Did not expect the Kennedy stuff earlier this evening. I’ve just thought about it a bit more. I agree, If Kennedy is expendable and allows us to gather important pieces to have better team balance (small fwd, half fwd, KPD, dynamic mid), we should allow him to look elsewhere. Out of the three mentioned by Cleary, I don’t want him to go, I value him in our squad. But for me, he doesn’t start in the middle as our number one inside mid, and won’t be as influential as a half forward specialist either. I guess it makes sense to look at a move for him.

The great part is he is contracted and someone won’t be getting him in for loose change basically. I’m getting the sense we are making some moves and are shaking things up but we need Vossy to also be able to not be stubborn, and play a more modern quicker, aggressive by foot game style. Especially if the main target is Houston, who is lethal with his kicking. As I’ve said before, it’s a bit of a waste otherwise to get a player like that in.

And history will tell you that one of those guys is probably a bust and hopefully one of the other two is a gun.

How were Dow, SPS, Obrien, Cunningham, Stocker, Philp projecting?

All first round picks wasted. It’s still very much a lottery
Disagree. Clubs that don't nail top 15 picks are doomed, if they don't have an academy. Yes you'll cite Geelong as an exception but drafting is crucial. Your listed failures say more about the recruiters choice, than the importanc.e of early draft picks. Stocker, Philp, cunningham were drafted at 19 & 20 23 not 11. I would trade 11 for Alir or Sam De Konig but not Houston. Houston will play some good football but over the journey port are likely to win the trade.

Need to find spots clearly.

1. One or both of Young and Bam Bam gone - they must have a legitimate KPD lined up (not Haynes). SDK?
2. Surely Fantasia must be moved along... certainly before Owies. I sense Rachele.... Durds/Mots - see Kemp/JSOS? https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/adel...chele-faces-the-axe-no-coincidence-c-15787750
3. JSOS or Kemp - decision end of 2025 perhaps?
4. Petracca for Bam Bam - I'll accept (as much as I love Matty K.).
5. Would love Houston - a lot of folk here underrate him oddly - he's hard as nails too (multiple AAs says it all). And Saad and Newy running out of time....

Switkowski, to me, is a very poor man's Matt Owies....

Different types of players. Switkowski is regularly in the top couple of the league amongst small forwards for pressure acts, tackles, tackles inside 50. Owies is not that type of player but hits the scoreboard more.

OK. If we accept this as the new norm, the please explain WTF Fantasia is still doing on the list. Has contributed in no way and I'd rather keep any one of the 3 that have been told to look elsewere.

Fantasia is worth peanuts.

He won't last past this current contract. Explain how getting rid of him and paying him out will improve anything other than freeing up a list spot?

That mix is A ok if Cerra and Walsh aren't carrying injuries....
So, that also depends on Cerra being fit and getting over the worst of his soft tissue injuries (extremely lucky if that happens), and him playing consistently in the one and only position he can - on the ball.

Seriously who gives a **** if Martin leaves, tremendous player when fit, showed his potential last season when he finally strung a few games together…
His body is buggerd, our team and list needs to move on if we’re going to challenge for a flag, one of half a dozen that need to be moved on…

Cerra's only 24...
Petracca-25%
Houston-80%
Rachelle-5%
These probabilities could easily change depending what happens to the status of other players.
don't mind the 25% on CP....

meh.... we've got Fog to do that....

(Owies a fair tackler too - so say the numbers)

I'll take the list spot

This is the only thing I can think of that makes any kind of sense of the Kennedy news.

Back when Voss started he supposedly told Kennedy that the side had room for 2 inside mids, and one of them was Cripps. Kennedy made the second spot his own, until injuries elsewhere sent him all over the park this year.

IMO he's still the 2nd best inside mid in the team. Walsh is more outside, Hewett would be equal at best but probably not quite, Cerra is more outside, Lord nowhere near proven.

But if someone like Petracca is in play, then yeah, Kennedy would have to make room.
good analysis.

True, and it would be a shame if we did trade him, but also, that kind of thing can’t come into your decision making.

I doubt it happens anyway, just that if we do trade a contracted player, Chugga is one that would make sense.
We need to get productive, we have a very heavily talented spread but one paced inside midfield, if we aren’t prepared to make some changes to our midfielders…
along with our other forward and flank deficiencies as well, including our lack of developing KPD’s then we are not only not strengthening our needs immediately, but the last five or so years we have poorly identified with our obvious posistional types of need long term…

If Trac is still gettable, more than Kennedy will be making room...

If you follow Sydney and Geelong, you rebuild on the run, you walk and chew gum. If you rebuild on the run you don't trade a first for Houston.
Of course you do (plus or minus steak knives), unless you need that pick for Petracca....

History shows us what you get at 11 is a total lottery as to whether they become a player.

Houston is at the peak of his powers - he gets us into top 4 and a flag tilt....
