Those bagging Young, Weitering was not any better today.

And dont get me started on kick sideways McGovern. Why does he insist on kicking sideways 30 metres out in the middle of the ground near the oppo goals? He gave away at least 2 goals doing this.

At least Young has a go and can mark and spoil. His disposal hesitation is the lack of confidence and really the fault of the leaders and coaches. Encourage the guy seriously!!
Weitering is a dual Best and Fairest winner and reigning All Australian full back. He doesn’t need to get out of first gear in a pre season scratch match. Aside from a 5-6 week period over 2 years ago Young has looked out of his depth at AFL level. He needs to show signs of improvement or he’ll be out of the league in 12 months time. Based on yesterday’s performance he hasn’t improved at all.

There are a few clubs lobbying the afl to reopen the SSP window before the season. Let’s hope they listen.
I hope so. The argument that it’s too disruptive to the lower leagues doesn’t fly with me. Footy is a big business and almost every footballer wants to play the highest level so nothing should stand in the way of that. To do so is restraint of trade IMO.

Bit like the Markov moment, he gets to pick who the likely late September team will be. Would be definitely talking to the Hastings Fish Shop fella, find out how much a deep fried Mars Bar costs??

Just makes no sense why you would have the SSP period ending half way through a round of practice matches. Surely you either let all clubs get a look at their SSP picks in the practice match or none of then.
I think the club needs to take some responsibility, we chose not to replace Newman and run the risk we wouldn’t get a long term injury in the coming months.

In saying that, no way we would have picked a mid

I agree, somewhat strange

I get we wanted to leave a spot open for Newman, but no side goes through a season unscathed

You take the opportunity when its there, then deal with what unfolds

We don't get first choice in the mid season draft, but we did have a choice of a larger list of players before the deadline

Feels like our main 4 mids are going to have to do an even bigger power of work than they usually do. Lost Kennedy and Carroll and now Jagga.

This is an opportunity to try some new guys through the middle or get more time into Lord. Otherwise Cripps, Hewett, Cerra, and Walsh are going to get worked to exhaustion. With injury comes opportunity and all that so I’m interested to see what Voss does. Elijah could be an option for more mid minutes.

The SSP window should definitely be extended or have clauses for exceptional circumstances. Weird that we couldn’t trial anyone against opposition before the cut-off.

Wouldn’t be for this season, you’d think.
This is where clubs had played their scratchie but then had the SSP still open to select a player, whereas clubs like (MFC & us) have lost a player to an ACL with no availability to select a replacement until the MSD.

Will fly in the face of trying to assist state league clubs by not removing key planks just before their season with extra SSP signings.
What's the difference in the mid season draft?

Issue is even if we get the exemption none of our SSP picks that missed out are midfielders. We would either be picking someone that doesn't fill that role or just picking a VFL prospect blind that may have tried out at another club.

There was a mid trying to get SSP at the dogs, Dom Brew.

If the afl open the window can we take dom brew or jai culley.

If the AFL open the window Melbourne will get a pick as well and almost certainly offer Culley given he has been training with them. He’s likely to want to stay with the blokes he has been training with. Of course we could offer him longer tenure but that might be a bit of a panic move.

That said I’d be looking at recently delisted players who still desperately want to play AFL, eg Cooper Stephens, Tsitas, Parfitt…they be a 6 month stop gap for depth…or we could wait til the MsD and hopefully Cooper Hamilton or Heath Ramshaw knock the door down in the 2s.

Taking Evans helps a little in that we could play Fog and Durdin in their natural positions as midfielders, albeit Durdin may be faced with a long stint on the injury list after Saturday. Or maybe Wilson gets fast tracked to play midfield now?

I’m starting to get that sinking feeling that Charlie is not going to come back right at all whenever that may be and we’ve relied so much on his mercurialness in the past few years.

North Melbourne, Gold Coast and Adelaide will improve out of sight this year. Pies will bounce. Freo have invested and will be stronger. It’s not a stretch to see us missing.

We needed luck and we haven’t got it. Petition to lift the curse!

I'm not too fussed about the replacement factor. I would rather Cooper Lord gets a game over Brew or Culley - then even if we were to get another injury I'd prefer Campo to get a run.

Who would you rather see run out on the G? Some workhorse from the VFL or a guy West Coast desisted versus a father son. I know what would energise the fan base and the club more.

Didn’t you say earlier that you are ‘done with this Club’

I’m done with this curse that’s what I’m done with Aph… other clubs haven’t gone through this amount of bad luck they just haven’t. Jagga Smith hadn’t been injured his whole junior career. First game in navy blue he does his ACL.

I’m done with this clubs rotten luck it’s tiring!

I get you bb.

I’m feeling the same after today’s shattering news 😥

it's why I'm not renewing this year. I just can't do this anymore

Agree, however is there is some conjecture whether Newman could actually be replaced with another on the Inactive List, if/when they went down.

Always thought it was possible but read elsewhere it wasn’t. So if that’s the case, can understand the club’s optimism (and also that NN is tracking well).

HTFU. Got to book flights, accom, transfers, food + drink just to watch a decent game. Hadn’t seen a win in about a decade (imagine the disappointment on the way home, every year incl MFC in ‘22 + Collingwood last year) but you support at every opportunity.
Edit: SF win vs MFC was off the charts!!
