We are definitely positioning for some deals and picks.

Talk yesterday was we are looking at improving our draft position and also targeting some specific players.
Money not a big issue as mid year we were strongly targeting Flanders from GCS until he resigned. We have also signed many players on base deals. Cook and Co have addressed our SC issues

This year is about adding quality depth. It’s seen as our weakness. Some key people are very excited about the 2 Irishmen we signed. Many clubs chasing them. Names like Khamis Fullarton also mentioned

Hollands is definitely on the radar. Gresham still a possible. Crozier if he gets delisted we will look grab.

Dow & Fisher to be traded ONLY to strengthen our position. We would be okay if they stayed but preference is picks.

We are looking at a couple of VFL type players to trial over pre season

6-8 changes look to be the range with 3 draft picks and the rest trades, Mature rookies etc

Usually I would press like but great read...warms the heart

The very fact, that Frampton and a couple of other Collingwood players are premiership players, makes laugh and cry at the same time.s
Frampton nullified Andrews for 3 qtrs. Great recruiting and coaching. Is Voss lateral enough to develop Young like that? Frampton has a premiership medal for a reason

Role players are vital. I know Young has weaknesses but he is still young and can play so many roles that are hard to fill. Good list player and if he can improve could even be better

They're out there. Plus we are officially destination now. Austin's done a full pre-season, now it's his time to shine.

Happy to trade players to improve our best 22. I think this is where we are at. We have a great list but it does have some holes in it. Too slow on the inside and at half back to compete with the better teams of 2024. We will have to focus on that and getting our rotations up and of better quality in the midfield. That means a forward/mid comes to mind. Can we fix the pace/agility issue and the forward/mid issue with a player who is high enough quality to lift us up a level?

That will be the question I think that we are all going to be asking. For that I would trade a good player. Dow, Fisher, Young or one of our big bodied mids (not Cripps) to bring in someone of quality who can tick those boxes.

Gresham has had injury issues holding him back, he's at an age a lot of players get to and overcome those things. Think he fits into our side as a big upgrade on Fogarty and probably Cuningham as well. Can see us chasing him. Nippy forward/mid. I think he would be a good get, walks into our best 22 IMO.

Hollands. I haven't seen enough of him. Another tall big bodied mid is not what we need but is that a good description of him? If he's a two way runner and he can go forward and he plays at a high enough level he probably pushes out one of our existing big bodied mids. Leg speed and agility is not the only issue on the inside for us, it's also two way run. He might give us that and a forward target.

Is it possible we go into 2024 as with Hollands and Gresham both taking a forward flank and both spending time in the middle? Taking over the roles Cuningham and Fogarty were playing. If they go well it changes the dynamics of our team. Then where does this leave guys like Cotterall, Fogarty and Cuningham? Depth? Trade?

The grand finalists and GWS are teams with short nuggety quick little blokes in their forward line and midfield. Those sorts dominated the grand final. I think these sorts of players who have pace, agility, tackle well and are dynamite with ball in hand is what we need.

I've been happy with the job Austin has done, happy to back him in and let him manipulate the list. More speed, agility and intensity and we contend that little bit more.

Yet he earned his medal yesterday, wasn't just a passenger. Broke even with OMac and took a few clutch grabs. Thought he was v good.
Cox was one of their best. Not many ruckmen can take a mark like he can, most are just there for the taps.

OMac monstered Pittonett last week, him getting to place the ball and send it forward for them was a massive reason why Brisbane beat us. Cox is tall enough to compete with him and that was huge. It took away a lot of Brisbane's clearance game which is a massive strength of theirs.

Cox would be bloody awesome in our team. If Mirkov can learn to catch the ball we would be laughing.

We have Motlop & Durdin who I rate. Owies IMO got found out in finals for lack of tricks. Cuningham the same. Fogarty is a worker and role player more than a damaging small forward.

We need dangerous options under McKay & Curnow

I’d be looking everywhere. Gresham is talented and worth a go. Do we look at Liam Ryan who is only 26. Fantasia we could land for free and is 28. Issue is his body.
Toby McLean is available but not much different than Owies
Brockman would be good but apparently determined to go back to WA
Kai Lohman I would chase
Anyone else?

Frampton only played because McStay got injured. Young was playing a role for us during our winning streak when we had injuries. Young is similar cheap situational depth in my opinion.

I rate Motlop and Durdin as well. Both are developing still. I think Owies, same as Curnow and the rest of our forwards struggled in the finals because our ball movement went down the toilet. I think the poor connection between the half back line and the midfield to the forward line was a huge issue for us.

If you don't run with the footy and move it quick and direct in the modern game you can't score and our forwards were left to do their work in the middle of the oppositions press all the time.

Owies is a little limited but he does kick goals when we move the ball well. Forwards are very much a gauge of how well your team is moving the ball.

I think there are definitely upgrades to me made in our forward line. Those little blokes need to have a level of danger about them. Fogarty can't kick the ball and that hurt us in finals, missing targets and goals are not attributes a half forward needs to have. I think he's on borrowed time. The fact he could come in and play a role we didn't have, that forward mid role improved the team but he did it at a low level.

Durdin getting injured sucked for everyone because he's a quality player. I'd like to see him take his fitness to another level and start having some time in the middle.

Collingwood got Hill for nothing from GWS. There are plenty of quality players out there who are doing poorly because they are at a club with a poor coach or they just haven't developed yet. Plenty of forwards who are struggling because the team is no good or the coach isn't any good like this.

If I knew the lists of these other clubs better I am sure there would be players there. If they are there I hope Austin is all over it.

Liam Ryan in a good team and in our team could work.

I think you are right, we do need better and quicker players under our big forwards. Better, quicker and good users and the forward/mid role tidying up.

Lohmann has re-signed to stay at BL’s.

Under Austin we have brought in Boyd Cincotta O’Keefe the 2 Irishman all through Rookie or Mid Season picks. Acres Young Hewett for bugger all

If we are good enough there is quality out there to help improve our list

Young is good depth. He and Durdin are backup for Weitering. However if it came up that trading him would result in an improvement to the best 22 then you do it.

Teams will look at Young knowing he can play the key position defensive role and is in a good age bracket.

We could afford to let him go because of Durdin and possibly Lemmy coming on a little more.

Here’s looking at you Sydney Swans in your search for KPD, introducing L.Young.

Also entered the fray with P.Dow by reports.

If it improves our list I’m all for it

Re: Lemmey I have watched a lot of reserves live this year and at times he looks amazing. Has all the attributes to be a gun KPP. Issue for him will be consistency. Effort and what is between the ears is his weakness at the moment but still young.
O’Keefe on the other hand has effort and has some mongrel in him. I reckon with a good pre season he could play next year if needed

Is Lemmey going to be a KPF or KPD?

I think our forwards, particularly Charlie, can tend to be too stagnant themselves and call for the 'markers-up' pass in the pocket instead of leading hard at the carrier or into space.
