Each to their own. I read it as having something in the back pocket if something happens to Fin or Ed over preseason and we need the extra body.
As it stands I feel like Eyre and Sof are the two who are most likely to come in as areas of need. Eyre as KPD depth and Sof as a potential Howe replacement from the sounds of the way he plays.
I just don’t see the club having that much faith in a player that hasn’t played game yet and looks to need a fair bit of development and a player that’s played three times in two years two of those appearances being as the sub. Especially with Adams gone I think the clubs wants a midfielder that can step in if any of our starting mids, especially Mitchell go down. So far Macrae hasn’t shown he can do that and Allan is more chance of playing on flank than in the midfield at AFL level.

I also don’t see Eyre as a need unless we move Frampton to ruck depth.

What Hustwaite brings to the table is inside his head mostly. I've havent supported the recruitment of these types - bianco etc - but I recognise that the club is valuing leadership more at the moment because it was one of our competitive advantages over the last two years. With the loss of taylor, tom mitchell is the one wood...and macrae is probably his reserve. Neither is quick. You would think that a lot depends on competiveness. Evidently, this bloke has it. Maybe they'd like to see him operate over the summer with a list spot as a carrot.

Jen, if we take Hustweight, I will go from elation to scratching my head in disbelief. Not an AFL standard player and I hope we are just putting out a thank you carrot
I think people are underestimating Hustwaite quite a bit. Not saying I would absolutely take him with one of the 2 SSP spots but he is a lot better than being spruiked

Us looking at hustwaite, we just might not think we have enough big bodied, tough mids who can win the ball.
Fin and Carmichael is where things lie.

Or it could be a nice way of saying thank you, by paying him $1,000 a week to train ? Rewards him more as they are limited to under the VFL cap

If you're looking for reasons for having him other than his actual play, how about demonstrating to the 1st to 4th year guys what it means to try your gutts out.....because i would think he is going to try to the limit of his capabilities to get that list spot.

in 2018 he was the stingrays co-captain and 17 of his team mates got invited to the combine....but he wasn't. I wonder what happened to those 17. Anyway, if the coaches tell him to charge into a pack, I think he might go like a runaway train. It might be an interesting watch...

The love that is being shown to Bytel from some posters is strange tbh. I’m fully expecting him to be overlooked in favour of getting Fin and Allan game time. Unless something drastic happens to one of them over the course of preseason, I just don’t see the need for him.
Bytel is a cheap insurance policy for a long term injury to Titch and when Titch is fit, he allows us to maintain a similar setup in the VFL as we do in the AFL - that setup will suit the development of Fin and Allan and hopefully assist in their transition into the senior side - I wrote yesterday that Bytel also has potential use as a run-with player

We might not be as positionally targeted as everyone is assuming. It might just be a collection of best available who we are interested in due to AFL traits and potential.

Did anyone else hear Josh Gabelich on sen say that Pies are open to trialling 2 more players post Xmas?

Is there a limit as to how many they can trial?
Two per list vacancies. So 6, but we have the potential to swap blokes out and in, so could look at more than 6 during preseason.

I disagree. Eyre had a very impressive year at VFL level this year. He is 198cm and and big body, can mark and defend and is agile. Could easily lock down full back allowing Moore to do his thing.I know Dean is on the list as well but he hasn't been reliable as yet. Eyre is also a very good kick. I prefer him to Frampton as a defender. Just my opinion.

I don't think we'll be using the SSP for best available - think we'll target current list weaknesses.
