see us jumping them in 2022. Sure we beat them. But they get the job done a lot more often. And are even respectable in defeat at times.

So are we basing it on ladder position or teams we have beaten this year?
Eye test.

Lining them and us up like the old schoolyard pick your 22 from the two combined groups and I think they would have us covered 14-8 maybe 13-9. And would have us covered 4-0 in the coaching ranks :tearsofjoy:
