I've watched every game this season thank you, I've just thought his opponents have been horrendous during those games. Brisbane without Neale looked insipid, North were good for a quarter and a half where the goals were flowing freely through Freo's defense and Adelaide looked like Wooden Spooners for much of last night with Tex looking a shell of himself.

If he comes out and dominates H and Charlie I'll obviously give him his kudos but from what I've watched I'm not worried about Pearce in the slightest. I'd be much more wary of Taylor, Liam Jones, Tom McCartin this season on exposed form.

His opponents being horrendous has nothing to do with Pearce shutting them down?

I guess we'll have to differ on the value of Pearce this season. (I hope to god next week, I am not proven correct)

Out of necessity, Kemp will likely come in for Marchbank

Moir might debut in Adelaide, but unlikely

Don't think any of the other listed players running around yesterday in the VFL will come in or are ready (with the exception of Cincotta if required)

While Ollie has been slightly off this year, he would rack up a ton of touches at VFL level, more than Binns
I watched a bit of Moir yesterday. I think he's a bit further away than many on here think. Lovely skills but has a bit of work to do on his ability to impose himself on the game .

That's the beauty of not having to rush young players and being able to give them the time that they need to find their legs.

Young is the one to put the time into. Shut him down as well as Clark off half back and you reduce their inside 50 efficiency and potency.
These are the two keys for the Dockers. Young with his kicking skills and Clark with his run and carry.
Hoping Fogarty can shut down Clark not sure Hewett is suited to a hard tag on Young, might be a little bit of Cerra keeping a close eye on him.

I really like the idea of Young. Allows Weitering to play more third up role and allow for intercepting etc and I like Weiterings kicking. I’d like to see him play a more Tom Stewart type role

Young can play lockdown on KPF.

I’d also like to see Kemp developed more as a Fwd/Ruck doing Silvagnis role this year. I don’t believe Kemp is a natural defender

With Young, Durdin, McGovern, Marchbank, Weitering we have enough taller defenders at the moment
Amiss 196cm
Treacy 195cm
Taberner 198cm

I’m leaning towards Young myself for that lockdown role on probably Taberner or Amiss, i don’t regard Kemp as being capable of a lockdown role…

I agree with you on Kemp developing up forward, I’ve been of this opinion for a few years, I’m not sure about the ruck would have to see him trialed in the reserves, plus I’m really liking Harry’s impact in the midfield which you’d think he’s only going to get better the more he plays that role…

Marchbank was clearly underdone, that was plain to see, the selection was a bit of a head scratcher, needed to come back through the reserves…

Agree to an extent. Around the ground he’s been ok. We do miss Pitto’s taps to advantage in the centre square. We have not been dominant in centre bounce clearances in all 3 games.
I do like his work around the ground but I haven't seen anything much to suggest that he's an actual ruckman. To me, he's a pinch hitter who can jump high but that's it. Can he actually develop into a ruckman over time? I'm not so sure about that.

I'm hoping that O'keefe is the long term answer as far as a ruckman goes for us but he is years off it. We need to be patient as he develops in the reserves.

We’re emerging as a great team again…after 20-25 years of being in the wilderness.

I know it was only (a young) Roos but our focus and buy in on “team” defence since midway through last season is reminding me of Carlton of the 80s.

Bit more work to go yet but it’s becoming a joy to watch again.

8 touches 2 tackles no scores … what did he do well ? I was at the game and didn’t notice him much which is uncharacteristic for him … did he have a specific shut down role perhaps ?

No he didn’t. He struggled to get into the game offensively and defensively. A number of times I saw Fisher, Sheezel, McKercher run off him. Simple

I like Cottrell but so far this year he has been poor and if we are to be a flag threat consistent performances like his at the moment need to be questioned

He provides cover for our slow midfielders by running back hard

Sorry but that is crap and an excuse for poor form

I support defensive workrate as much as anyone (Fogarty was awesome) but at the moment Cottrell is offering little either way

I watched him live and closely yesterday and unfortunately he looked lost. If anyone thinks Cottrell is offering the defensive work he did last year they aren’t watching.

Covered defensively, stifled their run, created options forward

A number of times he got first hands on the ball and wore a tackle in dangerous areas for North

Voss loves him, fit, great positioning, sacrificial running.

Spoke with some recruiters and player managers during pre season. Asked about Moir. Fair to say view is mixed. Varies from sublime talent to not up to it. Some seem to think he could be a star. Question is over effort and mental toughness. Some didn’t rate him at all

I watched him over pre season. At times he does things that make you think he’s a mix of Darren Jarman and Ablett Snr and then he goes missing and lacks effort

I honestly have no idea how good he will be but if effort meets talent he will be a star

He’s a star. I think he can be more of a weapon if released from No.1 forward like Andrews or Stewart or Sicily etc

Just my take

I don’t compare Weitering with Sicily and Stewart (and Lever and Ryan) who are third defenders who specialise in intercepting. They can’t stop key forward like Weitering can. Weitering is more comparable to Taylor, May, Andrews all who are capable of defending one on one, intercepting and are good with ball in hand. He is already absolutely elite. I’m not sure it is fair or realistic for people to expect much more from Weitering.

Alex Pearce is five times the defender Moore is. Just had rotten injury luck over his career - started off the year incredibly well

Pearce is just a rung below the top 4 I mentioned above and is exceptional one on one but he can be a liability with the ball in hand. Moore routinely gets goals kicked on him and is becoming unreliable with ball in hand. I don’t think he is top 5 defender anymore.

Gee I hope it’s Hewett to serong

I think you want to stop either Serong of Young more than Brayshaw.
I get people wanting Serong stopped first. He racks up more possessions and ‘can’ be more damaging at times.

I think Serong maybe too nimble for Hewett and that’s why I thought Brayshaw maybe Hewetts go to.

Brayshaw yesterday had 21 disposals at 90% efficiency. Where as Serong went at 67% and Young at 78%.

Imo, break down Brayshaw and his high disposals efficiency and I think it will destroy a lot of their drive.

Pick your poison on those 3 but limiting Brayshaw to 10 or so disposals and them being rushed and lowering his DE imo would go a long way to crushing their launches forward. Along with bringing our turnover game right into play.

After round 7 we’ll have a better indication on where we are at.

I see us 5-2 at worse.

I think we are travelling okay

IMO we are a long way from where we need to be. Why?

We haven’t had close to our best 22 available
I don’t think our coaches know our best combo yet
Our combinations especially around the middle and forward aren’t clear
A number of players like Williams O.Hollands Cottrell Marchbank Boyd E.Hollands C.Durdin Fantasia Kennedy have so much improvement in them to come and haven’t played anywhere near their potential, YET
We haven’t yet played 4 quarters of our hard contested football we played last year

If we can keep winning with improvement coming we are in a great spot

I’m talking about a role NOT current position. It’s a “role” I have seen him excel at before. Your comment doesn’t address my comments
