Henry thinks he's pretty good. When in actual fact he's just your average run of the mill player. Nothing wrong with that, it's the fact he was a high pick.
Yeah it is the pick, I think he's going to be good, in fact I know he is, but if we'd burnt Carlton and let them have him for pick 9, which he isn't worth, it wouldn't have been the end of the world

Does he though?
Every interview I’ve seen of him he seems level headed and professional.
He is a highly skilled outside player that’s still got plenty of development to come

I didn’t mind paying overs and moving back in the draft after the Henry deficit so much once we got Chappy with our first pick last year.

Henry showed brief glimpses of class on the wing last year but didn’t get much opportunity away from the forward line. I’d be surprised if he ends up being a bust, there is a sh*t tonne of potential to work with there and he’s got a professional attitude from all accounts. It’s also been noted by several people that he has a very good tackling technique.

One thing that has really stood out for me watching our games live is that our small forwards are rarely waiting at the back of the pack for the crumb. Noticed it a number of times this year, thinking why was no-one there to take advantage of that spilled mark? This is partly why players like Henry haven't been able to show their pace at AFL level IMO, because he's been positioned elsewhere. Is this because Hale was a ruck/forward as a player so it wasn't even on his radar as a coach? Have they practiced it at training over the last few preseasons? Has anyone noticed it this preseason?

Bring back the crumb. Hopefully LeCras and Graham are already on to this.

I don't see an issue with a player being sure of himself and confident in his abilities, if he wants to celebrate his goals then who cares? We need a bit more ego and confidence in this team, who cares if it's when we're losing either, a goal is a goal.

He is better than an average run of the mill player. His problem is his hunger for the contest/get his own ball/aggressiveness is below required levels at the moment.

If he automatically got 20 possessions a game he would be one of our best players.

Hes just a kid still.

And the kid has a terrific set shot. If he can get a few assists from the wing/half forward and take a mark or score a free kick inside 50, he's on his way to being super valuable to our scoring woes.

Another piece of the puzzle

He didn't actually cost us that high pick though.

I think sometimes people forget that and think the alternative was we could have used that pick on another player instead.

I think in time he'll be our Cyril Rioli. Rioli used to have games where he hardly touched but you would have thought he had a stack of it.
His involvement with our scoring chains will increase this year.
If you want average run of the mill players, go support the Eagles.

I think Henry has a super high ceiling, but a “terrific set shot”?
Not so sure about that. I can remember him missing some absolute sodas last season. At the MCG in round 1 v the dees he ballooned a set shot miss from 18 m out directly in front at a crucial period for us in the game. Also missed a sitter against Carlton I think it was from a similar position later in the season. In fairness he’s clearly not alone in this club, but the only players we have that could be called terrific set shots are called David Mundy, and thats it.
Treacy and Sturt look pretty decent but early days.
the rest? Wouldnt put my house on any of them to kick 8/10 from 20m out directly in front.

I think Henry is a good point of difference for us.
when we start competing, we can be confident that the likes of Fyfe Brayshaw, Serong will front up every Game with 25 plus disposals at the coalface and scrap hard for everything.
we can also rely on players like Luke Ryan to Do his usual outstanding job down back and Darcy to clunk marks around the ground and dominate the ruck.
But sometimes you need something a bit leftfield to break open a big game, a moment of magic from a player that might not be a key structural component of the team as much as the guys I mentioned but is more likely to be a match winner.
Henry can be that guy for us I reckon. X-factor I suppose you could call it.

That's certainly what I was expecting when we drafted him. Hopefully he can develop to that level

I think we’re in for a treat this year. My money’s on Chappy to be the biggest improver from last season. It’s just a gut feeling but I think he’ll get a rising star nomination (or two). He’s gonna give us a lot to smile about. [emoji16]

The only way to get two RS nominations is to get them in different seasons.

Given the eligibility criteria (must be less than 10 games before the season) I very much hope he only ever gets one RS nomination.

Genuinely think he’s very close to our best young talent tbh (obviously hasn’t shown it yet - bare with me a season or two). The more games we get into him the better. Special talent with a great attitude - Very very exciting.

Henry is 20 ....another solid pre-season is all important

Plus with a forward line that will have up to 3 marking targets available ...should be far more contests and with that Henry can come into his own,

I'll judge Henry on his ability to hit the scoreboard and apply defensive pressure.

I'd be looking for 15 + goals in the season and really upping that tackling pressure.
