Am I being harsh thinking this draft looks deep without the absolute cream in it? I'm probably judging too early but while I think there is a lot of A grade players, if you wanted to compare it to 2019 as the other recent super draft, I reckon it will fall a bit behind. How many in this draft do you think will end up being preferred over Rowell, Anderson, Serong, Jackson, Young, Pickett, Day, Green, Warner and Georgiades (there's even another very good tier in Ash, Worrell, Weightman, Flanders, Bergman)?

Is it more 2019 is more a potential draft GOAT with 2001 and shouldnt be compared to?

Speaking of 2001, FOS is a Bartel regen.

I think he’s got every bit the ceiling of anyone you mentioned there as he’s got plenty of filling out to come when you see how his brothers were built in Victorian local football. He’s already put on 8-9kgs since last year.

I picked him up in Fantasy draft this year and yeah, he looks fantastic. Great round out to the Roo's midfield and could be the best from this draft when it's all said done

Superstar(s)
Pick 17 Murphy Reid

I suspect Sam Lalor, FOS, Jagga, Levi, Langford, Shanahan, Tauru and Faull can all join this category in years to come. Murphy Reid is comfortably gapping the field presently IMO

Guns
Pick 1 Sam Lalor
Pick 2 Finn O'Sullivan
Pick 3 Jagga Smith
Pick 5 Levi Ashcroft
Pick 6 Harvey Langford
Pick 21 Luke Trainor
Pick 30 Jobe Shanahan
Pick 41 Riley Bice

Looking Good
Pick 8 Tobie Travaglia
Pick 9 Leo Lombard
Pick 10 Alix Tauru
Pick 11 Xavier Lindsay
Pick 13 Isaac Kako
Pick 14 Jonty Faull
Pick 15 Joe Berry
Pick 16 Bo Allan
Pick 25 Sam Marshall
Pick 29 Lachie Jaques
Pick 31 Josh Dolan
Pick 33 Jack Whitlock
Pick 40 Harry O'Farrell
Pick 50 Charlie West
Pick 51 Sam Davidson

That's my personal read on the draft, which I think is pretty remarkable considering this wasn't all that long ago

Yep - Reid in 2026 is the club house leader - FOS, Langford and Jagga in the closest chasing pack.

FOS and Reid might go head to head next week which will be a great watch.

If you are including Tobie Travaglia, Leo Lombard, Josh Dolan then you are absolutely including Angus Clarke if not Zak Johnson as well

I watch a lot of football but admittedly haven't seen much of those guys - however just looking them up and reading purely their statlines I'd agree that they are absolutely worth of being considered in that same category. Sorry, I wasn't trying to denigrate any specific players or clubs I was just going based off of players I've observed.

Hamish Davis also looking good, has really grown this year.

Davis having a very good year. Hoping Allan improves and sure he will but Davis is probably tracking better than Allan at this stage. Shanahan and Davis 2 very good picks from that 2024 draft for West Coast.

all good mate, im an Essendon supporter and last season was a tough watch. Couldn't imagine anyone else bothering to tune in

I think Lalor deserves to be in those chasing names. Has frequently been close to Richmonds best mid.

Murphy Reid ---> 2019 complete crop

This was on 2026 year to date. Lalor hasn’t received a single coaches vote. Lots can be added to the potential list to join the group above.

For mine:
Reid
gap
Fos
Lalor
Jagga
Langford

Top 3 all very happy with their pick but Murphy Reid just looks so unbelievable.

Can't believe Murphy Reid was Hawthorn's pick 14.

Many dated that pick and Freo ended up putting a ring on it

Hawks -> Blues -> Eagles -> Richmond -> Freo

If Eagles were not so pig headed about 2 1st rounders for Barrass, we likely kept that pick & they kept Pick 3. Reid would have been Godsend for our mid setup. The kid's footy IQ is off the charts.

How would you have kept the pick? If we were willing to just take 14 for Barrass you still don't end up keeping it, you'd have traded it for Barrass.

No, I am assuming you do the deal that actually happened which was

Barasss + F3 <-> F1+F2+F3

Which would mean we don't have pick 10 that we used to pick Cam Nairn last year(+ added GWS & Saints 2026 2nd rounders)

We traded Pick 14 for blues F1(pick10)+F2. The F2 was used in a trade to get to pick 22 which we used to get Schubert.

If Nairn or any of Schubert or players we get the 2026 2nd rounders turn out to be gun players, one part of me will feel less salty everytime I hear about Murphy Reid.

There's absolutely zero chance we would have accepted a future first if you still had your present one. Weaker draft, strong likelihood of a worse pick, and having to wait a year to get the pay-off for losing a top 2 kpd? No way in hell. Hawks knew it too, which is why it was traded out.

Langford is a great prospect but there is a caveat - I’m not convinced his ground ball is that of a great midfielder.

He likes space and being a link in the chain, but he can be sluggish on the deck and doesn’t have much in the way of evasion/fends.

Obviously plenty of time for him to improve. Love his work up forward - he is an elite mark for his height and has great goal sense.
