2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

They sound like children. It's a professional sport, but they think they are so special they can make a pact and dictate where they go.
FFS we have identical twins who have never played together, lots of brothers etc.
Both are B- players anyway. Sound like they have the entitled Carlton mindset as well.
Yeh I like those sorts of articles cause you get a decent little peak at what sort of personality these guys are.

Hayward came off like a bloke with a low room temp IQ

Do you think Hayward said to Florent, "think of all the fun we could have at Carlton".

I didn't realise they are both 28 years old, Add Ainsworth who's also 28 next year. Florent is a bit part player, Haywood a half forward with 29 goals this season, Higgins kicked 46 goals in 2025 as a reference. So Carlton really just got 3 mature foot soldiers that will be there for 3-4 seasons as a stop gap. I see Voss losing his job at the end of next year.

As a comparison:
  • TDK - 26yo and potentially top 5 ruckman in the league
  • Flanders - 24yo and already had most possessions in the league in 2024
  • JSOS - 28yo, considered elite as a key back early 2025
  • Ryan - 29yo, elite small forward
Planned for both now and future (TDK, Flanders will be here for the next 6+ years). More focused and all elite or potentially elite in their individual positions.

To be fair Carlton lack some hard working soldiers. I think they’ll improve with some work horses.

I agree.

Considering how many gun players left their club, I think they did okay out of trade period.

They brought in those mature age players to stem the bleeding, maybe ensures they finish 12th-14th instead of 16th-18th.

Using Jagga Smith and two first round picks in each of the next three drafts... build from there.

Not ideal to lose Curnow, De Koning, Silvagni etc but at least there appears to be a plan going forward.

I just wonder why he chose to name St kilda. If he'd said north or west coast, would have made more sense. Hopefully nothing to do with nervousness around the Aleer deal. I'm probably over thinking it 😀 Don't really give a toss what the media say but hoping we are in the group of clubs players want to come to, not used in a throw away line context.
Because at that stage it appeared everyone WAS coming to us.
I’m not sure he meant it as a disparaging comment. Was probably just a throw away line.

They cashed out their players at high value similar to Richmond last year. Something we've been notoriously poor at doing in the past.

I wonder if they've overrated their list with 3x28yo coming in though. They'll be solid citizens and probably stop them properly bottoming out. Probably feel they still need to have a crack with prime Cripps, Walsh, McKay and Weitering.

Jeez they had a good top 6 prior to TDK and Curnow going.

He could be pinched in the rookie draft too.

lol re drafting him in the ND feels like a loophole the AFL will close next year.

We are taking the piss doing that.

Basically saying Fincher will be our only addition as we re-draft Byrnes and upgrade Hammer.

That or we are playing 4D chess and hoping another team jumps in and drafts him.

One of my mates did 6 on a flight from Sydney to Melbourne, big hairy sweaty Macedonian
I know a guy who some years ago spent nearly the entire return flight from India to Heathrow on the can with Delhi belly! Apparently he actually landed on the can and then the cabin crew were knocking on the toilet door telling him the plane was now empty and he had to come out!!

So that leaves Hall as a Cat A rookie .

Given I believe we are signing Kobe McDonald from Ireland we would need to move LOC to Var A rookie list .

Which should leave us with two Cat A rookie spots.

Can you actually use ssp signings to go on rookie list ?

who is Kobe Mcdonald?

One time I saw a guy who was proper keen for the dunny, tried to open the door with real purpose and it came off the rails completely and into the aisle… the lady inside looked a little flustered.
