wasn’t the concept of gather round is for “most” matches to be played at the same venue.
That is certainly the ideal, as happens in the NRL. However our matches are simply too long to make this practical.

That would however be rectified by eliminating prior opportunity and paying last touch out of bounds. This would result in less stoppages with less time on a result. We see women's matches squeeze into 2 hours now... Men's matches could certainly fit inside 2 and a half hours with this model, meaning you could schedule 3 matches on the same ground in one day.

I am sure that the people of SA are (not) excited about another Lions vs North game. LoL.
Sorry to our SA Lions supporters who are excited for any Adelaide games...

I mean, we’ve experienced the full spectrum of feelings / emotions with my Brisbane Lions playing in South Australia ;)

There’s been some horrible lows of course, but I mean there’s honestly been some great memories of Brisbane winning at Football Park, Adelaide Oval & Mt. Barker Oval against the teams we have faced over there.

Also, now living in Canberra these past 2 years, at least we are 2-0 at Manuka Oval.

There was a great comeback against Port in the pouring rain, IIRC we were around 40 points down at one stage.

Bit disappointed we miss out on Mt. Barker. Better venue than Norwood.

Mt Barker unironically ruled. Fun local ground feel, close to the wineries in the hills and hahndorf.

Will be doing my best to go to gather round again this year and might try get to one of the two games at Mt Barker for a repeat.

We could do gather round in Brisbane and play the Power v Dogs game at Yeronga.

Also, I don't think it is a coincidence that we've been fixtured against Norf again, and for a fixture during business hours (last year was the saturday early game so not a ratings bonanza either).

It's not a good fixture tv or crowd wise anyway AND it means that the coaching matchup between Fagan and Clarkson is as far away from the spotlight as possible. Making no comment on accuracy of any allegations or getting into that in this thread, but bet the AFL is not unhappy with the thought that no one will be watching our fixture against them.

2008 was the year, which we came back from 40+ down to win in the final quarter, was a bit too young to remember that day.

Remember the first time I went to watch my Lions play as a 7 y/o against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium in 2010 and that was the day I truly fell in love with Brisbane.

Sure, this club hasn’t been the greatest team to support for a while as a child, but us SA Lions supporters have seen some decent results in the past couple of years in Adelaide (maybe not this year) and we also saw the women win our only AFLW premiership to date, which was an amazing experience furthermore.

Also, there’s a pretty decent following here in Adelaide for Lions supporters compared to other interstate clubs.

I am sure that there is a ground in Toowoomba as well...

You bloody whippersnapper, I was 49 that year, oh the memories of my glorious "youth".

Maybe this time Fages can come up from behind and give Clarko the bear hug whilst unawares 😂

The 2008 game is on YouTube in full and absolutely worth watching. And rewatching.

Honoured to be mentioned as a future mod on here but hopefully you and the rest of the moderators have many more years in them at the top job cause I still need to find my path in the real world before committing myself FT on here :thumbsupv1:

Seems to be shaping up okay so far.

Avoided an adelaide side in gather round - tick

Early start to the year - extra bye - tick

first game against another side that had a late start to pre season - tick

Would be great if that first perth games is eagles. such a waste to play them at the gabba.

The two things i always look for are the games we are almost certain to lose given our history at venues and getting good sides at the gabba

So hoping to avoid as much as possible - Geelong at geelong, dogs at ballarat, hawthorn in launceston (surely we won't lose at the mcg again!), adelaide or port in adelaide (2 losses last year would have really dented our confidence)

Hoping to get WC not Freo at perth - the latter has given us a lot of trouble there

And the other major factor is what games you get at the gabba for the 12 teams you only play once. 6 of those games will be at the gabba, you want the tougher teams at the gabba and easier teams away. We will play probably half of the best 8 so if we get half once, let's say it's Dogs / Dees / GWS / crows, we won't as many of them at gabba as possible.

perhaps this is stating the obvious but i feel as though people get a bit carried away with who you play twice - where we play teams matters a lot more for us i reckon, given we are interstate, get sent to dodgy venues, and just went 13-0 at the gabba

I don’t mind getting Geelong in Geelong.
They are ripe for the picking and we need to get a win there sometime.
