Are we still looking for a forwards coach or will Harvs fill that role? I assume he'd just be senior assistant so kind of all round, Hayes with the mids and Enright with the backs.

Murmurings on Twitter GT & Peckett all for it
This was murmured by big footy , so who knows. Nut Cripps said himself that he was staying where he was in SA.

I would think Harvey/Hayes will do forward or mids between them.

Now that Ben Jacobs has left I wouldnt be surprised if the club BJ his development role.

No idea but the implication sounded like he would be a line coach as well.
implication GIF

What was the previous setup?
I think....
In 2021 we had Hammil ( senior assistant and defence) and Skrobalak( Forward) and McGlynn was Assistant coach and head of Development? , with Batchelor VFL coach and development. Lade Midfield?

Then we got Enright in for Defense, Lade senior/forward? , McGlynn Midfield. I think they recognised that McGlynn was struggling, and got Carroll in to do the Head Development coach role. Seems that McGlynn has now quit coaching.

I've not heard any actual feedback on how good Enright and Hayes are as coaches.
Enright has been coaching since 2017. Hayes since 2016.
Harvey obviously one of the more experienced senior coaches in the AFL , with experience in multiple clubs since 2008 but mostly as an assistant coach under Buckley.

So I'm guessing Harvey will be Senior Enright Defense Hayes/Harvey Midfield or Forward.
Carroll still development. Batchelor still Sandy coach.

With Jacobs gone i wonder if Geary is looking at a role in coaching.

Unless Lyon has changed it up since his announcement, Hayes is midfield coach

We've had some serious upgrades over the last 2 year's

Its really hard to say, no-one every tells you that XXXXX is a shit coach.
Here on big footy we've had rumbling that Lade etc are no good, mainly due to continued poor performance in their areas, but we never hear it from clubland.
Harvey has been interviewed for many senior positions. Lade maybe not as many.
Lenny and Enright we mainly know from their playing.

The irony is that we could have given Harvey as shot all those years ago, it couldn't have worked out worse.

Can't quite remember, but didn't Harvs apply for the coaching job after Watters left, but I think the club were keen on Richo?

Yeah you can only really go on what you hear. Lade is highly rated by some. Not sure if Skrabolack or whatever is still in the system though and Hamill hasn't had great results in any role.

Harvey may not be a senior coach but the fact he continues to get senior assistant roles (and at big clubs) shows he must be going alright and Hayes was very well regarded at GWS.

I think we've done quite well

I think Skrobalak is coaching Port Melbourne?

Not that excited about this one to be honest

Who knows though
Depends if he has any coaching experience. Not sure what he’s been up to.
Dont want him back purely because he’s an ex-player.

Taking the spot of the guy who went to Essendon? Straight swap?
Does BJ actually have any coaching experience?
I don't think so, but Ross Lyon never had any coaching experience when he took his first role to be fair

I'd imagine it will be a role in development which is where many start off

Good point.
I don’t have a problem with that. Another one who will drive standards and push the competitive edge.
Just keep him away from the pretzels.

Thoughts about BJ:

He has no coaching qualifications or experience but was an elite player with a lot of experience at both ends of the ladder - I'd try him out in a developmental role with a view to him going for coaching certification in the near future

I don't give a monkey's about his stated preference for Essendon, he has stated it's due to there being more people there now from his time that there were at St Kilda.

It's clear he is close mates with plenty of old Saints, has a strong bond with his people and is loyal to people, not a club. I am fine with that.

He seems like a thoughtful intelligent footballer, could be given a chance in a lower level role and it may pay off down the line. If he ends up being a master coach for the Dons in 10 years so be it.

So Goddard’s back as well now according to multiple reports, as a development coach. Interesting, sounds about right.

Personnel additions this off season:
  • Geoff Walsh
  • Ross Lyon
  • Lenny Hayes
  • David Misson
  • Robert Harvey
  • Brendon Goddard
With Corey Enright, David Rath, Simon Lethlean, Andrew Bassett, Damian Carroll, and Nick Walsh.

Anyone I’m forgetting in prominent off-field positions? (Aside from the trainee receptionist ofc). IDK if Jarryd Roughead is still with us.

Overall though, looks pretty good to me, at the very least it’ll be a culture that demands a high work ethic. Fingers crossed no one at the club gets ahead of themselves though, let’s leave that to the supporters.

Yes he does, he just won an A Grade premiership in the VAFA with a very, very young list. He was head of strategy and assistant coach at my club SKOB, he’s a gun.
A grade VAFA is a serious competition, the top sides would beat several VFL teams.

Whenever you hear a member of the 09/10 teams talk about the culture of the club at that time, they always bring up the fact that there were strong leaders around that set the bar high for was expected by the playing group. This ethic was instilled into the young Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Montagna etc the moment they first stepped foot into the club, and helped them become the players they turned out to be. I see BJ as a prime example of this type of leadership. He will expect nothing but maximum effort from the players and will not hesitate to call out anyone who gives any less. I would personally be rapt about this appointment
