Enjoyed reading this. A little surprised that Brayshaw, Serong and Young are heavily profiled but Darcy omitted. There's at least some chance he breaks into the AA ahead of all of them and is probably our most important individual player, and performing well ahead of where he should be at his age.

The aspect that I think drives our optimism is that there is a development layer underneath those players which is deep, talented and focused. Most critical, that includes Logue, Chapman, Treacy and Amiss who may provide the basis of a spine, or support for the incumbent KPPs.

The other characteristics that drives optimism in the purple ranks relates to speed and character, both of which are facets of almost all recruiting. They present points of difference from the past, represent a defining game style which so far has been in search of clarity, and speaks to a longer vision and a stronger ambition of a club. We can see where we are headed, and we can see the progress.

He says this is only part of a larger preview for paid subscribers, presumably Darcy is included later.

Didn’t make sense to me he’s comparing the loss of Cerra to the possible benefits of Clark. We replaced Cerra with Erasmus. He’s the one taking over. Clark is a separate piece of the puzzle. That’s without even mentioning Johnson who has similar attributes to Cerra.

Agree - although we will have to keep reminding ourselves that Erasmus and Johnson have 4 years less development than Cerra!

Lyon had a problem with outside run, skilled based gameplan.

RTB did the best with what he had in that department, Stephen Hill had some very good years under Ross. What were the other options for outside run - Crozier, Sutcliffe, Sheridan and D Pearce?

Crozier has to be my biggest disappointment from that era, thought he could really be something.

I think Lyon stifled the flair of a lot players during his time at Fremantle. Crozier, though an average player, did, when allowed, show some flair. He has shown some of it at the Bulldogs. But still an average player.

Lyon recruited D Pearce and Bennell for this role, he then ruined S Hill’s career by bulking him up to play half back.
should have left Hill alone and Bennell at Gold Coast

Hill was bulked up because he was getting brutalised by taggers.

MONDAY BUT NO SIGN OF MUNDY

David Mundy headlined a list of absent and injured Dockers as Fremantle returned to training for the first time after a brief Christmas break.

The veteran Dockers is facing a delayed return to training after sustaining a significant ankle injury in the Dockers’ final training session last year.

Mundy has been required to use crutches and could be in doubt for the start of his 19th season at AFL level.

The Christmas break wasn’t enough for a few other Dockers to ease back into training, a selection of Fremantle players managed through Monday mornings training session.

Joel Western, Luke Valente, Josh Treacy and Hayden Young all started training in the rehab group, eventually progressing to jogging laps.

Midfielder Caleb Serong wore an orange cap, indicating the rising star should be avoided and treated with care by his teammates.

Key forward Matt Taberner also warmed up with the main group before joining the rehab group to continue his build back from off-season ankle surgery.

FYFE’S RAPID RECOVERY

Nat Fyfe’s new facial hair will dominate discussion for days to come but Fremantle fans will be just as happy with the massive step their skipper has taken following off-season shoulder surgery.

After being trapped in the rehab group late last year when the Dockers returned to training, the captain looks to have made significant strides in recovering his shoulder strength and mobility.

The two-time Brownlow medallist started training in the main group, warming up alongside his teammates before heading to the far side of the oval to build his running base as his teammates started contact training.

But the biggest sign yet Fyfe appears on track for round one came in the rehab group, the captain putting his shoulder to the test and flying for overheard marks.

Fyfe was completely comfortable with the extended range of motion, a significant improvement from pre-Christmas when he was restricted to marking with one hand.

INTENSITY HIGH FROM THE OUTSET

There was no easing back into training for Fremantle.

After an extensive warm-up, the Dockers quickly moved into a contested ball movement drill, pitting two evenly matched sides against each other as they aimed to transition the ball down one wing.

After spending the pre-season block before Christmas in rehab, Fremantle’s first 2021 draft selection Jye Amiss showed off his strong hands, the key forward out marking second-year defender Heath Chapman.

The intensity was high throughout, forward turned midfielder Liam Henry showing considerable poise in tight as he pushes to cement a new role on the wing.

While Michael Frederick looks to have recaptured his pace after his 2021 season ended with a serious ankle injury.

I caught the final hour of training today, and let me say before anyone gets their hopes up for more information, it was the first day back from a 16 day break, so they took things rather easy today - even though the session went for 2 and half hours.

I counted 29 players on the track, with a small group of players training in the rehab group which were Joel Western, Luke Valente, Josh Treacy and Hayden Young, whilst Fyfe and Tabs just ran laps.

No sign of David Mundy, however it does appear to be a standard 3 week ankle roll recovery time according to regular training watchers down there.
However they will most likely give him until the end of January before he starts back into full training again.

The players have all returned super fit and healthy, especially Sean Darcy who looks lean, mean and ripped. Fyfey looks really great too, however he has lost his upper body conditioning and muscle definition.

Rory Lobb trained fully and was in great spirits, so he seems cleary happy to stay here if you ask me.

The players eased back into training with some light ball work and goal kicking practice, along with a few match up drills. Then the session ended with repeated 100 meter sprints.

Usually the guys are bit rusty at this time of the year, but the skills seemed pretty good to me.

I saw Noddy take a fantastic mark against Griffin Logue on the western side wing, which drew a huge round of applause from the public gallery.

So before I get anyone's hopes up too much, let me just say that I left training rather happy today.

Make what you want out of that.
