The more I think about it, the more I feel West Coast will find a way to trade pick 2 to Essendon for 5 and 6. West Coast will trade another pick for sure, but which one will depend on who blinks first.

If West Coast blinks, Essendon will ask for 13 as well.

If Essendon blinks, West Coast will offer 34 and 41.

If Eagles go Duursma/CDT, then I can't split Grjl and Taylor so I'd take Robey and trade out pick #4 for pick #6 or #7 and a tasty extra treat (#21, a F2, a FF1 from 2027 compromised draft).

Let's say it's Demons #7 and a FF1.

Then it's:
Eagles: Duursma
Eagles: CDT
Tigers: Robey
Demons: Sharp
Bombers: Cumming
Bombers: X Taylor
Tigers: Grjl
Demons: Schubert

So we get Robey and Grjl, plus a FF1.

Let's say it's Bombers #6 and #21:

Then it's:
Eagles: Duursma
Eagles: CDT
Tigers: Robey
Bombers: Sharp
Bombers: Cumming
Tigers: X Taylor/Grjl
Demons: Taylor/Grjl
Demons: Schubert

Then with the #21 we trade it out for future picks for points to GC or Carlton...or if there's someone remaining we really like we use it.

I just can't see a situation where one of Grjl or X Taylor don't make it to pick #7.....so I'd definitely split #4 if Demons or Bombers were keen to jump up to get Sharp - which both of them probably are keen to do.

Brown and Trainor replace Vlaustin and Broad.

Taylor is vanilla. Reminds me of Coffield who was an early pick and didn’t make it. Vlaustin was the Vic Metro Captain and more talented for sure.
Not sure Brown has the intensity at the contest Vlastuin has to replace his position. Different styles.

X Taylor definitely has that competitiveness that Vlastuin showed in his draft year. Coffield never had that.

In saying that I think we are loaded with defenders and should look to the midfield with picks 3 and 4.

My personal top 10 from the open pool after combine:

1. Willem Duursma - clear number 1 option in the open draft. Can be put just about anywhere on the field and have an impact. Will he finally be a Duursma that actually delivers?

2. Cooper Duff-Tytler - a 201 cm ruck/forward with sub 3 second 20m & 6.20 2km time is a rare mix for a big guy and if WCE let him slip past them, we're either going to get mad offers from Essendon/Melbourne to trade up for him or we're going to get a kid who could be our next number 1 ruck and alongside Sims would form a decent ruck/forward combo in time.

3. Sam Grlj - everyone keeps saying that our midfield lacks speed and spread from the contest, which is precisely what Grlj brings to the table. 2.9 over 20m and sub 6 minutes for 2km, this kid ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to addressing a big need for our midfield mix. Not only that but he showed in his stint in our VFL program that playing against men isn't an issue as he adapted quickly and wasn't afraid to put his head over the ball when needed, then when he got it, showed his willingness to take the game on with run and carry.

4. Sam Cumming - just like Grlj, Cumming would be another to add speed and endurance to our midfield mix. At the combine he also ran a sub 3 second 20m time & 6.33 for 2km. He also showed that playing against men isn't going to be an issue for him as he averaged 17 disposals 4 tackles & 4 clearances in his 3 senior games before a season ending injury, with his 2nd game also producing 3 goals. While there may not be many fans of us taking the 2 Sams in the draft I believe opinions would quickly change once they got to show their talents alongside the likes of Lalor Smille & Hotton as part of our next generation midfield.

5. Sullivan Robey - despite what some may think is me not rating Sully with some posts I've made in recent times, I actually am a big fan of the kid who has come from the clouds to firmly establish himself among the top 10 in the open pool, some would even say top 3. All through the year the kid has shown his talents whether he was playing for Rowville in the EFL or with the Ranges in CTL. If we happen to call his name out on draft night I won't be disappointed in the slightest.

6. Dyson Sharp - drops down from being my number 1 option last month in part due to the lack of testing at the combine, however that doesn't mean the kid isn't worth taking. He was probably the most consistent performer throughout 2025 as he led SA to an undefeated National Champs title, dominated his 2 SANFL U18s game, and also played senior footy for Centrals where he showed playing against men isn't going to be a problem. Main reason I have him and Robey behind the Sams is due to their ability to add run and carry to our midfield mix, which I strongly believe our midfield needs.

7. Xavier Taylor - if we were able to snare the Dees 2 R1 picks for them to trade up and get either Robey or CDT(relax it won't happen but a man can dream), Taylor would be the player I'd love to add to the 2 Sams. He'd be able to slot into our D50 and become Vlastuins understudy for a couple of seasons. He can shut down an opponent, intercept incoming ball and provide run and carry on the rebound. There isn't much more you want from a defender in the game today.

8. Aidan Schubert - not really a need as far as we're concerned, but there is little denying that this kid is the 2nd best tall in the open pool behind CDT. Kicked 39 goals from 18 games for the year across U18, Nationals & senior footy to highlight his ability up forward. Whoever manages to pick him up in November will be getting a quality kid.

9. Lachy Dovaston - easily the best small forward in the open pool Dovaston is quite capable of making an immediate impact in 2026 for whichever team drafts him. Same may question his ranking here, but having a goal kicking small forward in todays game is a must have IMO.

10. Jacob Farrow - I've liked this kid for a while and he finally climbs into my top 10 rankings. He acquitted himself at every level he played this year averaging just under 25 disposals & 5 tackles a game at Colts level & just under 18 disposals & 4 tackles in WAFL seniors, which again highlights that playing against mature bodies early on wouldn't be an issue for the kid in 2026. Would likely start across HB early on before eventually moving into the midfield as he develops his game & matures.

Missing out from September are: Greeves Marsh & Lindsay.
Agree on the first 9 players except Grlj
He would be 9th and closer to farrow imo

He had OK games at VFL level nothing spectacular but his combine results were great
I just wouldnt cough up a top 3 pick for an outside / HBF thats 182cm and has not played any significant time in the midfield. Not every kid becomes Zac Butters and apart from Richmond having #3 & #4 he would be rated between #8-#15

I dont get the Hype
We need to get players that are true mids with power and goal kicking ability

There's about half a dozen posters on this thread who's 'hot takes' are so far off the mark it's a wonder they can even tie their shoe laces.

And it's getting progressively worse.

26 days to go....

If people are discounting Sharp because of his supposed lack of pace they should put a line through Robey too. But Sharp ain’t slow, he’s just not as quick as Cumming and Grjl.

Sharps the most proven midfield talent in this cohort over the last two years. Runs all day, wins his own ball, makes good decisions with the ball and kicks goals.

Bank him as our unexciting Brayshaw type and pick a wildcard in Robey, Cumming or Grjl to complement the power athletes in Lalor and Smillie.

X marks the spot.
Absolutely
Blair said we are building a premiership team. We will only draft kids we think will play in our next premiership
Xavier Taylor will be the first kid we take
Our backline

Brown. Balta. Trainor
Banks. Gibcus. Taylor. Grey/ O.Taylor?

I still think WC take him

I would be extremely happy with any 2 of Cumming , Sharp , Robey

Does anyone have any detailed intel on the types of players Tanner Armstrong, Daffy and Leys are? Explosive? Quick? Elite endurance? Tough? Mids or flankers? Keeping in mind we likely have a top-5 pick coming in addition to these NGA's and F/S, then if there's some speed on the horizon then getting speed this draft doesn't worry me and I'd be more inclined to favour Robey/Sharp over Grjl/Cumming types.

Sharp was spoken of highly for the past 12-16 months…but now there are queries…not sure why

FWiW - ’ve gone for the Robey Sharp combo
