Should try and get mark McVeigh. He’d let the club know some hole truths

Another with ties to the Swans showing hole truths. We've seen enough of that this weekend, although I'm sure you could twist Dard Ball Get 's arm for another hole or two

Would Geary be considered for an assistant coach role?
I hope not. No disrespect to Geary, I just think we need new eyes at the club. I'm not fond of the idea of any player going straight from player to assistant coach at the same club, unless the club is already in an extremely successful position.

Congratulations to Ernie Merrick on being appointed Chief Football Officer of Football Australia! A Melbourne Victory legend and currently with the Saints overlooking the coaching, he will have a massive role in improving multiple elements of the sport. He'll have his work cut out, but if he succeed he will leave an enormous legacy.

They won’t announce anything yet,the unfortunate negative is if a coach knows he’s gone what type of output do you get heading towards the end of the year.

How would you perform at work knowing you finish up in 4 weeks.

We can cover it, just needs to swap roles with the trainee receptionist for a month or so.

Nah she /he has been absolutely flat out running all our "special games", training sessions and putting together the game plans. It's no wonder we're struggling🤣
How are we still in debt? It seems we should be saving money with the one person doing every job at the club.

We need to be actively hunting down any Ex Head Coaches we can find. They have plenty to give, Ratten himself knows this!

Got to be at least a few that are keen to continue coaching in a 2IC role.

Cameron, Noble, Simpson TBC, Hinkley TBC- come on down!

I'd get Noble into the footy department somewhere. He's a gun outside the coaching role, he could be like getting a Neale Balme in.

Haha no I think without great effort the things you talk about as being foundations don't mean anything...so yeah, consistently great effort takes precedent over anything else when building a successful side.

I would say that bringing great effort with an average gameplan will win you more games than having a great gameplan and not turning up.

I think Richo was an effort coach and he got wins over good sides that were napping but could never get over them when they bought effort too.

Swans are a good example of a side that does both, they have a baseline work ethic that is a non negotiable and goes back to the Paul Roos days but then they have a really strong system that looks like it has lot of team orientated stuff but there is also a really obvious focus on ball movement and in close work. You can see they isolate players in space to allow for the ball to transition and it's not the same every time. They are hard to play against when it all clicks but hard to play against even when their systems get worked over because the baseline is there.

I think our GP is messy and hard to work out what the plan is but also the work rate can go up but then heads drop as we don't get reward for effort. Most sides counteract the zones with fast ball movement at the moment and that takes skill in isolating players but also a lot of faith in team-mates to win contests and play brave high risk footy. We look like we have trust issues and a lack of system.

Well yeah there's variables with everything but if both sides are even in terms of talent, I'd take the one that gives more effort over the side with the better gameplan. Obviously talent becomes a factor but I think without the foundation of effort, you've got nothing.

I will also say having an average gameplan is a better problem to have than having a group that doesn't turn up

Man, I can completely see this point of view and though it is not my point of view I respect it. I hear what you speak.

I think gameplan can cover talent and if effort isn't a consistent given then something has gone wrong with recruiting and development.

So, before a game begins you are behind. None of this is directed at STKFC at this point in time—just a discussion.

I remember that you follow both the EPL and NFL. My observations of watching Liverpool and New Orleans is that both teams can win or stay competitive, even when undermanned, because they have a superior coaching squad to most, who devise structures, plays and strategies to assist whoever is on the field on any given 'Sunday' so to speak.

The players of these clubs always 'try'—though that is a generic term.
But they also often, often win due to them playing their part in a field wide structure where each inch matters.

But not arguing, I see what you are saying and think it is just variations on various themes.
