2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Genuine question to everyone, if Wilkie and Steele go (Big IF on Wilkie) who would be captain? Leadership group last year was those two Wood, Sinclair and Butler. It ain't gonna be Butler obviously, I think Wood will be borderline best 22 moving forward so unlikely and Sinclair doesn't really scream captain to me.

I know our leadership hasn't exactly been fantastic the last few years but losing them is a big dent in that area. Maybe Wood for a couple of years whilst they develop someone like Windy. Hmm interesting times. Could be the making of some younger leaders. Someone left field like Stocker...

I think losing Wilkie would leave too big a hole on a couple of fronts. Just cant see it happening
I think Windhager is leadership material. Hell, i think Higgins could be good also.

To me, the actual offer, was an off the cuff reaction to missing JSOS, not driven by the strategy of the List Managers, and is a long shot throw at the stumps.
A strategy to get a contracted player doesn't happen over 'the best part of a week' as reported, they would know it would cost a fortune in draft and player capital.
To hear reports they wont trade appropriate players to get the deal done would suggest this was rushed and not thought out.
1000% this.

They’re trying to save face here.
As well as trying to extend us financially after losing JSOS.
They didn’t even think about Wilkie while they were chasing JSOS.

So what do we do?
We cannot be matching what the Dogs are offering, surely?
And it really annoys me that we are in this position when he's still contracted for 2 years.
The Dogs are being vindictive because they lost out on JSOS in a "fair fight."
Surely we are not still at this point. We can keep him unless an amazing value proposition trade proposition is put in front of us.

WATCH ON AFTER BEST AND FAIRESTS

ST KILDA'S best and fairest comes on Monday night as defender Callum Wilkie and ruckman Rowan Marshall weigh trade options.

Though the Saints are not expected to budge on any move for Wilkie if he was to look at moving to the Western Bulldogs on their $4.5 million offer, the Dogs have grown in hope given they have not been knocked back despite presenting the deal almost four weeks ago.

Wilkie has two years left to run on his deal at St Kilda, as does Marshall, who has spoken to Geelong as the Cats consider the ruckman and he considers a trade request.

The run of best and fairests this week could see trade movement, with players often wanting to get through their club champion award before announcing their plans.

Gold Coast's best and fairest is on Wednesday night, with Sam Flanders expected to land on a preferred destination by the end of this week after meeting St Kilda, Essendon, Melbourne and Carlton last week.

Essendon captain Zach Merrett will attend the Bombers' Crichton Medal on Thursday night, while Charlie Curnow will be at Carlton's John Nicholls Medal on Saturday night as both of the stars attempt to leave their clubs whilst under respective deals.

Brisbane's best and fairest following its premiership win will be on Thursday, with Callum Ah Chee set to request a trade to Adelaide and Brandon Starcevich weighing up West Coast's offer.

Hawthorn also holds its best and fairest on Saturday night, although free agent James Worpel is expected to this week make a definitive call on his future and is expected to join Geelong. – Callum Twomey

Happy to be corrected.

But everyone currently gone or OOC, we assume they are gone.

That’s 9 vacancies. (Including Heath)

Incomings.

TDK
JSOS
Aleer
Ryan
Cmac/Flanders?

Tex Wanganeen (rookie)
Campigli (rookie)
Fincher
Pick 7

So, one in one out if we achieve the above and we want to make more moves.

Contracted players with interest:
Marshall
Wilkie
Steele
Butler
Caminiti
Campigli has a contract offer from the Saints VFL team

As do Lachie Voss and Bailey McKenzie (who we saw training with the Saints squad a month or two ago)

There's also a small whisper that Jack Carroll actually signed a 2-year deal with us so would be contracted for next year but I don't know if that's true or not (could be completely made up but just wanted to put it out there if anyone knows anything)

**** I hate Barrett can't listen to TR after 3.00 pm. He talks such unmitigated shit.

Fortunately for you, there is always the soothing balm of Josh "Jerker" Jenkins paired with him to make it more bearable....

But seriously, Barrett, Brad Johnson and Josh Jenkins. I cannot think of a worse line up. Two know-nothing-know-it-all's and a one eyed Dogs fan with not much between the ears. Tough stuff.
