Heard commentators say Honey looked sore and was walking the to the bench late last quarter. Anyone know anything?
He and Stocker were involved in a fracas of sorts which wasn't shown properly in the telecast I don't think it is anything too bad - the wrestling went on for about 20 seconds out of screen with 7-8 players involved from both teams- the Doggies got a little aggro when the match was lost.

Gee I was only thinking earlier lucky stocker didn't play last night he would of got fined again for that melee -- then he goes wrestling in the 2's to make up for it .. lol

To reverse our usual roles, here's what will actually happen:

  • Kemp at full back for 30 minutes, before being swung forward in desperation to snag some goals
  • Dow to be left as a lone hand at most forward stoppages while trying to help drive the ball out from defensive stoppages, then being asked to target tackles in the last 40 minutes of the game
  • Stocker to play the 'Hodge at 35' role the entire match
  • Setters 70/30 wing/stoppage split, does his job while unsurprisingly failing to break the game open covering 13 kms on a slow track
  • Motlop to look like someone who has his arse cheeks glued together before the game, instead of doing sprint technique work through the week
  • Philp to play defensive HF, with 5 stoppage appearances
  • Honey deepest small forward, with 20-25 minutes trying to push up the ground because 'we need his spark near goal, he's something special there'
  • Carroll 70/30 wing/stoppage split, runs out of gas for at least a quarter
  • Mirkov to protect his lower leg stability and remain defensively focused at the centre bounce
Well I got what... 7.5 out of 9?

Why is Cincotta not on an AFL list?
No sidestep, limited tank. Disappears for entire quarters. Would be a general defender at the next level despite the straight line speed.

Radovanovic is in a similar boat: position unclear at next level and knee stability issues.

I probably wouldn't recall him yet but I thought Carroll was the best of our mids. Has class and his kicking better again.

While Setterfield had a good game he still fumbled and lacked poise. Hacks the ball forward to often without thinking. Gets away with it at VFL level but will cost us at AFL level.
I had a good look at the game and came to the same conclusions. Carroll was a class above. He’s clean, makes good decisions, runs hard both ways. He values his possessions- never blazes away. When he gets a bit stronger he is going to be a terrric player.

I felt he and Hioney were clearly our best.

To be fair to Setters he really played HARD. Chased hard. Hit the ball hard. Tackles hard. Played with real intent. Just lacks class. He didn’t fumble as much as last week but he did waste the ball. He’s looking more and more like an old fashioned tagger to me. Have to give him credit - he played wing all day and found so much of the footy.

Dow was very good for the most part. And agree with others that he didn’t impose himself defensively. He IS running back though which is a big lift for him this year. He’s clearly the third best clearance player (after Cripps and Hewett) at the club and if they wanted a lift there I could see a role for him and wouldn’t complain.

Kemp was ok but (a) he’s physically not very strong (gets pushed aside) and (b) loses his feet way too often. Also hacks if out of the backline without thought sometimes. I presume they will play him next week. I have no idea how he would cope with Taberner or Lobb as he’s a genuine third tall only. And a developing one at that.

I thought Mirkov was better than others suggested. He’s actually very clean (doesn’t fumble) and makes good decisions, uses the ball well. He may not be winning every single hitout like he was BUT he does bring the ball straight to ground which at afl level would really suit our mids. I still like the idea of him coming in and TDk playing back.

And Josh Honey….what a weapon he is. Plays next week for sure. Commentators didn’t say he came off injured right at the end. They just said he was walking the boundary and wondered if he was ok. Am sure he is. He is SO clean and powerful. Not only did he kick 4, he set up at least 3 (maybe 4) other shots on goal. He is dangerous as hell. Mark him down for a game next week and 2-3 goals.

Honey just looked like the most talented player on the ground and plays like he knows it.

Setterfield got a fair bit of easy ball in the back half… He has no composure and just chucks it on the boot…

Jogs alongside the player with the ball, like Dow, but doesn’t get crucified in here like Dow does…

Dow is a lot more creative with the ball and tries to take the game on…

I was impressed last night. The Doggies had us covered for experience and it looked ominous given the start they had. However it quickly turned.

Overall our ball movement was better and we looked more energetic.

I hadn’t seen Ben Crocker work that hard before. He covered a lot of ground. The combined forward efforts of Crocker and Honey were exciting. Glass-Mac was our best big man and chipped in with a couple of handy goals.

The back line scrapped for possession making it difficult for the Doggies in their forward half. Kempy kept at it. Stocker and Cincotta played well.

Around the ground I was rapt with how hard the running players worked. Setterfield, Fogarty, Dow and Carroll pushed the game in our favour.

Plenty for the match committee to ponder before picking the best 23 for Fremantle.

Honey was everything Martin wasn’t on Thursday night. Martin has needed an extended run in the 2s ever since he returned from injury but probably got straight back in as Honey himself was only getting back from injury and not ready to challenge for his spot. However now Honey is in form and Martin isn’t so it’s time to make the change. I’d like to see Honey get at least a couple weeks in the 1s during which time Martin can go back to the 2s and see if earn his spot for once in his life.

Understand the sentiment, but it will be Owies who makes way I reckon.

Pretty impressive 2nd half from Kemp considering who he was playing on & the size difference. Confidence is all he needs.

Honey is an obvious in for the Freo match. Replaces Martin.

Yep Kemp did enough for mine to come in for Durdin…not that we have much choice until Weiters is back (hopefully against the Saints).

IMO Honey for Martin is a must.

I’m not sure anyone else did enough to come in to the side, not in like for like changes anyway (ie I can’t see Stocker dislodging any of the small backs, and I’d rather we keep Owies and Durdin than play Dow, Carroll, Philp, Fog, Setts out of position in the forward line just to get them in).

And that’s a great attitude to have for a half forward. Love a bit of cockiness - look at Shae Bolton.

Honey was in my best 22 pre season, ahead of Owies and Durdin, and still very much is. We forget how good he was in 1’s last year off limited experience in a battling team.
