2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

Rowan asked for a trade during his exit interview.

Ross actually shut him down multiple times. Told him he can explore Geelong but we will see you day 1 of pre season. To atleast give next year a crack.

So it’s been made clear he IS wanted - spitting the dummy out because it’s not the role he wanted is disappointing.

Whereas Steele admits he will look because of the situation but wants to stay.

That's very disappointing and fair enough. I can't believe he has been so petulant, it's not like he wouldn't be playing.

What have Geelong offered him, perhaps he is getting a few extra $$$ or other sweeteners on what we would have been paying?

Was it Andrew Mackie that held up all the trades in the last hour of last seasons trade and then 4 or 5 deals got done in the last couple of minutes

The role he wants. No idea on coin.

Ro has nominated a club.

Prepare to be disappointed with whatever deal we get for him.

That's footy.
That’s nonsense. He’s contracted, probably been front-loaded and we can refuse.
Jack Steven and many other players refused trades can attest to this.

Anyway.

I know nothing concrete.

But on Monday I heard a rumour we could be keen on Ben Ainsworth.

So I’m just keeping an eye on that

Some sick, twisted part of me wants the deal to fall through and for Ro to come back to the club even if he's disgruntled, even if it is only for the fact I can see Geelong finally not get a player in for unders on some Cotton On, brand ambassadory type bullshit.

Like I'll take nothing and Ro not return to the club in a tantrum if it means Geelong don't get what they want hahahha

I’m sure they will.

But I’m resigned to him going. I think the club has aswell considering he wasn’t part of their long term plans 2 weeks ago.

I just know Ross really wanted him to give it a crack for a season.
We can still make him do that.
Rtb probably feels Doddy is a better option. Personally I’d be happy for Muzza and Doddy to split it betwwwn them.
Or ….. Hammer may have just got a bit of a reprieve.

Is he any good?

I feel like he's been around for ages and I've literally never noticed him. Him and Fiorini are two blokes that have always just been a name on a teamsheet to me.

Marshall to the Cats.
Flanders to the Saints.
Cats 1st rounder to the suns and we keep pick 7.

Would the Suns accept this?

Buttler as a sweetener if not or is that too much?
Nah.
Tell Geelong we want say Carlton’s pick (TDK compo) and we can give pick 7 and slide back 2 spots

Being contracted he can only go if the Saints let him - if he was to go I expect something good back in return

Alright fine I’ll be the one to bring it up and ask. Didn’t Tony state Ro was going nowhere? Is this the first ever time he’s been wrong??

Unless we hold Ro to his contract which would be hilarious.
It's not really hard to see players changing their minds as more information and more meetings occur. Doesn't really mean much what anyone said, 3 weeks ago Marshall probably expected to stay.
