It really isn't, especially when we need somewhere for general draft discussion.

Then go to the general draft chat thread.
This thread should be purely for rumours about what club is picking which player.

Jaeger O'Meara was a superstar as a junior his knee cap issues stopped him becoming the player
he could of become i.e all time great
Before those knee caps issues his pace was super super elite.
His pace was breath taking and he used it like Chriss Judd to burn opponents of

JOM is one of the biggest what could have been stories of the 21st century.

Best first year player I've seen along with Judd and Daicos.

I really hope Tsatas does fall to us and hearing it may be a possibility. Has the speed and power to be the player JOM could have been. If he develops his contested side watch out.

Bennell is another one of those.

Someone on our board just posted that Adelaide are looking at trading their future 1st to a club in the 4-10 range to grab Phillipou.
If that were the case they would have simply given Gold Coast their F1 in the Rankine trade, which is what GC were after in any case.

Where did you read that's what Gold Coast wanted?

Every article I read said they were asking for pick 5.
I must have mistaken "Looking for picks in the draft" to wanting the Crows F1.

It also made no sense for GC to want a future 1st as one of there academy kids for 2023 is likely to attract a top 3 bid.
The idea that first round picks lose value because of academy or father son players is by far one of the more bizarre ones around.

It really isn't

Why do you think clubs give away so much to get a pick in front of their academy kids?

Makes sense for clubs to use high draft picks on the open draft rather than get eaten up by academy selections that you can get wirh later picks

Any first round pick after a bid on a FS/NGA kid is pretty much redundant. At that stage it's total points that matter more than draft position.

Gold Coast are now in a position where they can use first round picks to attract talent.

I'm not surprised a Dog's fan feels this way but two first round picks next year would give Gold Coast greater scope to get ahead of any bid, if it is necessary. On top of that, we have no idea how the draft landscape will change next year for their academy player.

A first round pick will always hold strong value. It's an underused negotiation tool.

"I mean..... it's only useful under certain conditions"
Knowing a team has to trade the pick out isn't the best starting position for bargaining - and 'attracting talent' is moot if you consider Gold Coast's cap position.

Gold Coast asked for a pick this year (correctly IMO) for a reason.

And who knows what the conditions for next year will be? If they had two top 10 picks and their academy players struggle next year, that means what? Bowes at the start of his draft year was thought of as a certainty to go top 3, but ended up getting taken late in the top 10.

Given that they also gave away their top 10 Pick to get Bowes off the books, why not increase any bargaining power of next year instead and just given Bowes away for a pick?

Gold Coast's list manager is probably the worst in the AFL right now. There have been very few decisions of late that suggest otherwise.

In any case, I doubt Adelaide are looking to move back into this year's draft to get Phillipou. If they were planning to, they'd have found a way to keep pick 5.

I would expect a bit of a bidding war on such a pick next year.

Brisbane would probably happily throw a future future first, plus extras at GC for a first round pick in next year’s draft.

The rumour also comes from Boops so we know it's a load of shit

I have no idea why people say this.

If GCS hold an early pick next year and have to trade it due to Academy bid position, they'll get amazing offers for it.

You take the better pick whenever you can.

The Crows didn't offer their F1.

It's worth a lot more, it would be silly for them to do it.

Gc have academy kids next year that will be top end they wouldnt have wanted a future 1st getting swallowed (yes i know they could have traded it for 2024 picks but still).

They won't trade it out this year. They could do a Collingwood and fall in front of a Walter bid or Walter could do a lemmey and fall off a cliff.

Then they can use their own draft pick to get one.

Wouldn't make sense to bring in a future first just in case they happen to land someone they can trade it on though.

If they can't land anyone which is likely it just leaves them with a pick that will be swollowed by academy kids and mean they miss out on taking someone line Humphry in the draft
