Contracted to end of 2022 I believe. Dunno that he would fit your lists age profile though.
Age is exactly why I asked about him.

Fits need perfectly.

Legit question - Heard that Dow might not be on the required player list at Carlton.

Do any of you think this is accurate?
And if so, what is his contract status and value in your opinion?

Thanks

Pretty sure that originated from the same article that suggested we were going to try and trade Silvagni.

Dow is starting on-ball for us, and was doing so with Cripps in the team unlike this weekend. He's probably not going to be looking for opportunities elsewhere as a staring on-baller as he's not coming in and out of the team now Barker is gone and they're not trying to make him play as a permanent hff for some stupid f****** reason.

thanks for that. I thought he was better suited to MF - but I also get when its full sometimes the kids have to wait. We have Narkle in the same boat.

I thought he was OOC but it seems its not until 2022 and is required.

Best of luck for the offseason in respect to getting the change and stability you are looking for. Andif you get sick of that Walsh bloke or TDK, we 'd luv them to come home.

Reckon we've got about 10-12 years of service from those two before they're 'ready' for your mob.... that's how this joke goes, right?

If you wish to persist with the age stuff, then yes.

But id also add - that too old stuff has been getting a run with us since 2011. It's now 2021 and we've missed the Finals once in that time, and we're neck deep in it again.

Perhaps there is something to it given where you've been over that time.

Best to you this week and hope you give Eddie a good send off. Thanks for your time.

No, but heard Marc Murphy and Eddie Betts is available. Perfect for your list age proflie.

all good, it was a tongue in cheek remark.

hopefully somehow one day we'll have players with a 70%+ career win ratio...

I love that you have said "I come in peace" 😂

You boys will certainly be in with another shot at the cup this season and have done well with your list for the past 10+ years.

Hopefully we can start to make finals consistently and become a contender in the next 2-4 years because all of us are yearning for it as it's been far too long.

The other thing that I hope they’re considering at the club, is that we have time on our side (in terms of where I think our list is at - meaning, not focusing on the Cripps generation, but focusing on the 2015 onwards generation … wanna be competing by the time those guys are 25-28 imo)... we can afford to take some risks … my concern is that we succumb to the same impatient pressure as we have in the past.
Funnily enough the core of that group (2015 guys) do turn 25 next year. (A couple after the football season.) our problem is we are possibly going to have stuff all in the 2016 group and are hopeful we get a couple out of the 2017 guys. The big guns though in Weitering, McKay and Curnow are in their prime next year, hopefully best 22 guys in Kennedy, JSOS and Cuningham are too. Add to them Plowman, Newman, Jones, Williams, Saad, Doc and Cripps then it’s possible we are going to peak over the next few years. Say we do go to the draft this year with our first rounder, that one player, going off what we are seeing so far with our other recruits may only start contributing in the year those 2015 guys hit 28-29. There is no problem with that but we also have to replace Plowman, Jones, Doc, Williams, Saad and possibly Cripps as soon as the new guy starts performing.
If we did pick up Cerra he along with Fogarty, Dow and LOB will be turning 23 next year. Their prime would coincide with over half of our list. Walsh is already a star and Stocker turns 22 in about four months, Kemp and Philp turning 21 next year. Considering our 2015 guys will be turning 28 the year a recruit from this years draft will be turning 22 then if we think they are going to help us contend then we should also expect the likes of Walsh and Stocker to next year and Kemp, Honey and Philp the year after.
We shouldn’t be making big decisions by rushing things but I also think when you look at the age profile of the group a new draftee is only going to play a few meaningful years of football while the majority of the best player on our list are actually in their prime. I also don’t think chasing a mid is rushing things. It’s been the plan for a long, long time and why SOS offered huge overs to guys like Shiel and Cogs a few years back.

It’s a really tricky position we are in atm. For me Cerra is the safe bet, it’s sort of hedging your bets in terms of timeline to success. He is old enough to play a huge role for us to start contending next year and in 7-8 years if need be.

If Ross is coming to the Blues, you'd think he'll try and bring Walters with him. Could be a good Eddie replacement, as a mature head directing traffic in the young forward line/someone familiar with Ross' game plan.

He’s an absolute gun at his best. I wonder why he’s struggled so much this year after being awesome in 2020. If we’re confident he can get back his pace and form, then I’d take him for sure. If he’s legitimately cooked, then pass.

With Serong having a blinder of a game it made me think.

Can someone who pays a bit more attention to the whole academy thing tell me what happened with Serong. Wasn't he at our academy- Northern Knights?

Am I mistaken?

21yo who is getting better...
2 of LOBs last 3 games since being back, have been quite good...

His stats have been on par if not better than the much touted Dow, Fisher & Newnes
Plus LOB runs both ways and helps out in defence, which is a trait we desperately need...

I'd be offering him another contract
I’d like to see how much better a few of our younger players can really improve with incoming influences, coaches and better systems/structures across the board, also the development of them whether in senior or a proper uninterrupted reserves competition season….
If O’Brien was to be considered tradable by the club, then being used in requiring a much required type/age we need for a good deal that would be beneficial to our list needs, might be the way to go…
if we are only letting him go for a late end of the draft pick then we’re much better off holding on to him and hoping he may come on with better development with another full year under his belt…
