Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Sorry, I didn't ask for a full depth analysis of our midfield.I said earlier that Butters, if there is a chance there, we aught to go for him in a big way.
You'd still have Cripps and Hewett in the side. Cerra I would train a bit differently, slim him down and put him on a wing, a position where he was trending to be elite early in his career.
Cripps/Lord/Hewett with two of Butters, Walsh and rotating players Williams, Smith, Chesser and possibly Moir going through there is ideal.
There are times where we will go with two of Cripps, Lord and/or Hewett. Which is fine, we can go more defensive in those instances but we can't have the three in there. The better sides will belt us.
Lord and Ben Camporeale will hopefully come on and take over from Cripps and Hewett and be pretty good players. Both are your more inside players, not super quick, just inside grunt but for those types, they move ok. Walker will be another faster paced player to add into there in years to come.
Walker and Smith wont be primary onballers for a while, they will be players who rotate through there which is fine because they are talented enough to impact in multiple positions.
Our issue is with Walsh, he's the token quick player in there and opposition teams target him, block him out of it, so we need to have two fast paced weapons in there otherwise Walsh is just going to get hammered. Our setup has been structurally weak, we have just been targetting the wrong midfielders with our recruiting so we need to right this pretty quickle.
Ison is another name on our radar as an academy player, I think he could be a really good get. I would be happy if our midfield group in 5 or 7 years was Camporeale, Lord, Walsh, Butters, Smith, Ison and Walker. It's strong, it's quick, it's got great depth and it has players who can play in other positions.
Then there is our age demographic. Cripps and Hewett are about the same age. Walsh is a bit younger, same age as Butters. Then there is Camporeale, Lord, Walker and Smith all in that real young age so it gives us a few levels of age groups, makes managing the group easier.
The main issues with our midfield is lack of pace and agaility; the age demographic of it isn't eavenly spread out; our inability to have two fast paced weapons in there makes us easy to coach against; dificult for us to come out the front of a stoppage more often so we don't score enough easy goals from good forward running play; run and carry, two way run, run down ability of our onball group is as bad as it gets in the league. These are the fundamentals of breaking down opposition defences and zones as well as key defensive fundamentals which engage intercept defenders and fast rebound play; we also lack versatility and genuine rotations in there so midfielders who can also impact and play in other positions on the field is a weakness. I think with who we have and have coming in naturally solves some of it, but we are at our Lachie Neale and Patrick Dangerfield moment where we need to land a gun.
The turnaround that we want won't happen with taking a few young players in the draft and cheap players from other clubs. That will help but we need to do something drastic in the middle.
Conditional footballer that doesn’t do the team things.
nothing but i'd keep all three over more credentialled players. suspect all three are waiting until we see how many list spots are left after the trade/draft seasonAnyone have news on Flynn i liked him.
White and Charleson.

That's a bit rough...So exactly like Charlie?![]()
I haven't got a list, who is possibly available, that is the question.Sorry, I didn't ask for a full depth analysis of our midfield.
The question was ''who should be our realistic trade targets?'' and the only name you could come up with is Butters?!?!? If you keep banging on about Austin and co needing to be aggressive at the trade table to bolster our midfield, who are the names that we should target?
You're very easily convinced of things...Are you sh!tting me…!?
$500K is serious overpayment. WTF were we doing!
No wonder GW is bemused by our LM.
Here's a start for you.....I haven't got a list, who is possibly available, that is the question.
I’d be looking at throwing a deal at Worpel. Here's a start for you.....
AFL Out of Contract Players in 2025
List of AFL players coming out of contract at the end of 2025.www.footywire.com
All should be rookie placed depending on trade targets, Charleson most definitely…Anyone have news on Flynn i liked him.
White and Charleson.
Same/same, we already have similar.I’d be looking at throwing a deal at Worpel.
One paced mid who can’t kick, please noI’d be looking at throwing a deal at Worpel.

It becomes a numbers game. All should be rookie placed depending on trade targets, Charleson most definitely…

Nick DaicosHe is essentially the same player as Cerra, Lord and Hewett (and Campo) so I’m not sure he addresses a pressing need, that said I do believe he will probably be on the move as Ward has overtaken him. I also think MacKenzie will end up being a really good player for them too.
The Hawks are so smart the way they develop their players to play the way the coach wants them to. Players are made to earn their spot and play the way the coach wants them to play. Draft pick numbers mean nothing.
Geelong, Collingwood and Brisbane are also the same. These clubs develop their players well. Standards are set on what’s required to get a game and you play reserves until you meet that standard. Everyone is equal. Nobody is put on a pedestal.
We are so far behind these clubs it’s not funny. Players are out on a pedestal before they’ve earnt it…think Fev, Gibbs, Murphy, Weitering, Charlie, Walsh…and now Jagga and Cody who haven’t even played a game yet but are seen as messiahs.
The biggest change that needs to happen to the playing list at Carlton is mindset. Too often individual players become too powerful. It’s why I’m not concerned that TDK and SOS are gone nor if Charlie walks. The club needs to start acting like a club and not a platform for self promotion.

All three of those players you’ve mentioned work their arses off on the track and during game. They continually earn the respect of their teammates by the way they conduct themselves year in year out.Nick Daicos
Lachie Neale
Jeremy Cameron
And also not sure where Jagga and Cody have been treated as messiahs...?
They are each incredible players that get the attention from supporters they deserve. They get put on a pedestal because they are the best players for their team. Just like we see with Carlton and every other team in the competition. All three of those players you’ve mentioned work their arses off on the track and during game. They continually earn the respect of their teammates by the way they conduct themselves year in year out.
One weekend I went to a Geelong game the night after watching Carlton play. The difference in the amount of unrewarded/defensive running Cameron did as opposed to Curnow was stark.
Daicos has come into the league and literally dominated from day 1. In over 40 years of watching footy I cannot remember a player who has been more impactful in his first 4 seasons. He has probably been out on a pedestal but he has very much delivered on the expectation placed on him.
Neale was already a very good player before he went to Brisbane. He was so driven he became an ever better player at the Lions.
Aside from Cripps nobody at Carlton over the last 30 years has come close to those 3. You have to go back to the 1995 premiership team leaders Sticks, Braddles, Diesel and SOS. That is a very sorry indictment on our club.
You are the first and only person who have claimed Jagga and Cody as messiahs.
This whole messiah complex is getting boring.
The pies and lions were saying the same about the daicos boys and the Ashcroft boys, they were excited about the prospect of them coming to the club which is also the excitement of bringing in kids. That’s the future of any club. Jagga hasn’t played a game yet and Cody hasn’t even joined so who knows how or when they will make the senior team.Loads of people here have been saying “wait until we get Walker in 2 years”, “Jagga is gonna be a star” …these are 2 blokes who haven’t even played league football yet we are already pinning our future to them?!? What’s to say Jagga isn’t the next Dow? Why can’t our next great player be a Jai Neecombe diamond in the rough type that nobody saw coming because he just puts his head down and works?
Good clubs like Hawthorn and Geelong make the young players earn their reps. Ward played a shit load of reserves before he got his chance. They made him understand that being in the senior team was a honour not a right. They are doing the same with Mackenzie. I’ll be watching very carefully how we use Jagga next year and Cody the year after that. I really hope they are made to earn their spots and not just gifted league games from the get go.
Our next 'great' player was Walsh, who earned his stripes plenty and had one of the best starts to a career the leagues seen.Loads of people here have been saying “wait until we get Walker in 2 years”, “Jagga is gonna be a star” …these are 2 blokes who haven’t even played league football yet we are already pinning our future to them?!?
