Surely it would be in our interests to snaffle this guy?

The Treacy before and after shots were incredible.
I don't think he's doing anything unique really. I'm sure there's a tonne of personal trainers out there that can offer similar workouts.

It’s more diet, supplement then anything. Anyone can do the work, it’s away from the gym what’s benefital.

Great motivation. But gee the headline and comment about Canning Vale gym…
We have a professional world class facilities at HQ. Yet the lads are going to a home gym. Looks unprofessional
The competition is in the phase prior to the professional athletes having those setups at home, they aren't paid enough yet but eventually it will be normal for players to live together in large houses with dedicated gyms stacked with the best equipment - currently it just costs $250,000 too much but when they sign and receive a bonus of ten times that we will see just how professional bodies can perform.

Couldn't the club find a gym equipment sponsor to supply that kind of thing if it was what they wanted?

Training together is a big plus.

As I understand it, there's also rules that AFLPA put forward relating to how much time they can spend at the club. I know coaches have moaned about this when they want to work on skills but training on fitness and structure prevail.

Perhaps this is the reason?

Pretty easy. Get an gym equipment sponsor. A few of the guys room together so perhaps have housing with larger garages etc.
Surprised clubs haven’t caught on to this given the pandemic last two seasons. Players couldn’t access gym nor running during the lockdown in 2020.

Maybe - but it’s interesting to reflect on him getting these results from an 8 week block with pro athletes that have just spent 40 weeks under the close supervision of their club fitness staff.

I’m not involved with pro sports at all but I wonder if the players’ in-season nutritional requirements would allow them to do a body transformation like Treacy and Darcy have managed in the off season.

The style of training that they do in season and most of pre-season doesn’t really allow them to change body shape. More maintenance and recovery between games and building that fitness base in the pre-season. The 8 weeks they have away from the club are really the only chance a player has to change his body shape for the year. As mentioned above think there is pretty strict rules on the amount of times they can go into the club during this period from the players association.

Dale could get a garage drafted up and added to one of the houses the boys are “minding”.

The off season allows players to train differently to in season.

Cycling is a great example. It is widely known that doing heavy leg weights benefits cyclists in both endurance and raw power output, but they will only do heavy weights when they have a break from events because they need time to recover from a big gym session.
So the off season before pre season is the perfect time to smash weights as a pro athlete, they simply can't do that in season. They can't even do it during pre season when they are training cardio and skills.

And yes they do weights all through the year, but it's worked in as a small part of a big all round program.

If you want to change your body, you gotta do it in the off season.

I wonder if there are any regulations in place preventing players from going all out under club supervision? Health and safety act stuff and such. That's one conclusion for the difference in results. It can also be they're just back from off season, though I'm aware a bunch have been training early. How did Treacy look in the last round last year? He would've been running and gyming it up for the whole season up to that point.
