Sydney's 1st pick is not attractive in a draft that lacks quality depth.
We are much better to keep a core group and make smart decisions & build around them.
Only way a deal gets done is if it is too good a offer to refuse whether that is players or high draft picks.
Bottoming out serves no purpose at all, under the current system around free agency & Academy picks very difficult to rebuild from the bottom now.
More guns means there’s less room for B and C grade players and more VFL at best types on our list. We need a much better spread rather than looking to bring in another gun player. Our depth is already a weaknessWe need more guns, not less

Cerra, we could trade from our mids then. But I'd look at returning him to a wing where in his early days he was trending to be elite.Couple of things - Why on earth would Silvagni choose to go to the Pies with a list that is about to fall off a cliff over say going to the Bulldogs where he could be the difference between them just missing finals and being a top 4 chance.
Secondly we will just get AFL compo for Silvagni - fingers crossed it is an end of first round pick at worst.
Third - if we picked up Butters I really don't see where Cerra fits - Walsh, Butters, Smith, Cripps, Hewett and Lord running through the midfield with Moir, Williams & Motlop (possibly E Hollands) rotating through from the forward line - I just can't see Cerra fitting in (despite our 5 years contract extension)
Fourth - if Butters leaves next year Port will be in a similar position to us with TDK - getting screwed over with a mid first round pick - so if we were able to offer them our TDK compensation, our Silvagni compensation - McGovern who does help fill a need down back (and I would even throw in Cerra if possible) - they might be tempted

Maybe the core group is the problem. I mean the current core group has delivered one PF since the 2015 draft haul and subsequent drafts. But lets keep em cos they've got contracts.![]()
I've criticized him plenty this year. Maybe some not deserved, but IMO if you are deemed fit, you are expected to perform, so Injury doesn't cut it. The SC is as much to blame as Charlie I guess.I admit that I have criticized Charlie this season for his lack of effort.
I just wonder if not having a preseason, having minor surgery and not being 100% fit had anything to do with that.
Probably a bit of both.We dont need guns. we need a better team.
Have a look at his speech in the rooms after the game and you might get your answer. So since we still haven’t heard, does anyone think TDK is a chance to stay?
Yeah you're probably right, if he HAS made the decision to leave, there's not a lot we can do about it.I'm not kidding myself in any way. I'd love him to stay but the signs indicate he's gone. Isn't a bidding war what we want if he's made the decision to depart?
Yeah it's chicken and egg stuff though. Can't address the ball users if you're throwing big $$ trying to woo whomever you can, then you really have to nail them if you're spending the $$.Thats the issue though, he hasn't. We have been non competitive this season and miles off it.
A large part of that is because he hasn't done enough to address the lack of quality ball users we have on our list and our woeful small forward stocks. Same thing last year.
It's all well and good to build to future proof the list but its utterly ridiculous to do so while u have Cripps, Curnow, Mckay, Weitering, Walsh and others in their primes desperately in need of some complimentary role players by their side.
Probably why theres been murmurs of some of that group wanting to leave. Imagine being Curnow and Mckay and having to deal with the ball use they've received over the last few years while they watch Jeremy Cameron and others getting hit on the tit time after time every week by competent ball users.
Beautiful kick but body is made of tissue paper.Burton delisted at Port. Have always liked him since Hawks days. Could be a cheap get as some depth. Think a few on here were also previously interested in Dylan Williams who has been delisted as well.
Yeh the injury issues with Burton are a fair pointBeautiful kick but body is made of tissue paper.
Wouldn’t mind looking at Soldo as cheap ruck insurance though (assuming he leaves/is delisted).
Gulden would be the best case scenario. Exactly what we need. Like I said, I think it'll be very difficult, I can't even recall player for player trades atGulden would be the best case scenario. Exactly what we need. Like I said, I think it'll be very difficult, I can't even recall player for player trades at this level happening...
How would you like this hypothetical trade Fusion? 3 way trade Curnow to Swans, Warner to the Weagles and Harley Reid to the Blues ?
Time will tell I suppose...
Would you give your last pick away for Soldo? He wont be delisted as he's in contract but Port will take anything they get imo.Beautiful kick but body is made of tissue paper.

I'd be very careful about recruiting Finlayson. Its been 2 years now where his mind and heart aren't in the right place (for obvious reasons). His attitude and commitment has fallen off a cliff since his first couple years at PortFinlayson wouldn't be the worst depth pick up in the world considering he'd be cheap you'd think.
Similar in his inconsistencies to Gov, but much, much cheaper.
While your in here what’s happened to Burton?Would you give your last pick away for Soldo? He wont be delisted as he's in contract but Port will take anything they get imo.

That was my biggest concern with him, but obviously I'd hope the club did their due diligence checking in on him and seeing where he's at mentally.Would you give your last pick away for Soldo? He wont be delisted as he's in contract but Port will take anything they get imo.

Yeah the issue is you probably get his best once a year.... thats the problem Port hadThat was my biggest concern with him, but obviously I'd hope the club did their due diligence checking in on him and seeing where he's at mentally.
His best (as rare as it may be) is very tempting at his price. but with his situation it would be a risk no doubt.
His Mrs has already moved back into Melbourne from the looks of things so I'd expect Soldo will follow suitWould you give your last pick away for Soldo? He wont be delisted as he's in contract but Port will take anything they get imo.

Yeah but Port wont delist him given he's contracted. They won't ask for much tbf but no one is getting him for free, which was the point I was making. Give us the last pick you got and it'll be done imoHis Mrs has already moved back into Melbourne from the looks of things so I'd expect Soldo will follow suit
Why would he. The bloke is a 2 time ColemanWhich is why you play him in an accountable role and get him to learn it
