Are people on the Robey train just because of the hype?
To me, his kicking is below AFL standard
The second year into a full rebuild, I am very confident we will be getting the two best available. You don't spend pick 3 or 4 (general pool picks) on half back flankers, this is where you draft high end midfielders/defender/forwards.
literally like everything after 6:10
I completely understand the 'open pool' philosophy, nonetheless, the reality is that the higher rated players are above where our picks land, Uwland, Patterson, Annable and Dean (maybe) will push our picks out to 7 & 8. Hartley is on the record (numerous times) as stating that this is a very compromised draft, he recognises that our picks aren't worth as much as what they would be in a less compromised draft. You don't spend pick 3 or 4 (general pool picks) on half back flankers, this is where you draft high end midfielders/defender/forwards.
Louis Kellaway? My perspective on list management: list managers are ALWAYS looking to identify talent that fills a need and bring it to the club using whatever surplus capital (draft picks and/or salary cap) we have available.
In the 2025 trade and draft period, that might look like this:
- Bring in a delisted young player with elite endurance to try-out for a spot on the wing. Retschko. Tick.
- Pick 3 - draft the very best talent available to us, even if it's another tall (CDT).
- Pick 4 - if we can trade back to get an A-grade flanker or small forward at fair value (usually pick 10-20) then do it. Bank the spare change for a diamond in the rough or for trading next year.
- Late pick / rookie - needs based selection of a project player. I'm guessing it will be a small forward.
We'll be spending as close as possible to 95% of the salary cap in 2026 and 2027. We'll build up a warchest to pay our players coming off their first contract, before hitting free agency and the trade table in 2028/2029 to round out the team with 24-28 year olds.
I think it’s bizarre the way peeps seem to obsess over player position as opposed to talent
Makes no sense for us to draft the best mids in this draft , even though we don’t think they will be good enough to make it in the afl
Best players available pls
Draft talent , trade for needs
If they are talented enough no matter what position they play , they will get games and make us better
More big mids with average skills will not make us better
Disagree. Best available. And there are no available mids without a key weakness or two in this years draft pool. Therefore, if a HBF, or a small forward etc. is deemed best available, that’s what we’ll take IMO.You don't spend pick 3 or 4 (general pool picks) on half back flankers, this is where you draft high end midfielders/defender/forwards.

Agree best player available
Thats why i think in this years draft which is our 2nd year of a rebuild we need to go that path which coincides with our need's and that is midfielders and not HBF's.
Just about every ranking that comes out has Grlj around #8 and Taylor at a similar level but just about every mock draft has them coming to Richmond supposedly of our 'need' or interest in a running player like Grlj or a Vlastuin replacement Taylor.
Best available at picks #3 + #4 are Robey , Cumming then Sharp
Robey and Cumming would just about complete our midfield along with Lalor , Smillie , Hotton , Seth with a great amount of flexibility amongst that group of players interchanging between HF/Mid
It just makes so much sense
Weird given all of what you wrote here that on average draft rankings (Twomey/hs/rmc/craftofdraft/smythes/pmbangers/edpascoe/dyl Alexander) XT and Grlj both consistently and on average rank above Cumming.
Maybe thats because of the games he missed due to injury and Taylor , Grlj had more exposed gamesWeird given all of what you wrote here that on average draft rankings (Twomey/hs/rmc/craftofdraft/smythes/pmbangers/edpascoe/dyl Alexander) XT and Grlj both consistently and on average rank above Cumming.
Cumming's rating has gone up since he got injured. He was rated worse when playing.Maybe thats because of the games he missed due to injury and Taylor , Grlj had more exposed games
