Is that Valente behind Lobb?
It actually wasn't my comment about Longmuir keeping the forward structure by playing a 200cm player, but it does look like that was the plan. Walkingwounded from memory. And my singular point in terms of this discussion is that it is a conservative move designed to stick to the existing structure.I think you're kinda echoing Ppljss but from a different angle but I think Ppljss is more on the money in that I don't think JL was even trying to be creative, where as you're saying JL CHOSE not to be creative, correct me if I'm wrong. In the end, you're likely right that JL wanted to maintain structure more than anything, and that just fine for a young team. My angle is just suggesting that moving AP could have been perceived as a good move, if he was able to perform. I think the overall quality of the team on the day, didn't help him play well. Whether it was Cox or Pearce, well, that's always debatable.
If I recall, the thought process was around keeping the game plan as similar to what they had been training. Ie a >200cm marking forward in goal square with Tabs roaming at CHF.
Playing Pearce at FF last year was a big surprise for me. I think JL is plenty creative enough.
Be really interesting to see if he has an impact pre-season. Probably lacking the run Longmuir wants, but still could be handy depth. It's Brodie

Pretty sure it’s Peter Bell with a whipIs that Valente behind Lobb?
He must be wearing high heels too.Pretty sure it’s Peter Bell with a whip
Will has good hands though, looking at the midfield the run should come from Brayshaw, Serong.Be really interesting to see if he has an impact pre-season. Probably lacking the run Longmuir wants, but still could be handy depth.
Chesser joined WC yesterday, but he is from Albury/Wodonga, so may actually be nsw.Due to Victoria being an extreme risk rating for some time I would be betting that Karl Worner has not made the trip over yet. Probably unable to travel until Feb 5th but this is just my guess.
On the very positive side, notice that Erasmus is right next to Brayshaw in the picture and I can assure you he has been following him around as well before Chrissy. He wants to debut round one no doubt. How exciting!
he drove to WA before christmas, already gone through quarantineChesser joined WC yesterday, but he is from Albury/Wodonga, so may actually be nsw.
What can I say, my memory's shot lolIt actually wasn't my comment about Longmuir keeping the forward structure by playing a 200cm player, but it does look like that was the plan. And it also wasn't my comment that he was trying to be creative playing Pearce forward. That was Scham. I am disagreeing with it being creative and as you and Walkingwounded indicate quite likely not intended to be creative, more a practical solution.
My only real criticism of the move was that Pearce is injury prone so I didn't like the idea of playing him in an unfamiliar role. As a defender you can straight line contests much more than you can as a forward. Forwards also get physically targeted by defenders way more than the other way round, and I'd keep Pearce away from that until has re-established himself.
Anyway... How about Boland eh!
The basis of winning football is conservative. Most players want clarity about what they should be doing. Harvey confused the players. I think a conservative coach with a group of good football brains around him, especially forward coach and midfield, is a good combination. But football throws up new ways to win and lose every season. What can I say, my memory's shot lol
I guess if JLs gameplan ends up being a real winner via a strong structure/method, we'll probably only need to make conservative changes [emoji106]
So true. If Ross hadn't been such a pig head and was brave enough to have tolerated and listened to creative assistants it would have been a lethal coaching setupThe basis of winning football is conservative. This great to see. Our list management has handled the availability of on field mentors beautifully over the past few years. There seems to be a transition happening right now from the old guard to the new especially in the area of mentoring. On the very positive side, notice that Erasmus is right next to Brayshaw in the picture and I can assure you he has been following him around as well before Chrissy. 6 foot 2 in the old scale. So no shrimp.Hard to be sure from the angle but Sturt really does look tall

Just need MJ to play 300 games and win a Brownlow or two to really rub salt into the wound now! Were all their supporters as disappointed in person?
Enjoyed reading this. A little surprised that Brayshaw, Serong and Young are heavily profiled but Darcy omitted. There's at least some chance he breaks into the AA ahead of all of them and is probably our most important individual player, and performing well ahead of where he should be at his age.Restricted Content - The Mongrel Punt

I wouldn't mind he does a Walters and rotates between HBF and mid. Especially if we can fast track the development of the new kids. Only problem with that is I actually believe Fyfe has another brownlow in him so playing him at HBF may prevent him from achieving that.Fyfe to the hbf. NOW we're talking creativity!
Agree. Needs to push his average beyond 1 again.I wouldn't mind he does a Walters and rotates between HBF and mid. Especially if we can fast track the development of the new kids. Leave him in the middle to maximise his impact, when he’s not in the middle he should be on the bench having a breather. He gave up valuable time to fast track Brayshaw and Cerra and look how that turned out. With Fyfe, Mundy, Brayshaw and Serong we have a fantastic foursome that would match most midfields in the comp. This is the year to unleash it and see how far we can go.I wouldn't mind he does a Walters and rotates between HBF and mid. Especially if we can fast track the development of the new kids.
