When a big breakaway gets going, which team will want to chase for that long? Unless they nail it early its gone
I doubt the break will be a large one at this stage. If it is I suspect Matthews will join it, he needs the Green jersey points

One thing (almost) for certain is that Schelling will be in the break in the hopes of holding on to his Polka Dot jersey
He took the last few days easier to rest for this

Sorry I'm late!

The Tour de France hadn’t featured such a long stage since 21 years ago. 249.1km are on the menu of stage 7 from Vierzon to Le Creusot. The first 100km to Nevers, a famous town for the French bicycle industry with Look and Time, are pretty flat but the remaining of the race is a permanent up and down, notably in the Morvan national park. It’s very suitable for a breakaway from far out. It’ll also be interesting to see if GC contenders, particularly those who have already lost a significant amount of time to Tadej Pogacar in the Breton stages and the time trial (Ineos Grenadiers?) will try and use the climbs at the end to make it up. The unprecedented Signal d’Uchon is very much anticipated. It’s a 5.7km long climb with an average of 5.7% and gradients up to 18% with only 18km to go. It’s possibly the last chance for Wout van Aert to dethrone his arch-rival Mathieu van der Poel who expects a very difficult task on his way to Le Creusot.

Good luck with that... the Cat 2 climb is only 18km from the finish. By that stage he'll either be dropped, or the peleton will have caught the breakaway.

This is a disaster for UAE, burning many of their matches to chase down a break away, and they are not even in yellow.. ok maybe not a disaster but its not good.

It's strange. Don't really need to be concerned about this break. WVA won't be a factor later in the race. Let him have yellow, make them defend yellow tomorrow for a guy that will struggle to finish top 20

Jesus, how long was that conversation... thankfully we're back to the commentary.
The previous advice from Matt/Robbie about just watching it through the the Tour Tracker app to avoid things on the TV (because they'd had people complain to them about packages on shown on TV) couldn't have been much more prescient

MVDP is beyond stuffed. Could suffer tomorrow.

van Aert…a week ago I said why isn’t he going for GC, maybe he is. Wow. Gives himself a huge shot after that. Roglic, any sign? Hasn’t finished yet? You’d imagine his tour hopes are done.

What a brilliant stage! It looked like a one-day classic in profile and has turned out like one - just in the middle of a GT

What a big couple of weeks its been for Mohoric - first he wins the Slovenian NCs and now he's won a stage at TdF to complete the treble of stage wins at GTs

Following a very demanding stage 7 to Le Creusot contested at 45.5km/h on a hilly terrain in the second half, the first mountain stage of the Tour de France will give an indication on whose legs will pay the price first. Only two stages are located in the Alps this year but it promises another great show, starting from the final 50km to Le Grand Bornand with three category 1 climbs: Mont Saxonnex, col de Romme and col de la Colombière. Mathieu van der Poel fears that it is too hard for him but he already expected to lose his yellow jersey in the time trial. Julian Alaphilippe returns where he claimed his first Tour de France stage victory in 2018. This time around, he’s not hunting for the polka dot jersey anymore but possibly for the overall triumph…
