At the moment they are better than us but as for next year and beyond when things could lack radically different in terms of coaching, leadership and culture I’m hopeful we can reverse this trend. We did actually beat them this year
I agree. Rutten appears to be a good coach though. There team is well organised.

They have our current midfield covered, Parish coming good has been a real bonus for them. I would take our forward line and back line over theirs but our all or nothing midfield leaves us exposed at times.

One really good midfielder (who pushes hard both ways) and improvement in our ruck stocks (either tdk gets a bit of presence about him or Pittonet improves) and a coach who can ingrain a strong structure and I would take our list over theirs.

Of course with a change in coaching everything can change. But without that can't see us jumping them in 2022. Sure we beat them. But they get the job done a lot more often. And are even respectable in defeat at times.

We are the only club not to have beaten a top 8 team this year so I think it says way more about our ineptitude than the magical powers of *. Whatever.. there is way more honesty and integrity in their playing group now

Plowman is not playing in our best 22 next year if we are serious about a culture change.

Might be a good clubman, but his a liability on field when under pressure, and we haven’t even played finals.

I bet Plowman knows the difference between his and he's.

Oh, I thought we beat them, play on
All sides have now played each other pretty much and we are where on the ladder in comparison?

Did a quick best 22 comparison with 7 backs, 7 forwards & 8 mids/ruck.

5-2, 5-3 & 5-2 their way. With probably a biased win for TDK over Draper which is probably a pretty even contest. Now a lot of that could be down to coaching and with a better coach it doesn't look like 15-7. But right now I'd much rather Ridley over Jones, Redman over Plowman, Devon Smith over Newnes, McGrath over Williams, Parrish over Kennedy, Perkins over Dow, Wright over Casboult, etc. etc.

Hang on, now you are going back to ladder position?

Opinion is fine, if you think Bombers, Saints and Dockers are ahead of us purely on ladder position, even though we beat all of them, that's fine

So are we basing it on ladder position or teams we have beaten this year?

C'mon Arrow. Love your posting but you know that almost anything can happen in an individual match during a hectic H&A season. There are upsets galore but that doesn't make the losing team better.

Overall wins and percentage over an entire year is clearly a far better indicator of where a team is actually at than who beat who in one match. Also, ability to beat a top side or 3 should probably count for something too.

Unfortunately * have been the better team this year and are therefore currently ahead of us. Let's hope with the off-season changes based off the review, we can rectify that.

Think Cuningham has the ability to be a genuine quality midfielder. He's spoken about less in the "being played out of position" diatribes but imo suffered the most for being left to rot forward, when he's a dynamic stoppage player with excellent delivery. Should have been developed as a mid, fingers crossed he can come back strongly from the knee.
Cunningham was coming beautifully this season. His knee injury broke my heart and now who knows how he returns.

It is about output over 20 games of football. Not one off games. Over 20 games of football they stack up pretty well. Freo not so much but they have some definite positives about them. St Kilda have worse problems than us imo.

So shift the posts again, what do yo want to base it on, flags or finals?

You really have no idea what culture is, you base it on win/loss
Genuine question, what is a successful football culture then? Yesterday, we pretty much had our best team we have managed to put on the park for the year, playing a team that got annihilated last week, playing for our season then getting absolutely mauled in the midfield and taken apart cleary after half time.

Besides Weitering، Jones and Walsh I didn't see any sort of desperation by our players or leaders to stand up and try fight the tide.

Funny, Whitnall as captain is an indication of our current culture

Still playing the man? Okay, let's do that. You are a mental midget that has deflected a number of times rather than being able to answer a stand alone post

"Wondering if other clubs suffer from poor culture", yes or no, what are your thoughts?

If you're going to call someone a 'mental midget', at least get your punctuation right.

Did I not already say that 'all clubs have their time' ? ... I don't know about you, but I would have thought that anyone with an average level of intellectual capacity would interpret that as meaning other clubs do suffer from poor culture, at times ... I would also accept Carlton suffering from poor culture, at times. When it drags on over 2 decades, I think it's time to acknowledge that we have a problem. The Club (and maybe you) seem to have been the slowest to recognise it. Frankly, a large section of the supporter base has been onto it for well over 10 years. The hardest part is admitting it - you should give it a crack some time. I won't be holding my breath.

Pick an actual 22 not just head to head because it’s easily manipulated

The backline would be
Hind Jones Ridley
Saad Weitering Williams

Forward line
Martin Curnow Smith
AMT McKay Stringer

It’s the midfield where they smash us. Against nearly any side the only two who would possibly be in are Cripps and Walsh.

I really like the style the * play, solid balance between attack and defense. That lends to big wins and some massive spankings

But, the draw is never equal, nor is the draw an excuse for our poor performances

I know it looks dire now but we have good young mid prospects on the list who can influence in the future:

Philp (rate him big time)
Carroll
Ramsay
Kemp

Then oldies..

Doch
Cuners
Fish (still hope)
Dow (real slow burn but can now see it)
Fog (as a mid could surprise a few, but not me)

Like the cupboard isn’t bare.

What we need is to trade out SPS, Setters and LOB for mid trades or picks and things could really change radically

So we are back here again

2 decades, must be based on flags or finals then? Is that the metric?

Let's see if you can plant those goal posts, are you capable?

Employing your other tactic, go around and round in circles until the other person walks away... another victory for your fragile ego!

Have a good day, keep smoking the good stuff and enjoy the rise!

Retire - Murphy, Betts, Levi, Ed
Retire/delist - Newnes, Newman
Question marks - Boyd, Gibbons, Mcdonald, Marchbank

There's your 8 changes.

Best case scenario we can make changes to the Football Department quickly so some of the young talent doesn't walk.
Reset the culture of the Football Department.
Better add Fisher, SPS, & O'brien as trade bait.

Even moving to that it still looks very much their way. I know we all love Liam Jones but with his kicking I'd prefer Ridley as the 2nd tall defender and then Redman as the 3rd tall over Plowman
