While rival clubs expect West Coast to land midfielder-forward Willem Duursma and ruck-forward Cooper Duff-Tytler with their first two selections, an early bid on Dean would have a significant impact on Carlton’s draft hand.

The Blues would require 2,233 draft points to match a bid on Dean at pick two, which would swallow up their current pick 9 and push their pick 11 well into the second round of the draft.

If Dean doesn’t receive a bid from the Eagles, he is not expected to get past Richmond (picks three and four) and Essendon (picks five and six) before having his name read.

However, a bid at pick 5 would only cost Carlton 1,616 draft points – swallowing pick 9 and pushing pick 11 back only a few spots.

Carlton is more bullish on this year’s draft than some other clubs, though, and believes it can find a quality player to complement its list regardless of how far pick 11 slides back.

I do not understand the hype and if we do not pick him very interested to see when and where he gets picked.

I am very intrigued to see how others outside of those pumping him up for us actually rate him to pick and play him. He will get picked but I would love to see what other clubs actually think with their selection

In all seriousness, CDT is a talent but new ruck rules not sure how he would go, doesn't have a real high leap and not tall enough, but on the plus side, he has his agility and can play as an all-around the ground ruck-mid.

Remember Tauru?? last year. He could go top 2. North might pick him up, North might reach. Well Tauru got down to St Kilda. Tauru's marks where more spectacular than anything Grij has done on the footy field for mine, with respect.

The important thing is that our recruiters have far more information than a few YouTube highlights to go on. They've been following many of these kids for up to 4 years. They have tons of statistics and rankings to assist them plus first hand assessments.

You keep on asking for evidence all of us cannot get. You need to swallow a chill pill and leave it to people that know infinitely more than you or any other poster here.

The blues would be more likely to deal out #11 than #9 as its border line of where the Dean Pick will come in and if they have to will move #9 into something next year plus later picks in this years draft

Dean has been very underrated here. I just don’t understand why he is not considered as an early pick. The Draft hand of WC would not be cooked as you put it, if they got Dean. He is the best KPD in this draft and if you’re doing a rebuild, should be one of your anchor types selected early in your rebuild.

We have 3 older backs who in 3 years will be gone or at the very least nearing the end of their careers. Dean is a very talented KPD who is sadly not rated on this board.

For a club DESPERATE for a feel good story to take the heat off Voss and the entire club, can you imagine the melt down by their supporters if they didn't match and even worse if he became a really good player? Blues will Vontae Mack him "no matter what"

If Carlton did not match a bid for Dean, then guys like Walker next year would doubt the viability of nominating the blues. They’ll match if a bid comes early.

For what its worth, I do agree he is underrated however think it would be a poor choice for wce. Firstly let's assume they take Dursma, he probably starts as an outside player initially, so can't see him really helping wce midfield next yr. Secondly getting Dean might take another yr or two to develop (even though I'd argue he could be ready to go), also having the go home factor and pull to play for his family club which he has indicated he wants to so there is a definite go home factor. Wce pick 3rd pick likely ends up around 13 now, very good chance all of the top line midfielders are gone by now cumming Sharp robey grlj, so I don't see how they get much better initially next yr for example. They make have to go greeves (who i think could be adecent pick up for them) however they only have 2 vic metro players on their list as they seems to be concerned about the go home factor.
