2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

He has improved every single year. There is no reason to suggest he won’t keep improving.

Ed Richards was solid untill he wasn’t.
Josh Dunkley the same

I just don’t get this idea he has reached his cieling beyond mind boggling.
I never said he has reached his ceiling. I just don’t believe his ceiling is an A grade player.

He was banned from the BnF because he told the coach and playing group he was staying and then dropped a big boy what’s app text and left.

Had he been honest and genuine from the start. He would have been at the BnF.

So we were keen for him to stay and got the shytes when he changed his mind. How many players over the years have been delisted by text. Once again rules for some ...

Its not the text sigh...
Its he blatantly lied to everyone and told them he was staying upto the day before the text

And the club & list managers have never lied to anyone 😂. The point being that Joffa stated that the club wanted him gone. Can't have it both ways people.

Once you have tied up that money in a couple of good but not exceptional players things tighten up and you can't afford to pay them. Carlton was hamstrung that way and shedded players last year due to massive contracts to a small pool of players. Their stars are on top dollar and their ring ins were too. Left nothing left to chase established talent.

Losing Windhager makes us less likely to play finals and less likely to keep Nas in 2 years.
Why not? We have 5 mill to spend front loading these contracts. All.other big contracts have been front loaded to allow us to do this in the first place. Simple to work out
2 x 5 % saved 1.83 million
2025 x 17% saved 3.111 million

That's 5 mill even without taking into account
Billing and Crouch payment - guestimate 500k
Paying 105 % of the cap the year after paying 95 % - 915k
No contracts has SC increases built in could be and increase from 1.5 to 2 mill.

Last three are unknown but a possibility.

So in the next couple of years there is not more pressure on SC due to what is happing now.
In years to come we will at some time inevitably have SC issues, when we start to improve and our young guns improve, but that is a good thing because it means we are competitive.
Then it is up to the then list manager to manage it.

Also Ralph

- While there will be competition for spots in defence for Aleer he is excited to move to a club that is making aggressive trade moves and believes in its finals dreams.

- St Kilda is also in the market for Gold Coast’s Sam Flanders, but is trying to fend off strong interest from North Melbourne and Melbourne in defensive midfielder Marcus Windhager.

The Roos are prepared to offer five seasons at up to $800,000 and while St Kilda has offered four years the North Melbourne offer is more lucrative.

The Demons are determined to bolster their midfield so are chasing Windhager, but at this stage do not have a first-round pick in the national draft.
North don’t have a first-round pick either.

I am sorry? WTF are you on about? The whole Battle convo was me asking WHEN did the club want him gone considering we offered more than Hawthorn for him to stay?
Jesus Christ, you have lost it 🙄

This forum is hilarious

I remember getting howled down and told I was an idiot because I didn't think we should extend Ratten

Few of us said with TDK being offered the big bucks Nas and his manager will want more. We were told we were clueless and it wasn't about the money.

I don't know if we'll lose Windy, but now anyone that thinks losing windy while bringing in Aleer and having TDK on such a big contract isn't a good way to go will be howled down and told they're a bedwetter.

And it's the same loud mouth people shitting all over anyone who disagrees with them.

And so it goes.... on and on.

Personally, I believe Windy will be a very good footballer. Hope like hell we keep him.

Hope that's ok.

I didn’t see the game yesterday to comment.

Thought he looked good in patches against us in r23.
He was ok yesterday, the least of GWS issues, just didn't impress and looks like a gangly yearling with legs splaying everywhere while being a bit unco, with little idea on positioning.

Lets be honest here .... Windy is a B-grader foot soldier

He battles and he toils ... but he is average paced and has a questionable disposal skill set and could shortly be gazumped by a few up and comers ... especially Boxshall & Hall

So Windy goes to Melbourne?? ... does he move the needle there? .... likely not

He is your classic no mans land mid .... better than others but outclassed by the best

He is very likeable of course and he gives 100% but we need to improve our list if we want to play regular Finals football.

I would be sorry to lose him because he is decent depth and he wont die wondering but ...... we need to improve and we have plenty of other young players who in time will very likely be better
