We also had our football director tell members to support another club.

So you have to wonder how we were operating when recruiting players

Our PR and what Club members say to the media has been disgraceful IMO.

We need to send those that interact with the media to a camp on the Gold Coast. Maybe they can take the social media team with em.

Even without the family links, if you take away all bias, as a young player would you rather be at the Crows or the Hawks? If I had no internal bias and wanted to win a flag, I know where my chips would be going. When you're at the Hawks walking past 4 premiership cups that start with the year 20... I could see how a sales pitch on the benefits of the AFC might seem a little... misguided.

Day grew up supporting Hawthorn and Gold Coast. His grandfather Robert Day played in the Hawks’ 1971 flag and his cousin Sam Day has played 147 games for the Suns.

Growing up his grandfather, who was also a centreman, always made Day kick on his left foot.

“When I was a junior, he really tried to teach me how to play midfield and it's been great that I’ve been able to get in there as a Hawthorn player now and I think he’s really proud of what I’ve become,” Day said.

“He was really big on having both sides of my body in terms of kicking in handballing. That's probably been the biggest thing which has really helped me, just being able to get out of trouble both ways.”

I’d have to check, which I won’t, I wonder how many of these close losses are us coming from behind when we finally played attacking footy only for us to fall short?

Could also be the clubs putting the cue in the rack once they’ve built a decent lead.

Why check - when you already have your negative assumptions locked in!

But lucky for you I checked. And surprise surprise - you were waaaaay off the mark.

Maybe you can shift to old mates thoughts that the good teams didnt try against us.

Was absolutely horrendous during the Trigg years from what I was told, though I have not heard any of those sorts of rumours around Nicks or Silvers. Reid has the reputation, but I think part of that may have also been around our previous pay structure and we seem to have modernized that a bit over the last few years.

I find the Reid bit a bit hard to believe given his profession (Talent Manager with ESP now TLA for over a decade) before becoming our list manager.

Whats that got to do with arrogance ??

See that's how you know the article is garbage.
How's that, his older cousin Sam Day played for the Suns until this year when he joined the Lions.

Pretty obvious he supported the Hawks through his grandfather's history with them and then when his cousin got drafted by the Suns he followed them.

Plenty, no way a bloke with his history of having represented some of the stars of the game and many others for over a decade with Elite Sports Management is going to be arrogant when dealing with players he's hoping to procure.

I'm 99% sure the entire concept of "being a suns supporter" isn't real.

For me it shows that we aren't off competing with the very good sides. We had the talent to match them, and we are closer to success than a 5-10-1 W/L suggests.
No we weren't.

The good sides were usually able to cruise against us getting early matchwinning leads.

Delusional to think we weren't far away.

Carlton were the exception not the rule.

Categorically false.

Our best was good enough to really match it with the best sides in the competition in 23/24. Not really a debate.

It's almost like you are ignoring the actual results.

The premiership ladder told a fair story.

You are just coming up with spin.

Reid has the reputation, but I think part of that may have also been around our previous pay structure and we seem to have modernized that a bit over the last few years.

The arrogance piece might be true or it might be bullshit. Unfortunately we won't know.

We might have offered him a deal that was below what his market value was and we insulted him resulting in his camp saying we were arrogant in our negotiations.

Either way, not too fussed about the reasoning as with Dawson, Rankine, Peatling, Cumming and ANB all choosing to come here - we obviously haven't had a problem with recruitment since the end of 2021.

Ha ha ha - it's almost like you made an assumption that was proven categorically false and now you are pivoting. Doesn't sound like you at all mate.

The premiership ladder told a fair story.

It always does. And I don't think I have suggested otherwise.

Tell me more about these good sides that were able to cruise to match winning leads and take their foot off the gas? When did it happen in our 16 games against top 4 sides (plus Brisbane) in the past two years?

In our 16 matches against top 4 teams over the past 2 years - in 12 of them we either won, drew or lost by less than 12 goals. In another we were down by 2 points at 3/4 time. In another we were down 24 at 3/4 time - drew close but lost by 19 points.

Which goes to my original assertion - We matched up pretty damn well against the best sides of the competition and our best was football was pretty damn good.

You are better off joining your buddies and suggesting that the good teams don't try against us.

Our best was good enough to match it with their... best? Worst? Token effort?

Do we really think top ranked teams were near their grand final intensity for matches against us?

That they brought the heat for us at the same level as they would vs Geelong at the MCG for instance?

Plenty, no way a bloke with his history of having represented some of the stars of the game and many others for over a decade with Elite Sports Management is going to be arrogant when dealing with players he's hoping to procure.
Youve got to be joking dont you ??

You've never met an arrogant lawyer, or real estate agent ??

Generally probably not, but that game against the pies at the G two years ago was an absolute cracker.

Justin Reid has been neither, not sure what you're on about, he's either been an AFL player manager or an AFL list manager since 2001. í.e. dealing with footballers and football managers exclusively for near on 24 years..

Oh come on. The assertion that these teams went half assed against us like they were playing North in 2023 /2024 during the Sunday 4:10pm time slot at an empty marvel stadium is absolutely laughable. These close games were all important for our opposition.

Rd 7 - 2023 - Crows 4-2 just won 4 in a row. Pies 5-1. Packed Adelaide Oval for a standalone prime time game. Pretty sure they went in big.

Rd 15 - 2023 - Pies fighting for a top 2 spot up against 7-6 Crows coming off a bye and fighting for finals.

Rd 19 -2023 - Melbourne a game and a half inside the top 4 against Adelaide a game outside the 8.

Rd 22 - 2023 - Brisbane fighting with Port for a spot inside the top 2. Against Adelaide a game outside the 8.

Rd 9 2024 - Both Crows and Brisbane are 3-5. Crows have won 3 of 4.

Rd 17 2024 - Admittedly our season was cooked, but Brisbane was sitting in 8th position fighting for their season.

Rd 21 - 2024 - Our season was cooked. Geelong were 4premiership points above 9th place Hawthorn.

Genuinely find it hard to fathom why people can't recognize that when we played our best footy we actually matched up quiet well against the best teams in the competition.

I will await a 3rd excuse now since "big lead and took off the gas pedal" and "the other team didn't really apply themselves to the match".

Hes effectively a salesperson, fighting for his own client telling everyone how good they are. Its his job.

Either you dont know what arrogance is, or you arent paying attention.
