Actually, Eagles are. But, it's certainly an area we need to imrove.

We were dead last for tackle differential which is even worse (-10 on average!). I would trust Kiara Bowers to lay a tackle more than any player on our men's team.

You can throw Clark and Henry into that mix as well.
It's even better than that. An article on AFL website from October 2021 used the Telstra Tracker and found "Fremantle had four men in the top 12, with Travis Colyer, Griffin Logue, Michael Frederick and Joel Hambling all in the upper echelon of AFL speedsters."

Travis Colyer 35.39km/h
Griffin Logue 35.35
Michael Frederick 35.06
Joel Hamling 35.06
Brandon Walker 34.63

Back in 2018 Alex Pearce was our fastest player clocking in at 34.2 km/h. To put that in to perspective - it's the same they recorded for Hoskin-Elliot, Dan Butler and Lauchie Weller, and faster than Johannisen by .6 of a k. It wasn't slow, it's just that we have more speed demons now.

Clark is super quick.

There is a clear undertaking to make us a quicker team - which makes sense considering we play half our games at Optus (hopefully).

What I don't understand is how they spelt Hamling correctly in the list but 'Hambling' incorrectly in the bulk...

Quick Google search says Clark has been up to 35.24 km hour back in 2019.

...so has Ethan Hughes

I love seeing Pearce win a one-on-one by bringing the ball to ground and then just picking it up and sprinting away. He’s got some serious speed even after his leg injuries. I’d be surprised if Hamling is generally quicker than him.

Agree about the lack of goals from midfield. Real Contenders all have lots of goal kicking mids. Cerra for all his good points had pretty ordinary record in terms of scoreboard impact.
Fyfe is still our biggest threat as a goal kicking mid despite his problems with accuracy.
Cerra?? He set up so many goals it ain't funny. Anyone thinking he's not much of a loss has no idea.

The game is called FOOT ball for a reason.

Definitely a loss if we don't find others to fill the void Mundy will eventually leave but in the short term, if we have someone who is one or more of being more accountable (pressure and tackling), production (more disposals), speed etc and others on the outside (ie wingers and half forwards) play more of a role kicking i50 then I don't think the loss of Cerra will be that great.

We've lost one of our best kicks i50 but there is the potential to gain in all the areas that were Cerra's weaknesses. With our three remaining best kicks i50 being over 30 (Mundy, Colyer and Walters) we'll still need other players stepping up though. Hopefully Walters, Sturt, Switta, Henry, Freddy, Tucker, Aish and Western can all impact far more in link up than they did last year. And I'm also expecting the revised game plan to have far more attack from our half backs in Clark, Young and Chapman. And Crowden is as good a kick as anyone i50... just needs to get his hands on it more - will be a big bonus for us if he can step up.

Don’t get me wrong I rated Cerra very highly. I know he set up plenty of goals with laser kick passes.
But he was one of the worst set shots I’ve ever seen at freo.
For some reason he would turn to jelly when faced with a 30m kick between the posts. That’s what I meant.
He’s not a player who will kick 25 goals a season from the midfield.
If he manages to add that to his game we are talking a potential Brownlow medallist for Carlton.

Bell said he just had soreness (from his pre-season workload -> quads) yesterday so wouldn't be available for the practice match this w/e but should be ok for the following one.
We shouldn't be playing any injury prone players. So Mundy, Switta, Pearce, Hamling, Sturt, Lobb or Tabbs. We have nothing to prove in a preseason match.

What's the point of playing pre-season games if it's not to give the B22 (plus some) the opportunity to put into practice what they've worked on in the pre-season against proper opposition? We'll be shooting ourselves in the foot if there is a player we think will line up for Rd 1 that is left out of the games against WC because we're worried they will get hurt.

You could potentially make a case for Old Father Time given he's played more games of footy than the rest of the team has had hot dinners, but the rest have been so starved of competitive minutes that these games are absolutely crucial to having them cherry ripe for the start of the season.

If we would play them Rd 1, and they're fit, they should be playing the scratchies.

Mundy isn't injury prone. The longest he has been unavailable have been when David Hille landed on his leg and an exercise bike snuck up on him.

We need our players match fit under controlled conditions, so I don't care if we pull all those players out after the second quarter and we get steamrolled from there on - the players being match fit will mean they are less likely to get injured during the season proper.
