Would prefer not personally because at 192cm he doesn't really bring anything to the side we can't get with both McCartin's. He isn't big enough to take on the really tall key forwards that Sydney sometimes struggle with.
He is a great pick. Criminally underrated.

Doesn’t bring anything the McCartins can’t bring?

How about a huge vertical? Absolute elite speed and one of the best engines in the entire draft?

Both McCartins don’t hold a candle to Weddle athletically and won’t be able to play on the range of forwards he’s going to be able to.

Weddle is the type that will be able to take Jeremy Cameron one week and Charlie Cameron the next.

I wouldn’t be comparing him to McCartin, I’d be thinking of him as Rampe 2.0.

He is also shorter than the McCartin's and right now Sydney mainly struggle against the 198cm or taller key forwards and Weddle won't help with that.

We need a really tall key defender or a big bodied inside mid.

Yes he’s shorter, but you aren’t taking into account his arm length and his vertical.

His absolute reach in the full testing data is that of a full size KPD and he’s got some of the fastest 5/10m splits of any defender for the last few years, with a big frame.

He combines all that with a 6 minute 2km.

No doubt in my mind he finishes up in the best 5-6 players in this draft. But no club is taking a defender of his size in the top 7, so someone gets a bargain.

He has the potential to be a Tom Stewart/Dan Rampe level 3rd defender.

I don't doubt he is a good player, I just don't think he fills a real need for the Swans, at least not compared to other players. With Weddle we are still going to have the same flaws we had that caused us to get smashed in the Grand Final.

Think he would be a perfect fit. Would replace ramped nicely.

No 200cm defender you are going to draft is plugging the hole you are describing for at least 4-5 years.

They would be better trying for Brand or Eyre who we delisted both big ish tall defenders sadly we ran out of list spots for either of them

Johns just some kid account.
I can see us taking mckenzie ahead of clark but im not sure we would place tsatas ahead. But i think we might pretend we will take tsatas to see if another vic club will trade overs for us for 7 (assuming phillipou humphrey and mckenzie/ginbey go 4-6).
Would dogs take tsatas? I know hes good value at 11 but gee they have so many mids..i would have though busslinger would be a better fit for them
The dogs have so many mids sentemnet isnt really that true

They just lost Dunkley theyve never had good wingers and barely have anyone developing in the VFL there

Libba 31 next year, Treloars 30 and seems like he could do a hammy/calf anytime

Theyve lost Lipinski, Dunkley, Hunter the last 2 years

Imo they need midfield more than anything

Also their recruting manager said they just take best available and id expect most draft boards have Tsatas inside the top 5 so if hes there at 11/12 id be surprised if he isnt the top player left in their order

We are hoping Gould can do that. We also recruited Francis for that and Fox can do it too.

Gould and Francis can not take small forwards with genuine leg speed like Weddle can.

They probably struggle to keep up with the Darling/Gunston extremely mobile third tall forwards also.

Lack of leg speed was Goulds biggest knock.

I am not saying Waddle is a bad player. However even if he is everything you say he is he just isn't someone we desperately need. It would be like the Bulldogs for some reason recruiting Jefferson. Sure he may be a good player, but he isn't a player the Bulldogs need, especially when your club has other holes in your list that need addressing.

Dogs need key backs.

I’m not sure I get your anology.

You don’t have 2 consecutive top 3 pick medium defenders on your books and I don’t think Gould and Francis are comparable to JUH and Darcy.

Surely taking Hotton with the quality of young mid/fwds you have is the better equivalent.

I’m not sure Gould and Francis stop you taking probably the best all-round defender in the draft.

I dont mind Allan* but hes a very similar player to knevitt who we drafted last year and im not a fan of the go home factor with allan.
I did consider that but given it’s either a midfielder or a midfielder (assuming not all that keen on Buss or Jefferson) I’d want the guy with the heighest ceiling.

Parfitt, Atkins have a heap of footy left and Bruhn will slot in to give 3 solid smaller mids. So bigger body mids are the priority replacing Danger and Blicavs in the next few years.

No reason you can’t have 2 x 193cm+ mids if they have the speed and agility.

The go home factor is a consideration but I think as the son of an experienced AFL player who spent a lot of time in Melbourne that Allan might have a more worldly view. That’s just a hunch. Obviously can’t know anything for certain.

Behind mids sure

I just think theyre taking Tsatas every day of the week over any key back in the draft

They do also have like 4/5 guys capable of playing key back
Key back Is their weakness.

Key back Is their weakness.
We rode on only Gardner and a banged up Keath last year. This year we will now have Jones who will play a man on man role. Darcy had a brief camero late, who will likely play a loose intercept role, and there is talk one of the forwards may even drop back, Bruce or Naughton. Given Lobb, Ugle Hagan and Naughton / Bruce (if he finds his 2021 pre knee injury form) will be our forward line. That is like 3 new players at the back, and all are talls.

They need defenders yes, but more the smaller lock down types, like Weddle, Michalanney, Van E's, Ryan. Cannot see how Busslinger and Hayes fit in amongst 5 talls already, unless they are happy to ride the VFL team for a couple of years. The midfield were TERRIBLE this year, with no defensive structure and heaps of turnovers, even improving that a fraction will help the defence big time. Need a lot more cleaner ball use going inside 50, and more leg speed/defensive work rate from the midfield. Aside from Bont, no one really hurts teams. Dogs lack that x factor. Midfield was the biggest weakness and reason we crumbled this season, went backwards in many key stats, could not stop teams transitioning coast to coast, and did not offer the forwards much in the way of delivery.

A 17/18 year old aint going to fix that

Ill be surprised if dogs take Hayes or Busslinger over Tsatas
Very surprised if Tsatas slides, but I'd expect we'd take him if available.
Teams rarely draft for needs with their first pick anyway - it's almost always best available.

We have two picks after 11 to consider needs as well.
