Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
One thing Charlie is NOT is accountable.Which is why you play him in an accountable role and get him to learn it.
Taking the Silvagni name and Associated emotion out of the equation, You're kidding yourself if you think we could get a replacement defender as good as JSOS with the money hes being offered.Having watched the Doggies bottle a finals campaign today it's plain and simple, they need to up their offer to JSOS. Too many front runners in their back half. Hopefully it may increase our compo.
I'm much more confident in Austin than SOS but he's still made some serious mistakes building our list.
He's started correcting those by drafting runners and good ball users but the damage has been done over the last couple of years where we really should have been having a good crack at the flag.
Voss cops plenty of blame and is by no means perfect, but it's impossible to create a game plan when you're limited by poor users across the field.

He's worth more to us if he stays.
HOF is not JSOS yet.

Thats the issue though, he hasn't. We have been non competitive this season and miles off it.He hasn’t ’built out list’. The current list is SOS’s list with his tweaks.
We are seeing his list build (with FAR less draft capital than SOS) with O’Farrell, O’Keefe, Cowan, Wilson, Moir, Carroll, Dean, Campo Boys (who I don’t think will make it), O Hollands, Dean and soon (hopefully) Walker.
If he can keep this list competitive while he has future proofed it - we should build a bloody statue of him because I can’t go through another ‘66 game’ rebuild.
I'm not addressing the club.Fairly sure JSOS wants out and has enjoyed being wooed by other clubs.
The club has been great with his recovery, injuries, persisting with him when other club supporters only believed he was on the list for years because of his last name AND we have the same offer on the table others have.
He seemingly doesn’t want to be at the club anymore and we’ve been more than fair.
Next.
And we could have had Kozzie Pickett after the Papley trade fell over.......was there for the pickin'Thats irrelevant. If the list manager hasn't invested the appropriate currency into fixing an issue thats plagued us for years and years now then they're not doing their job right.
Look at how much a club like Brisbane or Adelaide have invested in their small + mid sized forwards and then look at ours. It's any wonder they've got the best forward lines in the comp.
The drafting of the last two years is not the issueI'm much more confident in Austin than SOS but he's still made some serious mistakes building our list.

3 of the five you mentioned are oft injured. Delivery would be better if they were in the side consistentlyThats the issue though, he hasn't. We have been non competitive this season and miles off it.
A large part of that is because he hasn't done enough to address the lack of quality ball users we have on our list and our woeful small forward stocks. Same thing last year.
It's all well and good to build to future proof the list but its utterly ridiculous to do so while u have Cripps, Curnow, Mckay, Weitering, Walsh and others in their primes desperately in need of some complimentary role players by their side.
Probably why theres been murmurs of some of that group wanting to leave. Imagine being Curnow and Mckay and having to deal with the ball use they've received over the last few years while they watch Jeremy Cameron and others getting hit on the tit time after time every week by competent ball users.
The drafting from 5-6 years ago is definitely the root of the problem, but its up to our current list manager to address those issues. Which he has spectacularly failed at doing so over the last 24 months. The drafting of the last two years is not the issue
It’s the drafting form five to 6 years ago that is causing us issues
lf Ben McKay & Josh Battle are some sort of benchmark, a 4year $700k deal should be end of 1st round.
Cumming got the Giants and end of 1st round compensation pick (Band 2) last year but that was a 6-year deal. McKay/Battle were on more money per year and had 6-year deals vs the 4-year deal for JSOS.
JSOS, McGovern and HOF played a combined 36 games for us this year, so we’re not losing three starting players from the backline. It’s two players who never play a full season, and a first year kid who should be back before the end of next season. With Jsos going, Hof out for 12 months and people wanting to jettison mcgov are you happy with our tall backs being weiters, young and an 18 year old Dean??? Interesting....
Hmmmm.
We will have to get a short term key option down back. If Kemp wasn’t coming back from an Achilles, we could possible gamble on going in a tall light, but he is no guarantee to have a seamless return. Would have loved to see Lemmey do some schooling down back to explore the option.JSOS, McGovern and HOF played a combined 36 games for us this year, so we’re not losing three starting players from the backline. You’re forgetting Nick Haynes, who will go around again for us, plus Nick Newman (plays a bit taller than his height) and Kemp could go back given the emergence of Moir.
We will likely bring in someone else (Khamis?) alongside Dean to help us cover the three of them. I’ll agree that it leaves us a bit shorter on depth, but we can bring in a mature rookie/SSP/mid season draftee if we need to.

Thinking the logic behind the JSOS “defection” is quite sound. Weitering is going nowhere, HOF has pretty much tied up a spot when fit again and Dean is very highly regarded. Significant chance JSOS back to a spare parts man in a year or two, which clearly he won’t want. Young is an option, but not without some “controversy”. McGovern doesn’t enter that mix as he cannot play as a key defender.
Surely we look at an ageing key defender around retirement age or a journeyman who vacancy hold down the role. The option would need to be quite athletic to offset Weiters mobility limitations. We may get lucky and have Dean up to speed early, but certainly cannot bankmon it. Upcoming delistings around the competition will be a close watch. Types like Sam Frost or Tom McDonald are ones to come to mind who could do the job and hopefully cost very little
I'm not kidding myself in any way. I'd love him to stay but the signs indicate he's gone. Isn't a bidding war what we want if he's made the decision to depart?Taking the Silvagni name and Associated emotion out of the equation, You're kidding yourself if you think we could get a replacement defender as good as JSOS with the money hes being offered.

Say the Zac Butters rumours are true and I hope they are. He'd complete our midfield and bring us into the modern age, should be a huge priority for us. A midfield group of Butters, Smith, Walsh, Cerra, Cripps, Hewett and Lord is extremely appealing to me and gives us the opportunity to play modern football.
How do we get him? Contracted for next season but is an RFA following that.
I would think Port would want something better than what they will get compensation wise. Our compensation pick for DeKoning will be higer than their pick for Butters. Has to be. So perhaps it involves ontrading the DeKoning compensation pick to them. I would imagine the DeKoning pick being quite high.
Silvagni could go, if it is Collingwood, their draft capital is as good as ours, first pick is 33. 33 in a good draft is a decent pick but reports say this draft is weak so we might want something next year. Pick 34 and Silvagni for Collingwood's future first? If the pies think they are top 4 again they might take it and will take it if they think Silvagni is important to them. As the ladder stands for both sides, it's only moving the pick a bit. It could help us with draft currency for Walker and could open up trading a future first if something comes up.
Just on Silvagni to Pies. Jeremy Howe is 35 and starting to get regular injuries. He's crucial to their setup and freeing up Moore. Silvagni steps straight into that role for them so yes, he would be very valuable to them and they may pay well for him. We know we have Dean and O'Farrell coming. Young can hold down the fort and McGovern is still in play so we can afford to make some moves here. 2026 I still see as a development year for Carlton and 2027 is the season I expect us to come roaring back into contention. Dean and O'Farrell should be cherry ripe by then.
Effectively trading TDK for Butters and getting a first but losing this years second for Silvagni and going into next year with two firsts? Is that possible?
We don't get to trade silvagni. What we get is based purely on what he's paid.Silvagni could go, if it is Collingwood, their draft capital is as good as ours, first pick is 33. 33 in a good draft is a decent pick but reports say this draft is weak so we might want something next year. Xerri at 72 is better (and we were rumoured to be interested).TDK I would argue a diamond in the rough at 30
