2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Is Steele a salary dump or is he genuinely no longer a part of St Kilda’s best 23?
Not a salary dump. His contractvwas front loaded like the other big contracted players at the Saints.
Can't spread the way Lyon wants, we have Macrae who plays his role and Flanders coming in with NAZ, Hall Windhager, Boxshall and others running through the mids.
Would still keep him if up to me. Will fill your Clarry role.

Richo rates him way more than Ross ever will.

He will be the Dees #1 inside mid while their kids develop and you know what, good for him. He deserves to be playing at the elite level.

He was a star in a very dark time for our team. That final round game against GWS back in the COVID era is still in my brain.

It hasn't happened yet but I hope Jack knows that we ****ing love him.
Class, mate. Love it.

Wouldn't mind that, could we give Geelong's pick (one of the two) to Hawthorn for Cam Mac and then they can try and use that in the package for Merrett?

Clarry out Steele in is actually quite good business for the Dees I think. We owe them anyway for letting us keep NAS.
I wouldn't mind using this years and Butler for Jed Walter at the Suns now that they have JUH.

So if they are taking all of Steele's salary, you'd imagine a 3rd coming to us? Hopefully at least a F2.
Pahahaha! All of Steeles front loaded salary?

They should be giving us a decent pick regardless. 2 years on contract, captain for 5 yrs, fills direct need.

Pay up or he's happy to stay.

Am I getting peak 2021 Steele?

Still elite defensively but not a great kick and is slow as treacle.

Basically another Viney for you guys.

I'd expect he plays the #1 inside role to help Viney protect the kids for a few years.

You’re getting a guy who is an absolute competitor in close and will give you 7-8 tackles a game. Who can go forward and take a grab and kick a goal. Who can play a defensive midfield role…

…. Who has also lost the pace he had and is starting to look like a liability when the ball gets say out of a 5m radius of him.

You’d almost encourage him to get back to his 2020/21 playing weight and back him in as a bull. Just double down on his strengths.

Well, RTB has stated that he doesnt prefer Macrae & Steele in the midfield together & that was evident towards the end of last season.
This worries me, coz l dont think the pick from the Dees is going to be significant for us.
So, looking like a salary dump & devalued player.
Give Steele & a FF2 for Jake Bowey l reckon.

Western Bulldogs statement on Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s trade to Gold Coast:
‘Today’s trade means the Bulldogs’ contractual relationship with Ugle-Hagan ends and no ongoing obligations exist.’

GodDAMN thats a club with a fair bit of character, imagine saying that to a bloke drafted with the first pick of the national draft.

I know he's been an albatross for "Western", but shit how about some class?

I feel like it went unspoken just how much Macrae's form plummeted in the second half of this year. Pretty concerning. I'd rather hold onto Steele. Being a captain for a club like ours should mean something.

Reckon Steele should stay and fight for his spot, complete his arc back to an excellent role player and be apart of this next finals push.

No dramas if he leaves, but there’s a lot more glory in staying, as a former captain. I remember Geary fondly due to his final few seasons as a stalwart and guiding the team to a finals victory.
