Your mate Tom Morris is reporting that the AFL decided to suspend Rioli for this week after he already withdrew himself.

Which, if true, is completely insipid. Only showing action once the player has basically made their decision easier.

Reminds me of that scene in Friends where they're all offering to keep Ross company for the weekend and he says no he doesn't want any of them to stay with him out of pity, so Chandler says, "Well in that case I might as well offer to stay with you."

This admin is pretty weak. But don’t flip the bird or make plane motions though

Yeah. I don't think it's legit to include the Hinkley sanction because it wasn't done as an act of virtue signalling to the general public.

Sure, many see it that way, but it had no implications of public morality. The AFL sent a clear reminder to participants, that being, players, coaches and administrators, across all levels, that there is a code of conduct to be adhered to, regardless of the importance of any game.

Hinkley crossed the line, and acknowledged he did so.

If it hadn't been such a cut-throat game, with a massive audience and Jack Ginnivan on the receiving end, nobody would've batted an eyelid at the sanction. It would have been forgotten just like the rest of the sanctions coaches and assistants cop from time to time.

I'm not backing the AFL at all, just don't think this is an example of mixed messaging from them.

But never mind, let’s give that kid a slap on the wrist though :)

Time for another argument is it?

You think someone should get a ban for a toy?

Gee sorry for responding to your post on a discussion board. I must be lost.

It was still a security breach. The kid at the SCG got a ban. Not your brightest comment

You dont get it do you

So.. it can't kill you? So it doesn't have the same effect?

Is it a security breach? I'm genuinely asking. Is there a rule against toys too? Or is that perhaps the reason he got off with a warning?

Commiting a crime with a fake weapon is still considered an armed crime in Victoria.

Who was talking about committing a crime? I asked about taking a toy to the footy.

Victoria sounds a bit soft.

Someone mentioned that carrying an imitation weapon could have the same effect as a real weapon. The intent of this statement is as clear as day, and it's a pretty reasonable one. You disingenuously asked if it could kill you and now you're reducing it to taking a toy to the football, ignoring (for some reason) that he also had a knife on him. Dunno why you can't just engage in good faith.

The context of the discussion was about taking a fake gun into a football ground. I asked the question if there's a rule against taking toy weapons into the footy. If someone can say "Yes there is a rule against it" then fine, I would agree that he should be punished for breaking that rule. If there isn't a rule then everyone can move on. I'm not "reducing it to taking a toy to the football" that's literally the context of the discussion Shotties.

I'm not quite sure I'm the one not engaging in good faith when literally the first response to me engaging on the topic was to play the man.

With a concealed knife.

Yes, there's a rule against carrying imitation guns into large public gatherings and every arena has these, particularly paired with another, real, weapon.

Excellent.

Crimes have been committed using “toy” guns before. The kid should have receive a ban when other patrons have been banned for far less. And if a gun was pointed at you, you wouldn’t know if it was fake or genuine

The way it read was that both the gun and knife were toys. If the knife was real then why was a discussion about toys even brought up in the first place?

The toy gun is irrelevant then. It then depends what sort of knife it was, if it was a hunting knife or the sort then it should be confiscated and the person punished appropriately. Was that not what happened? Might have been a cheese knife if he was a Dees supporter, who knows.

Why are we talking about toy guns? Shotties just said that a knife was taken. The toy gun is irrelevant.

You’re the one that mentioned it was a toy gun first? 😏
