Been pointed out that Hawthorn lack genuine pace through the midfield

They will have two top 25 picks (minimum) next year. They don’t have a lot of good insides bar Duke as well. Best available should be the plan whoever that is

Tsatas wants to stay in Victoria not sure there’s anything I’m missing unless there’s something you can update me on
Very selfish one way runner who offers nothing defensively. Doesn't sound very Hawthorn to me.

According to this, there's a rookie upgrade period immediately after day 2 of the draft, so I wonder if you can wait until then to upgrade rookies.

The vacant main list spots and draft picks assume we haven't upgraded Madden as yet. Our recruiting boss Stephen Conole flagged the only picks we'll likely be taking are Ashcroft, Fletcher, McDowell-White (category B) and a category B rookie from our academy.
Yes, so Madden upgrade ticks the requirement for a third ND pick.
We’ve had this discussion on our board. dlanod is of the belief we can take the 5 picks to draft, without the AFL automatically removing the pick needed to upgrade Madden.

I agree with you, that in previous drafts, the AFL has always removed the late pick that was to be used to upgrade a rookie player to the senior list.

You'll have an hour from 10pm on the 29th (but more in line with end of draft) to upgrade rookies.

You can nominate them before the draft, but you can do it in that window after the national draft.
I am aware of the rookie upgrade period at the end of the draft. And GWS seems to be in the same position as Brisbane (Callum Brown v James Madden) in needing to upgrade him off the Cat B rookie list. But if clubs can keep their pick, through the ND until that post-ND upgrade period, I would have thought GWS should have kept pick #61.

36 on main list, less 7 (4 traded [Hill, Bruhn, Taranto, Hopper], 1 retired [MdB], 2 delisted [Brander, Davis]), plus 1 (Bedford) = 30
7 on rookie A list, less 2 (Sproule & Stein) = 5.
So, 7 spots available.

Thus, I would have thought we should have 7 picks, #1, 15, 18, 19, 31, 57 and 61 based on the preceding discussion. But we don't have #61, indicating we've had it removed already to cover off the Brown upgrade.

It frustrates me that VFL House does not provide clear guidance and explanation of this stuff. It's small potatoes, but just adds to the view that they just make shit up as they go along.

You must be fun at parties. Wonder if your tune would be different if he was set to be taken by North.

They've got a couple if handy insides.

I'd be more worried about just taking best available that high in the draft anyway

Probably shows this draft really. Honestly if you get 1 solid 200 gamer it’s solid

Funnily enough I was pretty certain that the AFL automatically removes the picks for rookie upgrades based off previous examinations a few years back.

However going back to last year's, as of at least 2021 the AFL does not remove picks used for rookie upgrades.

Case study: Carlton had 25, 63, 78 in the final order, used 27 (formerly 25) in the draft, and 63 and 78 got disappeared in the process with Carlton taking Honey and Kennedy as promoted rookies. Similarly Melbourne had four live picks, used three in the draft plus James Jordon as a promoted rookie.

Not sure what that means for Geelong this year only having two picks?
