I just watched vfl grand finals. My comments on Hollands.
  • He is a step up from Dow or selecting Kennedy, Hewett in the same side. A walk up best 22 player in our side
  • Two way runs, tough footballer.
  • He appeared 75% inside and 25% outside but that might be finals football
  • Hollands disposal has more penetration than Hewett or Dow. He is a faster, more dynamic Kennedy.
  • My questions.
Is Hollands really an onballer and not a high half fwd?
Is Hollands disposal that good? Is he really the player that draws the lead by kicking low and hard 40m passes into the fwd line?
I didn't see silk like Jack Martin, Rankine or Rozee, does he have it?

Bottom line on Hollands he is a massive get for us, a 10 year onballer that is the dawn of a post-cripps world(provided he is fit). His floor is a quicker version of Matthew Kennedy, his ceiling is Adam Cerra level but a huge upgrade on the 23 games played by Dow and Ed Curnow.
We definitely need some burst speed from the stoppages. We also need a forward/mid. Would it work having Hollands and Cerra rotating between the forward line and the midfield?

Three things that we need to tick off to go forwards next season.

1. Kennedy and/or Hewett come out. Add a fast two way running mid who applies pressure, gets hands on the footy and can run from stoppages with the ball.

2. Add a high quality forward/mid to the side.

3. Rotate Cerra more. His tank is not elite, leave him on the ball all day he blows up. He's very good when allowed to rotate and be more of an impact player. He also has hamstring issues and does not need to be flogged. He's a dangerous forward and would be ideal to rotate with another player through there.

Could Hollands achieve all three needs in the one hit?

Dow and Fisher will be good players without being superstars wherever they end up. That includes us, providing they have a spot and be used correctly. You don't have to have superstar players in every position to win a flag, you just need a well structured side where everyone plays their role to a high standard. Would not be at all surprised is SOS is after one or both of them. They finished the season well. Fisher at 25 finally found his position, Dow at 23 finally matured would be good pickups. Just hope we can get something in return that leads us to filling our needs.

Yes, has to be a Power Mid/Fwd with footskills though (Dusty, DeGoey type) . We have enough Grunt Mids and no real 'gamebreakers'

Definitely. Need better running over the board, both pace and two way. Particularly defence and onball. We are a borderline top 4 quality team but the next level is a whole different kettle of fish. Need that run to get there. That's what the contenders have that we don't.

A Dusty or DeGoey type would be ideal but finding one is the hard part.

A couple of players with some speed on the outside.

Feel if we can blaze from the CB Charlie kicks 80 and H kicks 65+

LOB, honey and phlip and a couple more. Fill the spots.

A couple more tough trades at the table and we’re away.

Want Jaxon in.

Success is in our DNA.

Every teams adds 2-3 players a year.

North Melbourne added Logue, Tucker and Shiels.

What matters is identifying what is your advantage and strengthening it and your weaknesses and mitigating them.

We need better forward half connection to convert our strength in the contest into more goals

The difference is that these two or three new players will come in a strong Blues team - that’s why Acres & Hollands made a strong impact in 2023 :D

We actually need a midfielder who has:
1. Speed on the inside
2. Good/quick decision making
3. Good penetrating kicker

Would be ideal if that was one player but obviously hard to find….someone like a Zac Bailey, Chad Warner, Errol Gulden, Zac Merrett, etc.

Maybe a pipe dream but would be awesome if somehow Zac Williams could become that player.

Crisp and De Goey. Explosive and attacking midfielders who hit the scoreboard.

Wouldn’t mind an athletic running defender like Idun or Quaynor as well.

Elijah Hollands looks like another fwd we can throw in the mix as well. We can’t sit on our hands here.
Williams and the real Sam Walsh and Harry are bigger additions than anyone will have

Wait a minute, you have a guy that can't get regular games for GC pencilled in as a 10 year onballer and displacing Kennedy or Hewitt straight up? I am all for optimism but you're not usually an optimistic type IIRC. Are you feeling OK? 😁
