Trading up for Robey feels like a very Jason Taylor move. Really hope that one doesn’t pan out
Robey is no guarantee ... very risky if you are trading two picks for one ... there is no guarantee with any player this year

No, after reworking the numbers I was a little out, but not to the extent you've said.

8 & 18 from the Suns with pick 28 going back to them from the Dees I would think would be the deal for Petracca.

What I'm saying is that the Suns keep pick 18 but give up pick 7 instead with Melbourne throwing in 24 & 42 as well

Original deal:

Pick 8 = 1443
Pick 18 = 836
- Pick 24 = 621

Total cost = 1658 to the Suns

Deal for 7 & 8:

Pick 7 = 1543
Pick 8 = 1443
Total = 2986

Minus

Pick 24 = 621
Pick 28 = 505
Pick 42 = 202
Total = 1328

2986 - 1328 = 1658 Which is exactly the same as the original assumed trade

But why?

Pick 7/8 is worth a shiteload more as an asset to trade to the rest of the league for more points than 18.

Besides the fact 8 and 18 is an insane overpay for a 30 year old Petracca.

Especially given how many holes Melbourne has to fill, seems like a crazy move to put all your eggs in the basket of a bolter

And that's a bolter that tested below average at the Combine .... l feel comfortable if the Tigers take him because we have another pick to take speed with

I agree he’d go for it but not at any cost. It’s extremely unlikely. 7&8 for 2 when it cost 12 & 14 last year, 8 and 12 for 2 in 2022 etc…seems like massive over pay and if Dees want 13 back (which I’d be guessing they do) there seems not material benefit for wce.

CDT and farrow vs Xav/Grlj and Dovaston?

Yeah agree 7&8 is insane but they’ll have a lot of capital to play with either way. Just saying I think it’s a genuine risk to our prospects of landing Robey

Those who’ve watched CDT a few times , how similar ( or different) are he and Sims ?
They are of similar height and are both appraised as ruck /forwards…. Are they at all comparable?
Sims is a better mark. CDT a lot quicker and mobile.

I was there a few weeks ago when Petracca was going to gc and the rumour was McGee for 12.

But I just don’t think dees can put together a deal that satisfies wce without including an f1. And also dees love to bring in 2 highly rated kids together in a draft, Robey leaves them with one 1st rounder this year.

I definitely think JT would take Robey at 2 if they could pinch it.

It wouldn't be just 8 & 18......28 would be coming back.

Anyway, I was just pointing out that the trade of 7 & 8 is possible but it's cost neutral and agree that more points could be gained by the Suns by trading pick 7 separately. The Clarry deal will give more points to the Dees which they could add as well.

Essendon currently hold picks 21, 27 & 30 which total 1708pts, a 165pt gain for the Suns if they trade 7

T#ts?

We’re all obsessed with Robey and I do also want him, but let’s remember we already got Smillie, who was a potential pick 1. He’s a 196cm midfield beast. Wait till he’s AFL ready, we’ll be frothing.

I want Robey but we also need a gun ruck, so if we end up with CDT I’ll be happy.

What I don’t want is to trade down for Essendon, they have enough gun talent on their list and I don’t think their future pick will be very good.

I will die on the hill that Tambling was the right pick, but our player development at the time was putrid.

With Conca, FJ thought he could be an inside/ outside midfielder that underperformed in the champs playing in a midfield that had the two best midfield prospects (David Swallow and Harley Bennell who also went 1 & 2).

The logic was there. But the logic was also very very wrong.
That man pissed some picks away but you can’t blame him for Tambling other than that we didn’t make sure we had a mix of types and went two mids.

He is similar athlete to Daniel Rioli so yes he goes in the late teens in most drafts ... 20s in last year's draft as a half back flank

but he also attacks the ball like Cotchin ...

The difference with Cotchin is that Sam has played nearly all but this year of his junior football at half back not on the ball ... until this year at Coates League so he doesn't win heaps of ball but his hurt factor is huge ...

At AFL his floor is small defender with heaps of run like Dan Rioli and his ceiling is an explosive midfielder who breaks lines to get to the outside when we have the ball and when we don't he intercepts and tackles like a backman ... think Conca on Cotchin ... Grjl averages 5 tackles a game ... but watch the way he tackles ... he is ferocious.

Either way he brings a skill set no other player on our list possesses, (except Hotton of course but he is a star as bright as Wanganeen Millera).

Grjl was the star of the Combine being the only player in the last 3 years to run a sub 6 min and sub 3s for the 2km 20m combo ... which is where the game is going.

So in this weak compromised draft ... which every team will be picking on needs ... for a team that needs speed like us he is a top 10 pick as a future midfielder.
I agree with you. In a draft with no obvious top line stars it would be good to get a star in a position you’d not normally spend a heap of capital on.

If we take Kellaway in the national draft and we upgrade Campbell (we have to)
We only need to take one additional live draft pick this year
Let's see what we do with those early picks and see how we rate this draft

Ya reckon? I think they're a lock for bottom 6 if Merrett leaves, prob bottom 4.

Smillie can't play forward, Robey can/is. I don't think it means we only need one or the other.

Robey's second talent league game was much like his first, playing high half forward and impacting with his long leads up through the middle of the ground and the wings to offer an option in transition, and using his physicality to impact in contested situations. Worth mentioning is how clean/soft his hands are in marking contests, able to securely one grab on a lead at pace or through contact. As always, he hit the scoreboard with a couple of goals and was heavily involved in scoring chains for Eastern in a strong win.

Taylor is a dud

Bloke has destroyed the demons legacy list, it all started when he brought in Grundy like a moron when they had Gawn

Ridiculous move, that started the disaster they are in now

Whatever he does, you can back it in that it will be a mistake

He is the most overrated list manager out there
