It’s sad the AFL limits clubs to small psychological divisions. Players would be making much better choices off-field if supports (psychologists, etc) were increased.

Collingwood didn’t have many issues this year with De Goey, nothing really significant from anyone else bar one player. Not too sure what that player’s relationship with Jacqui was but he did make contradictory comments about not being able to be himself when she openly says they’ll accommodate all and the players agree.
Should be outside any cap

He seems to have good hands and reads the flight of the ball well.
Agile for a big bloke too.
It's a bit of a head scratcher as to why Essendon delisted him.
Let's hope it bites them on the bum!

Do some people really think that there are these undiscovered AFL level CHF's out there that we can just invite along to train?

They're the rarest commodities in the football world.

They're even more rare than a compliment from sideswipe.
Agree - so It's more an issue of foresight and shrewd evaluation of potential to redeploy a player, into another position eg Mioceck from defender to fwd. Howe from fwd to Defender.

We need another inside mid as cover for Titch - adding Sullivan is bad news for either CH or Bytel, as we're only likely to take one of those three and I wouldn't be surprised if we drop either CH or Bytel off our SSP trial list by the Xmas cut-off.
Agree but all things being equal I'd take Bytel who's almost 10cm taller, given size is important for an inside mid.
Sullivan would have to have a substantial edge eg pace, or Bytel a major defciency, for the converse.
So keen to hear thoughts on relative strengths/weaknesses of each.

He was a genuine liability in the GF.
Didn’t have the greatest game in the GF tbh. Inexplicably tried to kick a banana from 45 metres out that predictably fell short. Poor kick forward to Bobby which was to Stacevich’s advantage. And didn’t really do a lot else. Lachie Schultz will be a big upgrade imo

IMO pace was his issue which was a huge disadvantage, given the emphasis on same in our game plan - there's plenty of players in the game at around 178cm.
That's what I meant. His lack of pace for his size was an impediment to his progress. I didn't explain myself clearly.

That decision to go around the corner was utterly bewildering. He was never going to kick it and he has shown himself to be an outstanding set shot with the old drop punt. We had real momentum and he stalled it with his dumb decision. And I was screaming out for the drop punt before he took his kick.

How do they limit this spend? They have minimum spends and amounts above that are exempt from the cap or act as a deduction.

We kicked 18 points for the game - many with drop punts. Not sure why there's so much focus on one kick that missed by a foot.

Cox talked about it on one of his podcasts that there are limits.
He's wrong. Here's some detail

Priority Policy Areas – Player Healthcare

Minimum expenditure levels apply on medical and mental health & wellbeing resources that cannot be reallocated to other areas of the Football Department. A series of deductions are made available for expenditure over and above these minimums to incentivise Clubs to invest further on eligible resources without Soft Cap impact.

The eligible resources / expenditure to meet this level include:

  • Player Development Managers
  • Club Psychologists
  • Indigenous Welfare Officers / Indigenous Player Development Managers (mandatory from 2022)
  • Wellbeing Support Resources
  • Mental Health & Wellbeing programs and training

Coxy is out of date and also phrasing it badly. The AFL changed things a while ago. There's a minimum spend that falls within the soft cap. You can double that spend without any extra being included in the cap. If you want to go over that you can, but it's included in the soft cap.

This might be true but I think as a player in the system, he'd be slightly more aware of the reality of the situation and probably knows the finer details to it all.

You were given the AFL press release which directly refutes your claim. You'll need to come up with something better than "Cox would know".

Both those moves occurred post recruitment through necessity rather than planning. Both also had a history in either role.

Seems to me a minimum expenditure level is a limit.
