We possibly shouldn't assume that the collective wisdom here on bf necessarily reflects the club's plans.
Don't know about that.. looks pretty legit to me.

Not just a KPF, showed he could be a dominant defender as well. That would mean Jsos would get in the way of Charlie and Harry?

Has plenty of tricks, again quicker and more agile than Jack

If we lose Gov and Marchbank, Himmelberg is a great get

I think you severely underrate him

Absolutely Himmelberg would be a quality get as a free agent. I would dispute the $600k figure quoted around here. Would absolutely command $800k or possibly more in a competitive market. The bloke is a proven key forward, probably comparable to McStay in output. He proved last season, he is an elite interceptor down back and that would be the attraction if we were to target him. Very much dependent on the status of McGovern, Marchbank and possibly Kemp as we go through the coming season.

He is a quality player who would be a great get for any team. Realistically though, if our KPP stay fit through the year, we could find more appropriate ways to spend any cap we may be able to free up.

Early days but I really think Ben Mckay might happen. It's just my oppinion, don't go nuts at me any stray Roos supporters.

Think it'll come down to money. With Weiters on good coin down back, I don't think we can really afford to be splashing a lot of money on another key defender. If McKay is getting offers of $700k or more, I don't know that we want to be matching that. Also, if the assumption is that we move on from Gov, and that Williams is facing an uphill battle coming back from an ACL, then the key requirement for the backline is another mobile third tall and/or an elite distributor rather than a gorilla-tamer. We could probably work it - McKay on the key forward, Weitering/Young handing off between the second tall and loose intercept roles - but it may not be the most efficient allocation of resources.

There's talk of Mason Redman going to Adelaide, if that pans out then I'd be asking the question of Tom Doedee to see if he'd be open to a move back to VIC. Both players are restricted free agents, you know Essendon will be dicks about Redman so Adelaide will probably need to trade. Essendon are also the kind of club who would lose their minds over signing the Gov brothers even if it flies in the face of what their list strategy should be. MGov to Essendon, Redman to Adelaide, Doedee to Carlton. Balance it out with some picks. Essendon can sign JGov as a free agent and market it to their heart's content while they fall in a heap again. Probably too much work, but would be a fun one to see play out. Hell, if Adelaide are into Redman, can probably just get into Doedee's ear regardless and try to pry him out as an RFA before the trade period. Not sure what money he'd be looking at, but would have to think it'd be less than McKay.

Probably more likely to look at some budget options though.

There's Ratugolea from Geelong who is out of contract this year and always seems to be right on the fringe of their best 22. Versatile, can play anywhere down the spine to reasonable effect. Would cost peanuts.

Could also try and use the Hewett/Newman connection to Sydney to try and pry someone out of there. Rampe is a free agent and still quality - could be a good pickup for a flag tilt over the next couple of years. 32yo though, so purely short-term. Melican is another that would interest me - has had his share of injuries, but put together a full season in the ressies for the Swans last year after getting squeezed out by the McCartin brothers. Only 26yo, and wouldn't cost much.

He's more a third tall forward, but I'd also be keen on Amartey from Sydney. Good size, moves well, can jump, can mark, long and generally pretty accurate kick. Could try and bring him over and "Jones" him into a defender, or look at swinging JSOS into a defensive intercept/distribution role and playing Amartey as the third tall forward. Another who would cost a token pick. Might be redundant if we look at Lemmey as a possible starter in the next couple of years.

Depends where he wants to play, pretty sure he played mostly down back in the second half of last season, looked good
I think for the coming years we probably need to be a bit selective with good value trades and free agents, as in Hewett and Acres. If we get the impression TDK and/ or Gov heading elsewhere then maybe crank up the interest in Himmelberg. As things stand he probably takes too much of the cap.

Can't see us chasing himmelburg if we keep TDK, doubly so if we keep mcgovern, even on a reduced contract

Another player I've liked for some time Miles Bergman looks to have taken a step this off season. Only a couple of scratch matches but has definitely bulked up considerably and looks like an AFL player now. Good skills and a flexible player. If Port has the disastrous season which I'm expecting them to he could look at moving closer to home back in VIC.

With that said, think we would be better off spending money and trade capital elsewhere - Himmelberg and E Hollands. But if he becomes available and Austin pursues him I certainly wouldn't be unhappy. Will be a good player for many years to come imo.

does everybody realise that Alex Mirkov is going to be a huge weapon for us.... Think of the improvement he's made In a mere 2 seasons ... And he's already a very good tap ruck & a decent kick ... And with incremental experience and specialist training he's going to be very special with the obvious height and athleticism [ for a big man] massive standout advantages
Agreed, Mason Cox keeps on getting picked. Must give anyone over 210cm some hope.
